Most regular season, road games?

The answer has to be either CU or SIU. I will guess ?. I don't know. Say SIU.

For just Valley games. Indiana State did, but kind of a misleading stat. For example, every other Valley team gets to factor an away game at CU into their average. CU's home average of 16,000 + is more than double what some other schools averaged at home, but of course they have no away games even close to that, the nearest being 10,000 + at WSU. Skews things a bit.

I think another factor is what games you have over breaks. It's hard when your best drawing teams are between Christmas and New Years (a team like SIU) that is kind of close. Not as many SIU fans come up, and student population is far below a normal game.

Fwiw,

Creighton:

Home: 14 games, Avg: 15909

Away: 13 games, Avg: 8558

Neutral: 6 games, Avg: 14660

I think I am a little confused, are you saying CU averaged 8558 people going to away games? That is insane. There may have been 20 at the SIU game. But maybe that is not what you are saying.

No, that is the whole attendance at the away game(s). Not the # of Creighton fans at every away game.

Gotcha, thanks!

I think it was confusing because in your post you list that as AVG attendance. Might have been better to put TOTAL on that one instead. But now that you explained it, it's no biggie.

His post made perfect sense to me....the numbers he listed were the average attendance at Creighton home games, the average attendance at Creighton road games, etc. That's the way it's always been listed on the MVC website.

Not sure I understand how a total would be clearer than an average....I guess I assumed the guy who started this thread was talking about average attendance to begin with.

I guess I am curious which team travels the best. Who buys the most tickets at other venues.

That would be interesting to know......but I'm not sure there's any way to break that down.

I can only speak from experience regarding Drake's home games.....the MVC team that brings the most fans to Drake is Creighton, followed by UNI. Of course, those are the two closest geographically as well. Bradley and Illinois State used to bring a lot of fans to Des Moines, but not recently.....I suppose it makes a big difference as to whether it's a week night or a weekend. I can't remember any other MVC teams bringing a lot of fans to Des Moines.

I think that's in large part due to the fact that Qwest is probably the closest Valley Road game WSU has, at around 5 hours. Many WSU fans want to travel to at least one away game a year, and Creighton is the easiest.

MSU might be a little closer, but not much. And it's all two-lane roads to get there from Wichita, which is kind of a deterrent.

Away, 13 games (not including neutral): 9,310

I don't have time to do the math, but I'd propose you determine it by the difference between the home team's average attendance and the number of fans at a particular game for each road game for a team.

For example, if there is an average attendance of 5,000 at Drake and the WSU game draws 7,500, WSU would have a plus 2,500 for that game. If the Ill. St. game at Drake draws 4,500, Ill. St. would have a -500 for that game. You could then figure the total plus or minus compared to the average attendance of the home team. In other words for WSU figure the plus or minus compared to the home team's average attendance for each of WSU's road games. You get a total over or under vs. the average attendance of the home team for all 9 of WSU's road games.

Of course, the problem is that WSU sells out so there is little room for an over or under when looking at other teams playing in Wichita. Games at WSU are pretty much a wash for all teams. Granted, weather conditions, school break, night of the week and other factors will have an impact. But, I think that will tell you which team drew the best on the road. It won't tell you who's fans travel the best, but how many extra fans a team draws to a raod game whether it be more of the home team's fans showing up or the road team's fans travelling to see a game (or as a result of ticket giveaways).

I think counting neutral sites is completely kosher too, since it still requires at least a little bit of travel.

As far as who travels the best in the Valley to the McLeod, this year it was SIU bringing a decent amount, with Creighton and extremely close second. Sadly Drake was one of the last, save for six guys who stood at the North Bleachers and had painted "DRAAKE" on their chest. They didn't use "DRAKE!" OR "DRAKE." or more appropriately: "DRAKE?"

I just realized I've been pretty mean to Drake lately. I'll try to tone it down.

On the TV broadcast, those guys got more face time than all the UNI fans put together.....and at times, were louder than the entire UNI fanbase there.

You'll have to pardon the UNI fanbase for being quiet after watching their team get p0wned by Drake. I'd be loud too.
