He's stout. I saw him play against Tyler JC this year. A beast, to say the least (no rhyme intended).

Much needed, congrats to the Shocks. About time something fell your way in April.

Gregg Marshall didn't count?

Still hasn't been a great April John. Marshall makes up for Turgeon. But with the tragic death of Guy, and the likely loss of Bowles. As well as the possible losses of Baker and Sampay. April hasn't looked too good. Hopefully we'll get some more good news in the next couple of weeks.

Congrats Shox.
The first Marshall signee. I know you guys were recruiting him for some time. Was GM recruiting him at WU also?

Not that I'm aware of. Marshall has recruited a couple of guys we're still in on in Sampay and Tristan Thompson. But I don't think Clemente was one.
I still am holding out some hope for Sampay.
He's going on a recruiting trip to Hawaii this week (weekend?), UConn is calling him up (but without a spot unless someone transfers away), but the reasons he verballed with us are still valid and still here.
Verbal, scratch your head a little, get a free trip to Hawaii to eat some pineapple, get a trip to Connecticut to eat some crab, then back to where you verballed.
He'll fit right in.

Wasn't WSU over the scholarship limit anyway? Someone would have to transfer or decommit.

We lost one due to the death of Guy Alang-Ntang.
Two players transferred out (Ryan Bradley, Chris Brown).
Signee Denzel Bowles is likely to go prep.
Signee Evann Baker is wavering.
Signee Graham Hatch is in the last year of his Mormon mission and difficult to contact.
As it stands right now we have 5 scholarships available and only one verifiably committed (Clemente).

Thoughts on WSU not releasing kids signed by the previous coach to NLOI's?
Sounds like Marshall is for it and the AD is not. Marshall is correct, the AD is not, IMO. Hope WSU changes their mind.

Let me try to address WSU's scholarship situation. It can get a bit confusing.
WSU has 8 returning scholarship players and 1 post-Turgeon LOI. The Turgeon LOI's have neither confirmed their LOI's nor asked for a release.
Expected recruiting class was Hatch, Ntang, Bowles, Baker, Sampay, Clemente. That was going to be one over.
The tragic situation with Ntang puts WSU back at the limit if the rest of the recruiting class stayed intact..
Hatch has no phone or e-mail address while on his Mormon mission.
Baker and Sampay are undecided after visits from Marshall.
Bowles is likely to 1) not qualify, 2) go prep, or 3) ask for a release.
Getting down to the scholarship limit is less likely to be a problem for Marshall than getting up to the limit.
Tirgeon told us back in March that the scholarship situation "would work itself out". He was correct and should be nominated for "Understatement Of The Year".
Schaus (AD) took a firm stance with LOI's, but that was basically "no releases until they talk to the new coach". I'm confident any recruits asking for a release will get one.

They should uggh. Sounds like Baker is the only kid the decision would apply to.

Marshall has been pretty busy contacting recruits, but mentioned in a radio interview that he's also been doing some recruiting work for the '08 class.
That prompted someone to go check the '08 recruits Marshall has been dealing with and ran into this guy. Not saying anything, just thought I'd share info about an "unusual" type of player.

I can't even read the words "big fella" without hearing Bill Raftery.:original:
Based on last year's roster, it would seem the following would be back for WSU (after deleting the seniors and 2 known transfers). Which 8 are the returning WSU scholarship players?
Gal Mekel
P. J. Couisnard
Lance Harris
Wendell Preadom
Phillip Thomasson
Derek Brown
Matt Braeuer
Arbry Butler
J. T. Durley
Sean Ogirri
David King

I don't fault WSU for not releasing players from NLOIs right away. I'd make them simmer for a couple of weeks and give the new coach at least a fighting chance to evaluate them and convince the ones he likes to stay before they are fair game for contact by other programs. Maybe you convince one or two that this is still the right place for them. If they still want out after that make sure you explain that you will be moving on and they aren't going to be asked back even if a better offer doesn't materialize. Let them decide whether they want to risk giving up the schollie with no bargains out there. If they still want out, then wish them luck and sign the papers.

What about the tendinitis? I hear that has been a big problem.

IMO with a coaching change any recruit who wants out should be granted immediate release. Otherwise I can understand a "simmering down" period.

Ultimately, players in this situation always get released, no matter what huffing and puffing ADs do (like K-State's)
Because if they don't release them, then the scholarship counts against the school and if the player sits a year, the school is SOL.

That's nothing. Check out this guy (http://scout.scout.com/a.z?s=225&p=8&c=1&nid=445374) who used to play for Iowa State. I use the word "play" loosely. More like "sit on the bench until the final seconds of a blowout." He bulked up even more after getting to ISU too.
Any player who wants out of their LOI will eventually be let out. Let's not be foolish.
At his press conference a week or so ago, AD Schaus said that it is WSU's policy to not let players out of their LOI's unless an extenuating circumstance precludes them from coming.
What he was really doing, however, is making it sound as prohibitive as possible to all the recruits so that they don't automatically assume the LOI will be easy to get out of and put WSU completely out of their thought process as they decide where it is they want to go.
Saying that you'll let them all out if they want it would be like a boss telling his employees "if you want a raise, all you have to do is ask." Next thing he'd know, every employee would be in his office asking for more money.
