I just got done watching the Cornell/Duke national semifinals game, and it was about a billion times more interesting than any baseball game could hope to be. Do any Valley schools play it?

I doubt it. maybe one has a club team or something. But its mainly just an East coast thing, I know Notre Dame has one, but thats as far west as I have heard of.. I agree with you, it is pretty entertaining to watch.

I think Butler fields a varsity team. (I know, not a Valley school...but in the same geographic area.)

The prospect of bringing lacrosse to Valley schools is intriguing -- especially for those schools without football.

Adding lacrosse could give many Valley schools an entry into some east coast markets. High school lacrosse players tend to come from upper middle class to upper class families. That could generate some booster dollars for the athletic fund.

The only obstacle would be the need for a concentrated number of schools in the same geographic area to field the sport. It would be senseless to have to travel to the east coast repeatedly to play games.

In addition to lacrosse, it would be sensible to bring on women's field hockey at the same time. Same demographic, same benefits.

(I wish Jim Brown would do a little more to promote college lacrosse.)

MSU has been playing women's field hockey for a while now, and they're actually a member of the MAC in that sport--their schedule includes Central Michigan, Miami (OH), Ball State, and the like. It has a lot in common with lacrosse that would seem to make it a good choice for a sport--low overhead, played on allocated space (football field)...and it has a future, unlike some other sports on the way down.

Butler does have Lacrosse. The Sycamores used to have women's field hockey but it got the ax a while back. I think that Lacrosse is coast to coast now. The good teams are on the East Coast. I have wondered about adding the sport also. I think that in pro lacrosse Denver has a team and built them a stadium also. May have to check on that one though.

It's time for the Valley and the Gateway to take the lead in setting the agenda for 21st-century athletics.

Out: Football, baseball, softball
In: Men's/women's lacrosse, women's field hockey, men's ice hockey

Existing football stadia can be converted to soccer/lacrosse/field hockey dimensions. Eliminating the most expensive sport frees up significant athletic dollars to plow into the rest of the program. And if it's a conference-wide decision, no individual athletic director has to take the heat from his neanderthal boosters. And eliminating football has the added benefit of completely silencing the Title IX crowd.

Field hockey is god awful to watch. Frankly, I don't know how Euorpean men can stand to play that abomination of a sport. I swear there's a rule that if the whistle hasn't blown in the last twenty seconds, the ref has to blow it just for the hell of it.

Field hockey, along with women's lacrosse which bears no resemblance to men's lacrosse, should both just be called freeze tag with sticks.

If you think field hockey in that regard is bad, try watching water polo. I understand how hard it is to play, but it may be harder to watch. And in that sport, they blow the whistle every *five* seconds. Maybe they should give water polo players arm floaties and lacrosse sticks.

I really enjoy watching Lacrosse and think it would be cool if the Valley got involved in it. Long shot, but it'd still be kinda nice.

European handball is very popular there. It is a good game to watch (e.g. basketball and soccer combined). It is played by men and women.

Handball? Does that have anything to do with masturbation?

Mo: That's a great picture of you. (You might want to brush your teeth once or twice per year so you can show off your great smile in your photo.)

Which photo? The Wichita hooker in my post, or my avatar showing a bloody Bobby the Brain Heenan? If you are referring to the Wichita hooker, I need to thank T-95 in Wichita for broadcasting that the Wichita police department posts mugshots of all the prostitutes that they arrest. If you are referring to Bobby the Brain, I only am using him because I can't find any of Classy Freddy Blassie. Maybe I should settle for the King of the Ring, Jerry Lawlor.
