View Full Version : New Rules the NCAA should adopt for Maryland's sake.

I posted this on the Maryland chat board in response to all the crying going on about their losing to those "Cheaters" Butler.
New Rules the NCAA should adopt to keep Mid-Majors (and especially Butler) from cheating the beloved Terps and the rest of the BCS schools from their rightful Tournament victories.
* Change the height of the basket to 11 feet hight, since Maryland has taller players and better leapers.
* Make it a rule that only your 6th-8th leading scorers are allowed to shoot. Maryland is much deeper than Butler and that would have done the trick.
* Make a rule that the school that has more living alumni get to have one additional point added to their score for each 3000 of them. Another way to keep the Mid-Majors from "cheating" and "winning" games.
* Give 3 points for each slam dunk and only ONE point for each shot from 20' 6" and further away. The Mid-Majors rarely dunk.
* Let teams with the coach with the higher salary have 3 free throws instead of 2, even on fouls called on the floor. That should solve any free throw shooting woes.
* The team with the most total NCAA wins in their history should be awarded a victory in any game in which they score within 5 points of the other team. Like in boxing, a mid-major should have to win DECISIVELY, not just a close game. Like Butler's 3 point win was enough to really convince anyone that they deserved the win???
If only the NCAA wasn't sleeping on the job and instituted these rule BEFORE the tourney started. Then Butler wouldn't have been allowed to Cheat by running down the shot clock and making 3 point baskets. They should be forced to forfeit the game for cheating. Of course Maryland should never have been made to play a team so beneath them in the first place.

I honestly cant believe they think they 3 point line needs to be moved back to NBA range. Which shot takes more skill, the 3 pointer from 19'9" or the Dunk from 0'1"?

I gotta say though, studgunners, its kind of wussie to go there posing as an Illini fan. Even if you are an illini fan, the reason you went over there was not because you are an Illini fan, but rather a fan of the MVC/SIU.
But the post and the reactions are priceless.
edit: I should have read through the entire thread before I said that.
I'm an SIU grad and fan. I only have that name because I post on Illinitalk.
My bad, strike the rest from the record, Ill stick with "The Post and the Reactions are priceless."

I can make a three pointer, but I can't dunk.

Keep throwing in Len Bias references when applicable, I love it. A couple of Davidson fans got banned for it though.

Tennis, you need to rebut them for me now. I got banned from there today and even signed up a new account and was not approved. Carry on the Valley and SIU banner for me. I'm counting on you.
Point out that SIU produced Walt Frazier a top 50 all-time NBA player and they haven't. We also are 1-0 against them in our history, so we own them. Also, point out that they rely only on their Marginal basketball history and ONE lonely national championship, and you can point out that in the last 3 years, they have one NCAA appearance (1 win and 1 loss) and 2 NIT's, including last year's snuff out at the hands of Manhattan I believe. Also, only ONE 20 win season in the last 3. SIU has 3 Tourney bids, 3 tourney wins and a sweet 16 (and still alive) and 75+ wins. Maybe some of this will shut them up for a bit.

Studgunner,
Would love to help you out but after the kmartquette loss I posted on their Scout website, actually agreed with the original poster, and was subsequently banned from scout.com with no explanation. If you would like to rile the turtles up ask them if they are content that, according to the ncaa report about graduation rates, maryland graduates 13% of their student?/athlete bball players. kansas is not that far removed from them and osu's rate is a stunning 10%. These bcs institutions should be proud of their off court accomplishments.
Also, GO SIU!!!

Studdgunner - excellent proposals. I'm shocked that the NCAA, run by such highly educated and sophisticated "major conference" granduates have not come to realize the need for these critical changes. Perhaps they did, and like a father mentoring his son, they thought it be best we come to these conclusions on our own without the help of their years of experience and expertise.
These proposals should be immediately submitted in their entirety to all Maryland fans such that they can deliver them to the Supreme-Turtle Commander, Splinter (from the Ninja turtles), for approval. The situation is serious enough that we should even enact these new changes ex post facto and apply them retroactively to strip Butler from the record books given that they violated nearly every rule.
I propose we call these new amdendments: The Mid-Major Suppression and Reduction Act of 2007 (applied retroactively to any prior Mid-Major Tournament victories). Perhaps after these short-term emergency changes are made, Splinter can look at permanently eradicating all Mid-Majors from tournament or post-season play altogether and award all future NCAA titles to Maryland, or any team Maryland abdicates the Crown to thereafter.

Speaking of golf, last fall I played a round of golf down by Atlantic City with believe it or not.....Gary Williams' high school basketball coach. He was a nice guy and he said nice things about Williams. I'm sure he's a great fellow, but I still don't like that he trashed mid-majors to try to make his points. I suppose if the shoe were on the other foot, I'd like for my coach to stand up for my team, but there are other ways without being so disrespectful to other teams, coaches, fans, etc.
