I think it will make Valley teams recruit a different type of player. Most kids don't have the range for the longer trey. I think Drake is about to sign a guy with that type of range, Howie something.

won't be a problem for Holsinger from UE..his range is half court

That's not what his girlfriend told me.

It won't hurt SIU. They can't shoot the 3 anyway. In fact, it will probably help SIU. Fewer desperation 3's at the end of the shot clock going down. It can't really help teams that shoot a lot of 3's like Bradley.

I was going to say it might hurt SIU because they would have to extend out further to guard the perimeter, but after thinking a bit more, I realize they start hand checking you from the visitors locker room, so it really won't affect them much.

Nice.
It is a good point, but they really do pick up at 1/2 court, so I don't think it will change anything. I think it is just going to mean lower 3 point percentages in the near term. It is going to hurt SIU just like everyone else because maybe Shaw doesn't take/make as many three's. But, I think it will hurt guard oriented teams more. I think it will force them to drive and score or pass to the open man more. Some guards can do that in the Valley, but most can't. Most of our guards our 2 guards are straight up 3 point shooters that do not have the ability to drive consistently to the bucket.
Who has the guards that have the ability to consistently drive the lane and score ... BCS schools. This is a clear victory for them.

This won't effect shooters much at all. It will limit the big men who step out maybe. I never understood what the big deal was with moving it back. In HS, all of our shooters shot consistently from 1-2 feet behind the line anyway. And most of us weren't D1 talent

Just a committee recommendation at this point.

I thought you were a WSU fan. From that post, it would seem that you have spent most of your time watching the Little Lazy Flopper, Blake Ahearn.

I won't lie, I had Blake Ahearn in mind when I was writing that.

Well that wasn't hard to figure out. Never in the history of ValleyTalk, has anyone better described Ahearn's skillsets. Good job Aegyptus.

One foot is no big deal, most can still make it from 22 or 23ft with no problem! :bears:

My computer is not bringing up info about the 3 point line. How much further back will it be?

Most guards should be able to make the foot increase with little problems. It is the big men will have the difficulty. I am not sure how Shaw will do with the increase. I think his percentage will go down or at least make him think more about taking the shot then in the past. I think it is a good change. Players have grown and gotten stronger since 3 point line was put into effect. If a team shoots just 33% from 3's, that is equal to 50% from 2's. Some teams was shooting too high of a percent from 3's which does limit their game, but should not make any drastic effect to teams.

This is a great idea. I'm in agreement that maybe it will create some space on the floor. That's the thing I like about the NBA - There is spacing on the floor and the big men aren't throwing people around like they do in college.
I'm disappointed though that they didn't adopt the arch under the basket for block/charge calls. At lease they're making the block/charge a point of emphasis this year. They call way too many charges directly underneath the basket that are complete garbage.

It will be nice to see them just let them play in those situations. :bears:

I'm not sure what the NCAA rule is on the block/charge under the basket. I know in HS it doesn't matter where someone is located, if it's a block or charge 5 feet from the basket it's a block or charge under the basket.
Either way I hate the half circle thing. It just gives the official one more thing to worry about while trying to call what can be a very tough and quick call.

I just think they need to change whatever the rule is now and make it like the NBA rule. The arc makes it easier to call it because if the defender's heels are on the line at all it can't be a charge.

The worst thing college basketball could ever do is to become more like the NBA.

On some things yes, but the charge line is one of the few things the NBA got right.

I hate the line the NBA uses. It just gives the official one more thing to worry about on what many times is a bang bang play.
