#22 ranked JUCO prospect signs with WSU.

Griskenas, a 6-foot-7, 220-pound forward, led his team to the NJCAA Championships in Hutchinson, Kan., where they went 1-2. He was also named NJCAA Region XVI Player of the Year as a member of the All-Region team and was a NJCAA All-Star.

Very, very nice pick-up. I know UE had their eyes on him. Should be a versatile player with explosiveness.

That's a great get, and says good things about GM recruiting. Has any other "mid-major" been more successful than WSU or BU or CU or MSU in getting these juco studs to commit? Seems like the Valley OWNS the juco top 50.

So, rumors a month ago that WSU was losing 7 players is true? How many new guys do yu have?!?!

Right now I think we're sitting at 3 new guys that we're pretty sure are coming. 2 definate.

Clemente and this guy will be here and Hatch (Mormon Mission) is expected to still be here.

Sampay is taking visits but most our still pretty confident he'll be a Shocker and we haven't heard anything about Evann Baker in a while so we don't know what's up with him. Bowles won't be here.

Right now we have 3 SRs gone to go along with FR Chris Brown (Central Arkansas) and Ryan Bradley (Newman)

One player who signed an LOI died.

Two of the players who signed LOI's under Turgeon are waivering.

One, Bowles, is almost certain not to come to WSU.

The other, Baker, is still deciding.

We've 5 openings for next season, with 3 seniors graduating and 2 players transfering out.

Griskenas and Clemente are the only ones we're 100% sure are coming.

We assume Graham Hatch is still coming, but he's on a Mormon mission and off the grid; no communication has been made with him for a while. But, for the sake of discussion, we'll include him.

So that's 3 players, leaving us 2 open spots.

Assuming we get one more JUCO and Baker, we'll be done.

I love how some people think that "losing" a bunch of players is automatically bad. Nearly half of that much-balleyhood number are departing(read GRADUATING WITH DEGREES) seniors.

Then consider the major upgrade taking place with those departures.

Then consider that the new coach took a program with 7 wins prior to his arrival and won 12 straight games in the guts of the Jan-Feb schedule in his first year enroute to a conference championship and an NCAA Tourney berth.

Here's some info about Gene Bess and Griskenas from a radio interview today:

Gene Bess is the winningest all-time coach in the juco ranks and has sent many players to D1 over the past 38 years.

He described Griskenas as a potent two-way offensive player, inside and out. Very intelligent and with no personal baggage.

WSU was his final visit. He previous visit was with Mark Fox at Nevada, which he liked very much. It came down to those two programs. He also visited a couple of other schools, none he mentioned were MVC schools. One of the two was St. Louis.

His school-selection process was described as very methodical and well-thought-out. Coach Bess does not encourage his players to sign early.

He's a good get. You'll be happy with him IMO.

MSU gave him some attention early, but stopped when they got Cooks. Griskenas is athletic, can post and go out on perimeter, and can finish with either hand.

I like him alot, and I'm not saying MSU stopping recruiting him, or taking another means they liked the other guy better. I'm saying MSU had a need for a perimeter player more than another slasher, wing type, which is what I feel his best position will be.

He's a player.

Sub, if you keep adding those lovely photos to your sig line, I'm going to start paying absolutely no attention to what you write at all. Of course part of that could be my "anxious" feeling from lack of :Jumpy: since Mrs. SB and I now have a three week old and we're still in the "hiatus" period.

As long as you enjoy some part of my post I'm happy. Even if that is only the sig line

That felony thing was probably mistaken identity. The Russian mob doesn't really exist. Course I would have retaliated too if some Russian schmuck hit me in the knee with a pipe...especially when I was trying to get a scholarship. Hopefully immigration doesn't read this board.

I would think that you and your wife could come up with a few variables to the traditional means of stress reduction, thus alleviating that anxious feeling. Then again, you're from the Bible Belt and I once took a date to see the blockbuster documentory about Kansas titled "Footloose." Forget I mentioned the variables.

I wouldn't mind getting variabled right now. She bought the book "Confessions Of A Naughty Mommy" so maybe there is hope!

Not that it matters but I just wanted to add that he made 1st team NJCAA all-american. Giving WSU to JUCO signees that were all-americans this year as Clemente made 3rd team.

It sure seems like Marshall has good luck recruiting foreign players, should be a good fit!

I thought that was "based" in Iowa?

According to this review (http://rogerebert.suntimes.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/19840101/REVIEWS/401010339/1023), it's never mentioned what state it takes place in.

I doubt it's Iowa.....the media here jumps all over anything with any connection to Iowa, however tenuous.....and I've never heard them mention Footloose as having any Iowa connections.

Only reason I ask I thought the club they went to in the movie was in chicago. Which of course isnt to far from many places in Iowa. I have friends that live out in DSM, Pella etc and they are always heading out that way.

I could be wrong havent seen the flick in forever long haha.

But I do see the Kansas being that way.

Ok this says whats its based on. Im thinking the characters in the movie were based in Iowa. As in thats where they say they lived. Hell Ice Harvest is based on Wichita .................... well screw it.

The movie was loosely based on events that took place in the tiny, rural Oklahoma farming community of Elmore City.
