The Illinois chat boards are going overdrive and are in full melt down mode after the Illini blew a late 10 lead by being outscored 12-0 down the stretch. I feel bad for coach Weber as they are really lighting him up. The coach can't make the shots. They got a bad no call at the end when I think it was tied up, but they just couldn't get a decent shot off. They kind of reminded me of a team I know who sometimes can't get the offense going and plays very good defense..... :salukis:

I'm glad they lost. Can't stand Illinois and I never liked Weber.

I hope SIU takes care of business tonight as HC is a team that they should definately beat

I know I should like him ... I know he's a class guy, but in my heart I just don't. Rot in hell Illni.

If a team has made it all the way to the NCAA Tournament, and the players have a collective seizure at the first sight of a full-court press, then it's the coach's fault for never practicing against it.

If a team is experiencing a less-than-50% success rate at breaking said press, the worst thing you can possibly do is to ignore the potential for easy baskets that result from a successful break. If you care more about running the shot clock than working for an open shot, you don't deserve to win.

If your senior star can't handle the pressure of a 1-and-1 with the game on the line... well, if you'd done your job as a coach, he wouldn't be in that predicament.

Bottom line: Illinois played like crap for the last ten minutes, and deserved to lose. And Weber deserves every bit of heat that Illini Fan wants to throw... because he couldn't make the necessary adjustments.

I agree but having us kill the Illini would have been even sweeter!

I have to agree. I've always been a big backer of Weber, inspite of whatever recruiting deficiences he may have. But tonight either showed he's not as good of a coach as I thought, or he like the rest of the team had a very bad night himself. Either way, while I certainly don't hold him responsible for the missed free throws, as I always say, it should have never come down to them anyway.

As you said MSU, he could not make the adjustments when needed, and the team played like the proverbial "deer in headlights" when the Virginia Tech press was instituted. It's not like the players should have been illprepared for this. This is what you have video tape sessions for! That or the talent is so bad that no matter how hard he tried, Weber maybe could not prepare them for this. Anyway, one of many issues that need to be addressed in the very near future, or Weber might end up assisting for Lowery, if he's still around at SIU in the next few years!

Technically, they were from an intentional foul, rather than a 'T'. If it was a 'T', Illinois would have had somebody else shoot them.

LOL, he airballed the first one.

My mistake regarding his class. Seems like he's been playing for the Illini for about eight years now. :original:

Those intentional-foul shots (not a technical; the official clearly crossed his forearms, and the announcers didn't make the distinction) were indeed brutal. Especially the airball on the first one. But if the whole team was still playing to win at that point, instead of playing not to lose, those free throws wouldn't be as crucial.

I'm certainly no Illini fan by any stretch, so basically I could care less that they lost to VT. They had a big lead and totally blew it, end of story. (Just like our game against InSU in St. Louis :banghead: ) However, I admit I was kinda hoping for an Illinois win so we could all enjoy seeing the 'Dawgs wipe the floor with the Illini's a**es

But I guess we'll have to settle for them doing that to VT

My wife doesn't pay too much attention to college hoops outside of Creighton games...but every time she sees Weber on TV - she gets this disgusted look on her face and says "oh, there is that whiner coach". LOL

I hope Weber goes down in flames at Illinois.

Wow is right! The AD really sounds like an idiot, though.

I will say there was NO QUESTION the Illinois player was fouled in the last ten seconds. He was mauled as he shot that shot. Can't blame Weber for that.

And, the other thing that pisses me off in general ... when a team loses the way Illinois did, it is really easy to target the coach, to blame him for the loss. But, do you give him CREDIT for getting Illinois the lead in the first place?

Fans always have a double standard -- credit the players when things go well ... and blame the coach when they don't.

I think Weber's a nice guy ... I earned respect for him when his mother died and how he handled that entire situation....

What a hatchet job. This hack sits by Guenther at a tournament game and watches him play a fool, and then he uses that to set up a character assasination of Weber? Dorky? What a loser. I'll be avoiding any future "analysis" by this Doyel person.
