I hope all of our MVC fans that are in Central Illinois are all ok tonight.

I know Springfield got drilled lots of damage and some injuries.

I know alot of us are pissed about the selections but sometimes life show that maybe basketball is not all that important.

My thoughts and prayers are with you all.

EDIT: just came across that damage in Springfield Illinois is in the Millions. wow sad story

There are tornadoes around Springfield, MO too. They haven't gotten here yet, but are in northwest Arkansas and far southwest Missouri.

Expect another potentially rough day in the region tomorrow.

ok a somewhat funny tornado story.

There is a full sized grain Silo in the middle of Interstate 72. The SIlo is thought to have come from nearly 500 hards away.

There not sure if it was from a tornado though??????????

Not necessarily a tornado. Not sure of the technical term, but there are a type of downdrafts that can produce winds as strong as a tornado and cause extremely localized damage. We had one of those back in my hometown several years back a few block from my house, where an RV trailer was flipped, but no wind damage anywhere around it. Freaky and kinda cool.

Here's praying that all are safe.

Here in central Illinois, things are fine as of now in Redbird land, but we're not out of the storm watch yet. My thoughts and prayers to those in Springfield right now. Hopefully the injuries were only minor.

thank you tim.

It is getting worse however.

Confimed 19 injuries no conditions yet.

It is being called the worst disaster in Springfield ever x2.

Just said damage will go over 10 million.

Another storm on the way. this sucks.

A "microburst" is probably the term you're looking for.

"Rear-flank downdrafts" or RFD's can also pack strong winds. They are the backing winds that are being deflected by the back end of the storm.

I, too, hope everyone is safe. On a storm-chasing website I frequent there was also talk about Sadalia, MO taking a direct hit and a brief touch-down in Columbia, MO.

Springfield Illinois now under yet another tornado warning.

Sad thing is that there is no power to sound the sirens.

this is a nightmare.

Only 2 years after moving into our house, we had a tornado (known around Wichita as the Andover tornado) come within a ½-mile of our house on 4-26-91. WSU and Creighton were getting ready to play the first of a 4-game baseball series that night. I didn't get to the game.

Remarkably, our house and immediate neighborhood suffered no damage. A mile or two east of us, houses had garage door hinges ripped off and embedded in tree trunks. Cars had been picked up and dropped in swimming pools. Clothes littered the trees.

The grade school that my kids later attended was completely destroyed. Less than 3 weeks later, we had another near-miss, although this one didn't touch down or do near as much damage. I have a half-basement with ground level windows, and as my son and I looked out into the backyard, we watched the grass resting calmly one moment, and then it was whipping around wildly the next.

I have a high level of respect and fear for severe weather.

I remember last 4th of July weekend, I was actually in Kansas, on US 56 between Kinsley and Great Bend, and I got caught in a SERIOUS thunderstorm! I turned on the radio in my car and they were saying that there was tornadoes on the ground near La Crosse. I saw storm chasers out following the storm, and a couple of news vans presumably from the Wichita TV stations following the storm as well

When I got to Great Bend, the tornado sirens were going off and the sky was an eerie green, and the wind started to pick up big time. I made the decision to outrun the storm. I continued on US 56 to McPherson doing about 110 mph. I headed north on I35 to Salina, got on I70, and made it to Junction City for the night.

My girlfriend was with me and she was pi$$ed that I was so reckless, but if I would have hung around in Great Bend, things might have been different.
