In a show of solidarity for the Valley, no team should not participate in the bracket buster next year if certain demands are not met
1. We need someone from the Valley back on the selection committee. This screw job wouldn't have happened if Elgin was still on it.
2. MSU hosts at least the first two rounds and gets Maryland in the 2nd round.
3. CU hosts the first two rounds as well
The point of the bracket buster is to help teams. Our teams win and they get left out for...Air Force and Utah State?

I think the Bracket Buster contracts for next year are already signed. I think most of the Valley believes both MSU and Creighton deserved to be in. I hope someone with a sense of humor at the NCAA does send Maryland to visit one of our schools. That would be priceless.

Why don't we put a rep from each conference on the committee?
It is a 10 person committee.
There are 34 (?) conferences.
This committee had 7 of 10 members from non-BCS schools.
Having Elgin on the committee does not make it better. In fact, some would say that he would not be able to lobby as hard or he would be viewed as a "homer."

I agree with you. Now that the regular season is over we need to pull together for the Valley teams as a whole because it will only (hopefully) bring more respect for our conference. I still think MoSt and Creighton should have gotten in. Air Force? Still don't get that one but maybe I wasn't paying enough attention during the regular season.

Every team wears a valley patch on their uniforms, the confrence should pay for new bigger ones and instead of pointing at their team name should point at the valley logo when they win in the opening round

If Bill Rowe had any sense (and history has made it clear that he doesn't), he'd pull MSU out of the tourney regardless of what Elgin says. MSU needs more games against name schools, and the BB is thus a complete waste of one game. We can't waste ANY more games from here on out. Tell the Bracket Buster to go spit. MSU doesn't need to boost the RPI of any other mid-major. They can do their own scheduling.

Having Elgin on the committee was NOT a waste of time. I think he was on there in 2002-2003, and while he had to be out of the room when specific discussions about a Valley school came up, I think we got three bids in each of his two years.
And, Elgin learned what the process is all about and has been able to impart some of that wisdom to schools, who have bettered their schedules.
Of course, the events of today make RPI arguments uselsss but the point is Elgin has been there and did help the Valley.

Clearly, they can't. UWM was the second-best team on the Bears' nonconference schedule.
A better idea would be to let someone outside of the MSU athletic department do ALL the nonconference scheduling. Monkeys throwing darts should be able to do better than a home-and-home with Arkansas State.

They should. But we don't have monkeys throwing darts in the athletic department. Do you know where we could get any?

Seems like I read something earlier tonight about Doug Elgin being monkey-compatible...

I don't know how strictly they hold to this, but the rules for the committee do say that nobody is allowed to discuss or even vote for a team from a conference they represent, nor can they provide any information about such a team unless specifically asked. Still, it can't hurt to have him there I wouldn't think.

But you can't argue that it doesn't make a difference.
Both the WAC and the MWC had reps on the committee and the two biggest surprises included in the dance came from those two conferences.
I don't think it was a coincidence.
Also a PAC-10 rep was on the committee and again UCLA and CAL get much better seeds than they should have.
You can make a very good case for CAL not even being invited and yet they get a 7 seed.
Committee members are human and they do protect their own conferences, it is just human nature.

The committee chairman a month ago said he didn't pay much attention to the rpi.
I think it was obvious with their field of 65 that that was true.
It looks like this year, conferences got bids, not teams.
If you look at it that way, there was a certain amount of logic and fairness to what happened.
That is the only explanation that makes any sense.
