View Full Version : WSU Cheating Again
ESPN reporting:
Cheerleaders from Wichita State University have lost their national title thanks to video showing a non-student taking part in their prize-winning performance.
The video from the NCA/NDA Collegiate Cheer and Dance Championship, held April 5-6 in Daytona Beach, Fla., contradicted assertions by Wichita State's cheerleading coach that the non-student had traveled with the squad but never participated in the competition.
"We determined with certainty that the individual in question did perform in both [the qualifying and final-round] performances," Cheryl Adams, Wichita State dean of students, said Thursday. "We did contact national authorities, and they responded by pronouncing WSU's cheer squad as disqualified."
The trophy in Cheer Division I now goes to Stephen F. Austin State University of Nacogdoches, Texas, which finished second in the competition.
News of the disqualification disappointed cheer squad member Scott Sample, a senior.
"They can't take those emotions away. I have the pictures to prove how excited I was when we won," he said. "They didn't take the national championship away from me; they took the trophy away from the school."

The cheerleaders are cheating again? Is it steroids this time? I thought they learned their lesson from the news last week.
WSU cheating again?
I agree it reflects poorly on the university (at least for those who actually know about it), but it's no Kevin Ross.
Awesome

After reading this, did anyone else get a picture in their mind of a man in his 60s rocking back and forth saying, "we were national champions...we were national champions..."

PORTLAND, Ore. — The FBI offered a $5,000 reward Tuesday for help finding whoever mailed dozens of threatening letters — including some containing a potentially harmful insecticide — complaining about TV coverage of college cheerleaders and professional female athletes.
The writer or writers complained that ESPN and ABC crews have exploited cheerleaders, WNBA players and WTA Tour players through certain camera angles, even though those angles were rarely shown on the air.
Hmmm...

Yeah, gotta watch out for those Creighton fans and athletes. They may be slow...but they can still be dangerous!!
Or we don't obsess about WSU like WSU does about CU - thus it takes a while longer before we stumble across news like this. And really, who reads the off-topic board?

If CU fan(s) don't obsess about WSU, then why in the hell was a topic about this WSU event created by a CU poster?

I don't see any obsessing, just some offseason smack. It's a perfect time for a cheerleading article to come to the forefront, nothing much going on right now. So, from an entertainment standpoint, it's actually a good thing it was posted twice, the first time, it didn't carry much traction, now it's starting to get going.
The whole thing is funny because it really doesn't reflect poorly on Wichita State, it's cheerleading for cripes sake! Nobody cares! Well except for that Richard Simmons wannabe Scott Sample, he cares! I looked, but cannot find ANY attendance figures for cheerleading events held at Wichita State, you guys aren't supportiung a winner? You need to work on your bandwagoning skills!
Cheerleading is one rung below band competitions. Well, seeing you don't see any fat claranet players in cheerleading, it might be a rung ahead. Still, short of someone being a major pervert, there is no reason to watch or care about cheerleading.
Congrats to Wichita State on your short-lived title. Too bad it ended almost as fast as it began; I'm sure they were already planning the tickertape parade. Now the entire sports world is condemning simply because of pom-pom gate.
Apparently you do.
You got me - I read it about every couple months. I guess I should have been more clear - who really keeps up to date on the non-topic board. Is that better?

We're all a bunch of geeks who post on an internet chat board about basketball, and its the OFF SEASON! We're all major perverts. If you're telling me you don't try to look up the cheer leaders skirt when you see a picture of one, you're lying.

Sure, but I hardly think cheerleading should be considered a sport or competitive. For lack of a better term, going to a cheerleading competition is gay. Sorry, I said it, now you can label me as a closed-minded homophobe. Once again, it's gay and the only people that care about cheerleading are the cheerleaders and their parents. Hell the cheerleader's boyfriends don't care, they just are glad they are getting a little bit more than stinkfinger from one of those hotties. Cheerleading is not a sport, band is not a sport, NASCAR and Texas Hold'em poker are not sports. Even under the guise of checking out hot chicks, you will never get me to a cheerleading competition. It's gay.
I think I broke a ValleyTalk record for the use of gay in a post! Is that gay or what?

Oh I have no problem with the smacky smack. This is the place to do it afterall. It's just the hypocritcal remarks of : "Or we don't obsess about WSU like WSU does about CU" could have been left out, considering he's kinda doing what he's complaining about..
The least he could have done though was to get it out there within the last three weeks of the story breaking..
