Mid-Major Reduction Act of 2007
I propose an emergency session of the powers that be to enact the Mid-Major Reduction Act of 2007 (MMRA of 2007).
I'm shocked that the NCAA, run by such highly educated and sophiticated "major conference" graduates have not come to realize the need for the complete and total elimination of all "mid-major" institutions from post-season tournament play. However, perhaps they have realized and merely left us mere mortals to stumble upon the conclusion ourselves without the help of their years of experience - like a father mentoring his son.
Regardless of the motivations of the NCAA for not coming to this conclusion on its own, it is far past time for the MMRA of 2007 to be immediately submitted, in its entirety, to the Supreme-Turtle Commander, Splinter, leader of all Terrapins, and to the Supreme Council on Tortoises for immediate consideration and approval. The gravity of this situation is such it even warrants taking the extraordiary step of enacting these new laws ex post facto, applied therefore, to retroactively strip Butler and SIU from any and all NCAA tournament victorories in violation of the MMRA of 2007.
Passage of these short-term, emergency measures will not completely solve the problem. Splinter and the Supreme Council on Tortoises must also explore ways to permanently eliminate any competition from teams dubbed "mid-majors", as determined by CBS and the Council, from tournament or any other post-season play in which a "major" team is participating in. Future NCAA Championships should also hereinafter be awarded to Maryland, because they have been dubbed a "major" institution. In no event shall any Title, Championship, or otherwise, in any sport, whether it is officially recognized as a sport or not, pass to a non-major institution.
MID-MAJOR REDUCTION ACT OF 2007 (applied ex post facto to SIU and Butler)
Article I - Scope and Purpose
This law shall take effect immediately upon becoming law. The purpose of this Act is to eliminate any competition by Mid-Major Institutions in NCAA post-season play because it is not fair when they win.
Article II - Basket Height
Section 1: In any competitive event where a "major" institution is competing, all basketball goals shall be 11 feet in height.
Official Comment: Major institutions have taller players who are also better leapers. This section recognizes that difference and also recognizes it is not fair for a "major" school to get beat by a bunch of shorter players who cheat and shoot the basketball.
Article III - Scoring
Section 1: Only players determined to be the sixth through eighth leading scorers on the Team, as determined prior to tip-off, are allowed to shoot the basketball from outside the lane.
Official Comment: This section realizes that "major" institutions have much deeper benches than the "mid-major" schools.
Section 2: The school that has more living alumni automatically receives one additional point added to their score per each 3000 living alumni.
Official Comment: This section helps eliminates any possibility of a "mid-major" with fewer alumini, from cheating and winning games.
Section 3: Each slam dunk is worth three (3) points. A shot from beyond 20' 6" is only worth one (1) point.
Official Comment: This rule recognizes that shots from beyond 20' 6" are a high-percentage, relatively easy shots and should not be rewarded as such Slam dunks are far more impressive and much more technically difficult. Also, since the basket will be 11 feet, "mid-majors" will rarely dunk.
Article IV - Free Throws
Section 1: In any competition between two teams, the team who has the coach with the higher salary shall get three (3) free throws instead of traditional two (2), even for fouls called on the floor.
Official Comment: This section is intended to eliminate any free throw shooting problems "major" schools have. "Major" schools do not waste time on useless activities such as shooting.
Article V - Awarding Championships
Section 1: The team with the most total NCAA wins in their history should be awarded a victory in any game in which they score within 5 points of the other team.
Official Comment: Like in boxing, a mid-major should have to win DECISIVELY, not just a close game.
Section 2: In NO EVENT, shall a "mid-major" EVER be awarded an officially sanctioned NCAA Championship or Title in which a "major" school is a participant.
