Kevin Dillard 6'0" out of south suburban Chicago's Homewood-Flossmoor H.S. He sounds like the heir apparent to Bryan Mullins. On Salukitalk it was stated that he currently has a no star rating which I'm sure will mean that he will be a flop for us, right?

Actually, no stars normally means he hasn't yet been evaluated by the website. One star would be a concern. No stars doesn't mean anything.

Scout has him as a three star. In Lowery we trust.

I think this kid is pretty good...see his name a lot on the Illinois and Chicago prep sites. I was wondering if he's the offspring of Skip "Money" Dillard, a stud at Depaul back in my bro's playing days.

Why would one star be a concern? How many stars were Kyle Korver, Nate Funk, Randy Burns, Paul Miller, etc...? One star or five stars, they still have to prove it on the court and history has shown that these sites are off more than on with regards to their little "ratings".
Case in point: Jason Bennett was a 5 star recruit at K-State last year. And I don't know if any of you saw him play last year or not, but I doubt he could be very affective on alot of middle tier college basketball teams.

Skip Dillard was serving some serious prison time last I heard. link (http://query.nytimes.com/gst/fullpage.html?res=9B0DE4DA133FF936A1575AC0A9619482 60)
He had a brother named Quitman who was also a pretty good baller....I think he played at SLU.

They didn't call him "Money" for nothing I guess...Lordy...are Aguire and Cummings behind bars as well? I wasn't a fan of either one of them so it wouldn't bother me any of they were. I had Andy Pancratz as my 6th grade teacher way back in the day...he's a former Depaul baller...his sons were playing and/or play Div I hoops in the midwest.

One of Pancratz' kids played for Wisconsin-Milwaukee....I think the other might be at Northern Illinois. At least one of them played for Schaumburg's state championship team with Tony Young.

Most of those guys were no stars, ie, had not been evaluated. We also know that many kids get LOTS better after getting to college while some kids peak in high school.
On average, I would take a team full of 3, 4 & 5 star players and do much better than a team of diamond in the rough hopefuls.

Dillard isn't a diamond in the rough as much as he is small. Not quite 6'0 and a SLIGHTLY thicker build than Daniel Ruffin. He has put on very little weight in his high school days. He is a player.

Is it just me, or does anyone else really like the other names listed below SIU on the link above. If it was just this time, fine, but many other SIU recruits have those kind of names listed below SIU also in the last 2 years. Before, SIU was good, but we would get recruits with 1 BCS school interested and a bunch of mid range schools filling out the page. Now ... 12 BCS schools on that list, and some real heavy hitters too. Lowrey is certainly trying to earn his money.

Ya, that 25 is a pretty nice number; kind of sounds close to the number of wins per year over the last 6 or so..........:salukis:

I would state it another way: those heavy hitters are trying to recruit against SIU, not the other way around, like it used to be. After all, SIU is local, close to home and family. Assuming the recruit isn't starry-eyed by the ACC, Big East, or SEC, right now, going to SIU is no longer a backup option under the Illini, IU, Purdue, or Mizzou. It's becoming the primary option.
I saw Mizzou's Anderson hanging around the Mizzou hs 5A championship game--probably to see how solid Roundtree's verbal to SIU was. Let's hope it is as solid as it seemed then.

The good news in getting all these high-major recruits is knowing that at least some of them will pan out, while one or two may disappoint against their high school reputations. The more you recruit, the better your chances.
Right now, Roundtree, Bocot, Dillard, and Fay could probably play for most high-major schools. One or two will probably end up MVC POY, while the other one or two may not.
But let's not forget the others may sneak up, too, ala Randal Falker. No one is counting out Evans, Wood, Parrish, or Booker, either. Evans and Booker may have more upside than all of them.

I think all 4 will be POY in 2009!

How many all Americans has SIU recruited so far?
It seems like you will be wiping up the floor with KU.

I don't see it mention on the board but Dillard was named the MVP of the Bill Hensley Memorial Run ‘n Slam tournament over the weekend.

Kevin Dillard, PG, Mean Streets – The fresh Southern Illinois commitment was named the event’s most valuable player. Picking an MVP from a unit which seems to share the spotlight well was tough.

You did not see it because Saluki fans tend to be humble.

Dillard was Most Outstanding Player at the Spiece tourney in Indiana. He also held his own when his team defeated a team (SoCal All-Stars, I believe) who had the best pg in America, Brandon Jennings, who I've seen video of. This Jennings kid is a legit top pg of his class. Dillard almost had a double double in that game.
He scored over 25 points in several other games, so he can score as well as distribute. He's quick and has handles, and plays tenacious defense. In other words, he is a do-it-all pg, altho at 5'11", he is a bit undersized. If he can add some muscle without losing quickness, he will be a solid pg in the MVC.
Sorry I am not being a humble, but those are some facts and stats sprinkled in with the consensus opinion on him so far.

Rivals came out with an updated Top 150 today and Dillard is #148 - congrats to SIU. However, we all know that recruiting rankings mean nothing, right? :innocent:

My comment was more geared toward fans of teams that don't get Rivals Top 150 players who then bash kids on other MVC teams that are to make themselves fell better.
These same fans make a big deal out of their own Rivals Top 150 recruit until he leaves school due to sticky fingers and boinking teammate's girlfriends then they are labeled as *****ty players with bad attitudes that held the team back.
This was simply a made up example and not aimed at anyone in particular. :innocent:
PS - Maybe 148 is a lucky number, Dillard of SIU in 2008 and Walker of CU in 2007!

If the player fits the needs of the team, and he has the skills to help the team, thats all I look for. But, LJ, carry on with your star rating and Shocker obsession.

I think it is safe to say the SIU & CU will shoulder the load going forward for the MVC.
No brag, just fact.
