Too bad it couldn't have been Drake. How could the committee have taken Air Force instead of my Bulldogs?:noexpression:

Their only previous meeting was December 1989 in Las Vegas, which resulted in an 83-49 Hoya win.

I think this is an upset special here. I think UNI will take G'town.

I really like UNI's chances here. It seems the Panthers play better against non-conference teams due to their lack of knowledge on our team, players, and plays.

I am hoping for a huge Panther victory!:panthers:

Yeah but G-Town had somebody by the name of Alonzo Mourning. Hopefully we can pull this game out. After two years of 1 and done in the tourney, we have to win this year.:panthers: :Jumpy:

Good luck to the Panthers.
It looks like you are part of the new MVC-Big East Challenge.

I'm a huge fan Of Coach Mac. But the panthers did not play well done the stretch. Iowa job distraction? Depth is still a big issue for UNI. Stout & Coleman will need huge games against the Hoya's. :panthers:

You are very correct. I agree 100%. Reciently, UNI has not been doing that and at every game I have been screaming my lungs off at Mac to do it. Maybe he will realize that. I hope so.:Jumpy:

Georgetown isn't that good. The big guy in the middle has great footwork and is strong as an ox. But, he can be taken out of the game by playing zone or by running. Green is a good ball player. The rest of the team is average. They don't shoot very well. The move the ball well and play a variation of the Princeton offense so teams should play zone. I like UNI in an upset.

UNI will have their hands full with Georgetown's big men and wings.

Would be an upset if UNI wins. Maybe, if Benny gets hot, Stout & Coleman contain the big hoyas, Panthers could get a close one. Would definitely need to play a whole lot better than we've seen em the past few games.

Anyone have any clue about the depth of Georgetown? I'd look it up, but I'm lazy and about to fall asleep on my keyboard.

I saw Georgetown play Illinois.

I think if UNI can be patient and run their offense. Play their D and not give up too many back cuts. The panthers will win.

The Hoyas present a very winnable game for UNI. This is a good first round matchup for the Panthers. It is also important to note that UNI's lack of depth should be of little importance in this game, as the team has had two weeks off. Giving McDermott two weeks to get things fixed is an eternity. Not to mention that he will have 5 days to prepare for a single game. When/if the Panthers get past this one, OSU is another good potential matchup. Dials plays a lot like the big from LSU that the Panthers shut down earlier in the season, and a team that relies on 3's is always prime to be knocked off. The fact that the game is in Ohio makes things a little trickier though...:panthers:

I think Coleman needs to get lots of looks inside. I think he can wreak havoc on them. If they collapse on him, hopefully a UNI guard or two will be open for a 3.

Eh, GTown scares me. They have size and talent. We will have to be playing our A game to win.

A day ago Bilas was dogging UNI and asking how they get in over Michigan. Now he labels us the "giant killer" and suggests we may be the most likely "cinderella" in our bracket. :confused1: :confused1:

G-town is like 20 miles from me and I haven't seen them play once on tv this year. Wish I had the low down for them like I did for George Mason...in hindsight my low down on GMU didn't help the Shockers that much so maybe my lack of input here is gonna spur the Panthers to victory.

I can only hope as I HATE THE BIG LEAST!!!!!

I'm a Georgetown alumnus so as much as it pains me to root against a MVC team I'm going to have to go for the Hoyas in this one. Here's a bi tof scouting report on Gtown:
---All teams have god days and bad days, but it seems to be especially true for Georgetown. Remember, these guys beat Duke, but also lost to South Floorida (USF's only Big East win of the year). If things are clicking, Gtown could win this game by 20. If not, UNI could win by 10.

---Georgetown is a very big team.
Our center, Roy Hibbert, is 7-2. He's not as strong as he needs to be, and is still a little tentative inside, but he is much improved over last year and is capable of taking over the game if he wants to. Why he doesn't always want to is a perennial question for Hoya fans.
Power forward is Jeff Green. This guy is good. He's 6-9, strong, and can bang inside, but he's also a dangerous outside shooter. Our offense has a big man at the top of the key quite a bit looking for cutters, so if it's Green out there you can't sag off him or he'll be happy to shoot. Good shot blocker too, as is Hibbert.
Small forward is Brandon Bowman. 6-8, easily the most athletic player on the team. Also a dangerous outside shooter, but enjoys driving towards the basket. ALWAYS hooks his arm around his defender to get by and NEVER gets called for it. Very good player who thinks he's even better than he is. Tries to do tooo much and can be overly show-offish (in one game we were up 4 at the end of the game and Bowman inexplicably tried to block a 3pt attempt--got a foul and the ball went in--fortunately we won in ot but COME ON!)
Shooting guard is Ashanti Cook. Good shooter, can drive to the basket well, but can also just disappear for long stretches.
Point guard is Jonathan Wallace. Had committed to play for JT III at Princeton, but came to Georgetown when coach got the job. Reliable, good defender, decent shooter.
Key reserve is Darrell Owens. 6-6 wing, mainly an outside shooting threat.
That's really everyone who plays serious minutes. There are several other reserves who get a few minutes a game but not enough to make a meaningful contribution. Beacuse of the slow pace of the game in the princeton-style offense, guys don't get winded as much and there aren't as many possessions so not as many fouls. Hence depth is not as big a problem as you would think. If Hibbert or Green get in foul trouble though, things can come apart pretty quickly.

--I don't know what the statistics are but it always seems like we have trouble rebounding. This seems odd for such a big and athletic team, but it's a consequence of the offense. We take quite a few 3 pointers, and as I said, the center is often at the top of the key. It's not unusual ot have noone within 10 feet of the basket when a shot is taken. I don't think it's actually supposed to work like that, but it does. So if a team can prevent the ball from getting inside and force a 3, defense rebounds are usually very easy to get. For some reason we can't rebound on the other end either. I don't know why that is.

This should be an interesting game. As I said, I have to pull for the Hoyas, but I hope for an impressive showing from UNI and if they pull it out I won't be too upset.

UNI, IMO, got an awful draw. Georgetown is the exact kind of team that should find a lot of success in the NCAAs, because they play a weird kind of offense that is difficult to face for the first time, and they'll be vitalized by the chance to play against a team that hasn't seen their stuff over and over again like the other Big East teams. It could be ugly.

To be fair, the Georgetown offense is not identical to the infamous "Princeton offense." That is, it's a version of it that's modified to take advantage of the athletes at Gtown that were not at Princeton. Teams still need to be aware of the back-door cuts and all that, but the offense isn't quite as gimmicky as it was at Princeton. A agree that Georgetown's a dangerous team and could go deep into the tourney, but I think it will be ebcause fof tehir athleticism rather than the novelty of their system.

Do any of the Panther fans know details about the pre-game party? I'm a Shocker alumnus in Dayton and would love to show-up and give my support. I've been watching the offical website and it keeps saying "Information coming soon" for the pre-game party. Well, the game's tomorrow and still no information. Thanks in advance.
