According to St. Louis sports radio, 590 the Fan, Steve Soderberg was fired from SLU from what is said for his lack of quality recruiting...

Seems WAY too late to be firing a coach. Perfect way to throw your team in chaos.

Look for SLU to go after Coach Lowery hard with big bucks and a new arena that they will have for next year... He recruits St Louis area well and that a big boost in pay from SLU will be forthcoming.... :helpsmilie: :ermm:

And dont think that it cannot happen... Look at Turgeon at WSU after signing that extension last year and going to Tex a&m

Lowery isn't going to SLU...its career suicide. Yes the money COULD BE good, but the program sucks. While Money is always! A factor, there has to be something of substance behind the Money to at least carry some weight. SLU is a shambles of a program. Yes, nice new arena on the way, but that's about the only positive in that basketball program.

While I agree Lowery in the next year or 2 could still ship out to a different school for more money and an oppurtunity at higher success, SLU doesn't offer that oppurtunity, they just offer the money.

the biggest farce in this post is comparing SLU to Texas A&M...

And, ladies and gentlemen, that's why SLU is SLU and doesn't compete for anything. Blaming this on him is just ridiculous. Unless they're going to absolutely break the bank for someone, they aren't going to find a better coach right now than him. Then again, this may bring the Hinson-to-SLU thing into play since everyone seems to love him around here. If that happens, I'd take Soderberg in Springfield in a heartbeat.

An absolutely pathetic maneuver. This win at all costs stuff is out of control. Rendering the schools and sports we enjoy null and void on the morality scale.

Coach Soderberg (an average coach at best, slightly below average at worst) won 20 games last year with sophomores in his backcourt and solid kids all over his roster. What a farce. SLU.

It's Steven Soderberg the director of Erin Brockovich and the Ocean's 11 movies?

Here's the funny thing. Alford was recruiting a guard who was also being recruited by SLU. So if he got fired for bad recruiting, that means Alford....

What is there to appreciate? NIT trips? no, SLU doesnt appreciate that.. 20 win season (which doesnt mean jack in D1 these days) ? no, they dont appreciate that either.... It is nice to see a school that has standards of success and wont settle for 20 wins and an NIT

I believe Eddie Sutton will be the next SLU coach. Eddie said on the radio in Wichita last week that an athletic director had offered him a job, but it was at a school who hadn't gotten rid of their coach yet.

SLU wouldn't take Barry. In fact, none of the people who sing Barry's praises during the season would dare let him run their teams for real.

Exactly, we know he applied at ISU red and Evansville, they sure didnt want him.... I can't see anyone else wanting him either.

Ohh, good point. I forgot about that. This probably is the place he winds up - I don't think he will have any success, or be able to out recruit Lowrey for the St. Louis market (unless he cheats, which is possible I guess).

I am a little surprised at SLU if that does happen, however. The Catholic priests seemed to run a pretty tight ship there. To bring a drunk on board does not really seem their style. Soderburg was lauded because of his clean image, even if he could not recruit or coach. Guess, clean image is not enough these days.

Bernie Miklasz Post Dispatch column today is a thing of beauty. He lambasts President Biondi as a coward, dictator, and blowhard for going around the SLU AD Levick to fire Soderberg--and hiding afterwords:lol:

That article was nothing more than a hatchet job made up of anonymous sources and speculation. I don't know what sort of axe Bernie has to grind against SLU, but I don't see how he can ever be taken seriously again when he writes about the school.
