Awesome win - I'd love to see Kansas-SIU, although I suspect we'll have some folks here rooting for Tubby.
Either way, your MVC brethren are proud. :salukis:

Congrats to the Salukis! Unfortunately I didn't get to see any of the game. The Shocker baseball game went 13 innings (Shox 3 Long Beach 2) and by the time I got home the SIU game was over. (Someone at the game said the SIU game wasn't on TV in Wichita anyway).

Haters are everywhere, but winning silences all - except for the aggressively ignorant.
The team that wins all the close games wins two in a row by 10+. It is a real credit to the quality of the valley that SIU has had an easier time with the ACC's 3rd place team than the Jays or the Braves.
SIU is a team built for the tournament, and even the loss of Shaw could not stop us - hopefully the week off will give him time to recuperate and we can come back strong in the SWEET 16!
A quick rundown:
Tatum showed up today after disappearing vs. HC. If Young and Tatum shoot like that for 4 straight games we could be hanging the national championship banner in the arena. Not saying it will happen (it is actually exceedingly unlikely), but I think that it is true that if we shoot 3's like that, we will be hard to beat by anyone.
Despite not scoring, Boyle did a credible job today. There was really no insider game for Vtech, and Boyle and Falker did it up right inside. With no backup - B/F shut down VT. I was afraid we'd see Acquah after Boyle picked up #4!
Saluki love to all - Carbondale comes strong!

Not only did you make it to the Sweet 16 but you did so convincingly. You just beat the 3rd place team in the ACC by 14 and for the 2nd time this year. Looks like you will face KU, was hoping Kentucky would win because I think you would have owned them. KU wont be easy but I think you can beat them. SIU will definately need a healthy Shaw though because KU will just send bodies at Falker. :salukis:

Digger Phelps, ESPN, on SIU against Kansas:
"The Salukis shoot a lot of three's. ... They are going to want to slow it down, probably play a lot of zone..."
More evidence that no one is paying any attention, even now that they are in the Sweet Sixteen. Apparently Digger has not watched a single Saluki game in the past decade!

Spent most of my afternoon at a 13-inning WSU win over Long Beach State, and due to that I missed the entire game. :helpsmilie:
I had to come out here and give a big shout out to SIU and its fans for helping to continue Valley-dating this league.
Not sure if the Jays would've been able to handle Memphis if they had gotten by Nevada, but that's a moot point. CU should be proud and happy of its accomplishments this season as well. But right now we need to celebrate the ugly dawgs and ugly-ball. It has certainly made a believer out of me.
A little bit of interesting irony for you all. As I was in the vehicle, on the way home from the baseball game, I was listening to KU-UK pregame, and that's where I heard about the SIU win today. During the regular season, hearing MVC scores on a Big XII radio network is generally unheard of.
Anyway, keep it rolling Salukis, bring KU and the Big XII to a screeching halt for all of us. :salukis: :salukis: :valley: :valley:

awesome game by the salukis without shaw.
KU is a tough matchup with their size down low. Shaw needs to get better in a hurry. Kansas puts a lot of pressure on guards, they like to force turnovers and run. I think SIU saw a little of that today from VT though and handled it pretty well. Kansas lost to teams the past couple seasons that broke the pressure and we able to knock down the open 3 point shots that resulted.
I picked SIU over KU here in my bracket and I sure hope I was correct. SIU really just gets on a teams nerves and frustrates you and wear you down. I think you could really see the frustration from some of those VT guys getting tired of all the pressure and contact. Hopefully :salukis: can get the pace where they want it and hit the outside shots like they did today.
If the :salukis: get by KU it will get real exciting. Beat a quality team like that and the sky is the limit.

You are going to have to play some insane defense to pull it off, but if anyone can...

Congrats SIU on the Sweet 16! You do the Valley proud! :salukis: :valley:
Kansas is one tough draw this year. I know SIU will play good D, but the KU D won't be all bad. I really worry SIU is going to have problems scoring. KU has shown some weakness this year (losing at home to ORU), but that was a long time ago. I really think that as Chalmers goes, KU goes. I don't know how focused teams have been on him, but that would probably be a great place to disrupt the KU offense.
It just seems like everyone is firing on all cylinders - and the KU bench is a sight to behold (unlike the SIU bench.) The only reason I didn't have KU making the final was because of the possibility of the UCLA matchup in California. I know KU will bring a boat load of fans, but it'll just be another home game for UCLA if it comes to that. We'll be rooting for SIU regardless.

I really dont understand Diggers comments. Was he saying that SIU should play zone? First of all has he seen an SIU game in the last 10 years? Second of all has he seen KU play in the tourney this year? Trust me, living in Kansas I am subjected to the whole entire 40 minutes of both KU games; even when they were up 50 on Niagra. The reason KU is kicking *** in the tourney so far is the because of how they are shooting the 3.
Congratulation!!!!! Your Salukis did the Valley proud. Keep it up.
