High ankle sprain.
He is limping today bad. It is highly unlikely you will see Mr.Shaw on the floor tomorrow.

Rumor is floating around salukitalk and the media hotel that he has been seen walking without crutches, and hobbling noticably. (holy cow those are two hard words to figure out) My thought is this. Why in the world is he not on crutches to keep as much weight off of it as possible? If there is a chance he plays, don't they want it to be as healed as possible? Here's hopin!

That's a tough loss if he can't go, but you have to feel good about the way that Boyle stepped up.
With or without "God" Shaw....good luck tomorrow!!

during the presser, Lowery sounded like he was in no rush to get Shaw back. And, more reluctant to even talk about the injury. Trying to make it a "no big deal" type of situation. The way he was talking... either Green or Clemmons will start in Shaw's place... And, he also said "if the game were today, Shaw would not play".

Hopefully they can get by without him. If they can win they'd need him next weekend against KU/UK. Moreso KU who can just keep throwing big men at you.

If he is restricted, I think they should hold him out. If they push him, they could lose him for the Kansas game. They will need him more in that game. SIU has to think they can beat Va Tech with or without him. As important as he is, and he was important in the first game, as frequently as SIU substitutes they can survive. The REAL test is if Falker cannot stay out of foul trouble and we have to play Green/Boyle/Foster at the same time for long stretches. Va Tech's bigs would really have a field day then.
However, SIU can still beat Va Tech. But, without Shaw's three-point ability to stretch defenses against Kansas, they will take Falker out of the game totally and put all the pressure on Tatum and Young (if young can control himself and stay on the court) to win the game. Tatum will try his hardest, but come up short.

What about using the defensive abiltiy of TGreen and the shooting ability of JBone? I think if we put it all together, His absence will be negated. Go Dawgs.

Matt Shaw will more than likely not play today, although nothing is broken, he bruised it pretty bad, even though the swelling has gone down, he still can't put all of his weight on it. He shot around a little bit last night, but nothing much. From what i have seen and heard, he won't be playing.

I am hoping for another stellar TB performance!

I sprained my ankle playing basketball in a college pickup game and it took weeks to get back to normal. I even had to have a cast for 3 weeks due to the severity of it. It's a VERY difficult injury to come back from quickly. Even if we were to make the final 4, he would still be hobbling more than likely.

Apparently the SIU trainer said today that it was NOT a high ankle strain as first feared but a regular one---he said that Shaw could-should be ready by Thursday's game
