Depaul, Xavier, and Drexel may be tough, but other than that your non-conference is fairly weak. Xavier was in the NCAA's last year, was Drexel??
Good luck to the Jays and win all those non-conference games.

Yeah, Drexel made it last year. We're young and inexperienced, yes, but I'll be the first to say that schedule is weak. We can not lose any games we should win.

Drexel did NOT make it to the tourny last season. ODU and VCU were the two reps from the CAA.

About what I expected, 4 cream puffs instead of the normal 2 and I don't know about Little Rock, sometimes they're decent, they could be considered a 5th.
With Drexel from the CAA, St Joe's and Xavier from the A-10 {Xavier is getting Top 25 mention in some places}, Nebraska from the Little XII {Top 50 per ESPN:doh:} and Depaul from the Big East plus road bracket buster, that's about as tough as DA wanted it for a team with 9 new guys.
I like 17 home games.
9 of first 11 at home is also good for a young team.

Not earthshattering, but not miserable either. Two BCS schools, two A10 schools, UALR (I'm not sure how good or bad they are expected to be) and some other easy W's to give the team some confidence.
Opening the season with Depaul scares me a little with all of our youth. Hopefully, the Canada trip gives them some sort of an edge.
Shox fans - I noticed the CU game in the dub is not scheduled for any TV. Is the game scheduled for local TV coverage in W that could be picked up and aired up here?

KWCH is the local affiliate that provides our local coverage to games. They picked up the game at home against CU last year and I would guess again this year. However, they usually don't release their broadcast schedule until the third or fourth week of November so it might be awhile before I can get back to you on that.

Pretty funny reactions here from the fans of the team with these games on the schedule:
THE Arkansas-Cream Puff RPI 240 {hey, better than UMKC's!!}
Maryland Baltimore County {what the hell is that?!} RPI 215
Texas-Arlington {I though they were D2!} RPI 255
UMKC {how the hell did the hapless Roos get a home game out of you?!} RPI 245
Marquee matchups:
Baylor RPI 141
UAB RPI 137
LSU 92
Wyoming 121
Appy State 63
Congrats on playing two games against Top 100 RPI schools.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++
CU's schedule kinda stinks but at least there are two top 50's, a top 100 and two teams that finished 1 and 4 spots behind the mighty WSU Shockers who were #100 last year:
Drexel 43
Xavier 32
Nebraska 104
Depaul 68
St Joe's 101

Don't mess with Appalachian State. Did you see what they did in the Big House?

A good question. WSU has an ongoing home and away with UMKC to improve exposure in the KC area, and hopefully improve recruiting in the area.

That excellent analysis is somewhat flawed. We know RPI's are bad, but using finishing RPI's of last year to make a point.. ?... that's just ugly. George Mason, Syracuse, and LSU had very impressive RPI's finishing out 2006 and we all saw how they tanked the following year.
LJ kindly left out the cuppy-wuppy's on CU's schedule this year..
Mississippi Valley State (Those dangerous delta devils)
Savannah State (Perennial bottom-feeders in the RPI, they've recently had a winless season, how is that possible?)
St. Joseph's (It's hardly the same St. Joe's of years past. Nice try though)
Houston Baptist (Is this a high school?)
North Carolina Central (WTF? These aren't made up right?)
Arkansas-Little Rock (Putting the Little in Little Rock for the last 5 years in Division 1)
My God. At least WSU didn't have to go not once, but twice into the pathetic waters of D-II, D-III, or whatever the hell league Houston Baptist and North Carolina Central are in.
Altman's quite the gambler this year indeed.. :ermm:

This is getting wearisome. LJ try to keep up....... or just shut up.
The game with Baylor is part of the tournament in the Virgin Islands.
Other potential opponents (RPI included) in this tourney are
Monmouth (259), Notre Dame (31), Charlotte (146), Georgia Tech (52), Illinois-Chicago (159)and Winthrop (70).
None of these schools were contacted directly by Wichita State. I hope this spells it out to you...he!!, even a miserable ambulance chaser like yourself should be able to understand what I just wrote.

Sorry WSUbballer, I have to side with LJ on this one.
It's September. Do you have a better way of comparing schedules, one that doesn't use FINAL RPI's of 2007?
I see no problem with doing that.
I do agree with the rest of your post regarding those cupcakes.
2 NON-DI schools? Come on Creighton. I don't care how young you are. That is getting out of hand. I know Illinois State had 2 on their schedule and Elgin told us 1 to many. Personally, I think no Valley schools should have any of these games on the schedule. 1 is okay, if it was a fill-in or a tourney, but that's it.

Well, not to defend the scheduling, but for the sake of accuracy, both Houston Baptist and North Carolina Central are Div 1 programs for 2007-8. It is the first year for both of them in D1 and they will be independents until they find a conference. Just barely D1, but D1 nonetheless. We didn't have a non-D1 school on our schedule last year and don't have one on the schedule this year.

DePaul is relatively young too. They lost their best 2 players. However, they have added two top 50 recruits, a center and guard. Burns is probably the best returning player. I think they will struggle this year. Probably a year or two away from being competive again.

i wouldnt not poo poo on wsu for playing umkc, even if there wasnt a good recruiting tool in going there, im sure theres plenty of alumni living in KC, and it's not like KC is overflowing with d1 schools for WSU to play, it's a good way for the alumni to catch a game that they may not get to otherwise, in fact...if wsu couldnt get 1 neutral game there a year for the KC alumni, I could make a justification for WSU to play them every year at KC
siu has that same way with chicago teams...last time we played u of I chicago we outnumbered them 3-1, and I have a feeling when we play northern illinois in dekalb next year it will be the same thing

Thats like saying it was ok for teams to go and play New Jersey Tech and Winston Salem last year. But you're right, someone has to play them, why not you.

UMKC sucks but exposure in KC area would be worth it. Heck I wish the Bears still played them for that reason but I think we should play a game in Kansas City and St. Louis each year.

I consider them "transitionals".
Do they count as a DI win ?
If they do, my bad. :noexpression:

Which probably makes it even worse. At least if they were DII they wouldn't effect their RPI. Win or lose they'll take a hit with those guys.
And trust me, WSU fans have already complained about UMBC and the Arkansas team from where ever. UMKC has already been explained and is a game that we accept no matter the effect on RPI. We need whatever KC exposure we can get. And there are a lot of Alumni up there. I believe the UMKC deal is 2 for 1.

So in reading the arguement over which team has a weak schedule, I'm still trying to figure out which team, the Shockers or the Bluejays, is the pot and which team is the kettle.

I believe the NCAA offers incentives for schools playing DI provisionals, as those schools have to play a minimum number of DI schools during their provisional status.
Florida Gulf Coast on Bradley's schedule has only been playing hoops for 5 years (the school itself is just starting its 10th year).
They have never had a losing season, last year reaching the NCAA DII Elite 8. They gave Butler fits in a late season game last year (granted Graves sat out with the flu).
So some of these schools aren't pushovers.

Winona State is D2, and they beat tww Valley teams early on last year. Drake was one, can't remember the other.

Maybe you are thinking of a previous year. I couldn't recall any MVC team playing them last year. Their schedule for 2006/2007 below, is from their site.
