Wow, that is terrible news. Echocardiograms should be mandatory for athletes wanting to play college ball.

Guy was an outstanding young man that had more than basketball to look forward to. He was on his way to being successful at whatever he chose to do.

Prayers to his family and friends.

I was looking forward to the Guy Gal era at WSU. Awful.

This is terrible news indeed. Very tragic to hear of this. You never want to hear these things and it is truly awful when it happens. Since he was from Cameroon, I wonder if he knew or ever played with former Redbird and current Tulane guard Eric Vianney, who is also a Cameroon native. In any event, very tragic news.

Usually a standard EKG doesn't detect the heart defects that these athletes die from. Only expensive stress tests detect them. No school has the money to spend the money on testing every athlete. A very sad tragedy.

Condolences to all involved, it is always so tragic when one so young passes away so suddenly.

What a shame. Its too bad that the test required to detect this sort of a thing is so expensive. My prayers go out to shocker nation

I saw the same thing happen in a pickup game a few years back. A guy was playing, nothing out of the order, then he collapsed.
Condolences to the Ntang family and Shocker nation.

If a school can pay 3/4 of a million dollars per year for a coaches salary then they can pay for a stress/echo.

That is irrelevant because this kid was not even on campus yet.

Condolonces to the family and to Shocker Nation. There was a 2 or 3 year period when Indiana State had a couple of players have this happen. They are so young.

When the story was originally posted on the Wichita Eagle's website, it was murky as to whether or not Gregg Marshall was there at the time of the incident.

More has been added since then, including quotes from Guy's "family" in the United States, that tell us for sure that he was.

Imagine that. You've just signed on to coach at a new school, you're busily flying around the country in attempt to shore up the recruits who signed with the old coach, essentially meeting them and re-recruiting them all in one shot, and a player you've been talking to all afternoon--a player who just reaffirmed his commitment to play for your school--collapses on the court a few hours later as you watch from the stands.

It was reportedly the most devastating thing Marshall has ever seen.

So sad on so many different levels.

Absolutely tragic.

Reminds me of Hank Geathers of Loyola Marymount in the late 90s.

Not that it really matters, but have they confirmed the incident was due to heart related issues?

I haven't seen any official cause of death.

The description of the incident has all the markings of the "heart malfunction" type deaths that often occur in these instances, but nothing is definite yet.

The interesting thing about Guy is how much he put the STUDENT in student-athlete.

He got good grades, and the primary reason he wanted to come to WSU is because of the International Business program.

According to the players and everyone who spoke with him when he was here in town for Shocker Madness, he was about as great of a person as someone can be.

It was debatable how many minutes he would have gotten next year, but he sounded like the perfect type of player you'd want on your bench. Hard working, smart, and great to be around.

Sucks that good people have to die like this.

Sad week. First, the act of evil perpetrated on the VT campus, and now this. May God bless and keep the family of Guy as well as Shocker Nation and help them get through this tough, trying time. :shockers:
