WSU named Dominic Okon as Director of Basketball Operations.
Okon has been coaching in America for 8 years. He was previously an assistant at 3 Rivers JuCo in Poplar Bluff, MO. He seems to be well-connected with Nigerian Youth basketball. A little research shows that there are a lot of tall guys in Nigeria.
Okon seems to be unusually well-connected to this guy: Ehimen Orukpe (http://rivalshoops.rivals.com/viewprospect.asp?Sport=2&pr_key=59227) who was rectuited by IlSt (Marshall hired a guy who helped recruit him at IlSt) and by Winthrop.
This could all be just coincidence, but Orupke has been granted a release from his LOI to Liberty. It seems there was a coaching change at Liberty too.
Orupke played on an elite Nigerian Youth Team and is reported to have good leaping skills and foot speed.
Nothing may come out of any of this, but it is interesting to have contact with an unsigned 7'0" guy who can run and jump at this stage of the recruiting battles.

Now that Sampay has a commit to IlSU (for those keeping score - that's 3 commits to WSU and 1 to IlSU, but the one to IlSU is the most recent), rumor is that WSU is in on another 7' Nigerian.
If Ejike Hart (6'9" JuCo) was going to sign, it was expected that would happen after his weekend visit, but it didn't.
It's an interesting off-season in Wichita. Marshall got a bit PO'd at Sampay cause Sampay kept telling Marshall he'd be at WSU - then told the media he was "considering his options".
I don't mean this as sour grapes or anything, but there's been enough media on the subject that Sampay either signed with WSU today or the offer was getting pulled. Marshall and Sampay didn't seem to be a good fit.
WSU may enter next season with no actual post player, but with 2 7' Fr candidaters for the spot.
It's an interesting off-season in Wichita. SIU fans could learn from this. If SIU has a year like a lot of SIU fans are predicting, SIU could be looking at the same thing about which recruits are still coming, which players are staying, how do we rebuild.

For the record, I think Marshall is completely justified in being upset with Sampay's indecisiveness. I bet in any other year, Marshall would have told Sampay to go to hell when Sampay refused to sign the LOI. I suspect it was only the fact that Marshall had so many available schollies that kept him in pursuit of Sampay.
