Chris Roberts has chosen Bradley over Utah State and (oh god . . . here come all the "we didn't want him anyway" posts) Wichita State.

Word is he stirred up a ton of D-I interest but got his heart set on the WAC or the MVC.

Nothing spectacular, but a nice get for Les.

So, the kid wants to win but may not get picked up by the Big Boys, thus picks the Valley or WAC. Smart. At least you are getting an intelligent kid.

I suspect, due to timing, that when Clevin Hannah committed it made Roberts' choice easier. Obviously WSU wanted him or an offer wouldn't have been on the table and he would not have been given an official visit. But WSU fans learned a week or so ago that Hannah had all but committed. While Hannah is a PG and Roberts a SF, I don't think WSU could afford another player with guard size. WSU really needs a high school post player with the last scholarship. We can wait another year to recruit a SF.

FWIW, given a choice of Hannah and Roberts, WSU fans on ShockerNet preferred Hannah.

At any rate, congrats to the Braves on getting the commitment!

Well ... since Hannah is a true point and Roberts is a wing, I'm not sure that holds water.

And the fact that Hannah was preferred over Roberts by a bunch of ShockerNet posters who've never seen either of them play (or, for that matter, ever seen Greg Marshall coach a basketball game) is on the cheap side of worthless.

The kid liked BU better. Congrats to BU, hope he's a good one.

Here's the article about the commit in the paper this morning:

He may have like BU better. I don't really care. Royal was exactly right on how this worked out though. From everything we've read/heard Hannah was going to commit as soon as he visited. I think the Shox were looking at Roberts to be a SG. With Griskenas and Ellis both being large SF's it would have made no sense to bring in a small JR SF. With only one more 'ship left, it also wouldn't have made much since to take another gaurd when a big is definitely a need. Preferably a FR big. Bringing in 3 gaurds, and two of them being JUCO would have been a poor move. I'd bet that Marshall would have taken Roberts if he'd decided before Hannah. That wouldn't surprise me a bit. But Hannah more or less committed a week ago, if not longer.

The kid sounds like the kind of JUCO kid that commits to MVC schools. Tough to tell much from 9 ppg at a Texas juco.

He is athletic, long, etc. Again, fits the JUCO mold. Tough to say much more than that either way.

I agree that he's a wing guard. Playing in a crowded field with A.J. and, maybe, Toure Murry and Graham Hatch for two years is a rationale for not coming to WSU.

But it doesn't make sense to me that it was an either/or with Hannah.

Marshall needed a point guard. That's a specialized skill set. Signing 20 wing guards doesn't get you one point guard.

Also, concerning the scholly count: WSU may not be stopping at three new players. New coaches and old players don't always mesh. Stay tuned for spring.

Brocks....why flame WSU. Let them respond first. So far they have been very reasonable with their responses.

Lets just be happy for BU without taking shots at WSU.

He didn't say Hannah was better than Roberts (or vice versa). He just stated the general opinion on ShockerNet; he didn't say that opinion was right or wrong. Don't get your knickers in a wad.

Oh give me a break. You call that flaming? Flaming is going on endlessly about who's in the abyss, dissing fans from other schools, claiming your coacxh can't coach, etc. When a recruit picks one Valley school over another, it's PREDICTABLE that the loser of the contest will have fans claiming they didn't want him anyway (which may even be true . . . BU has lost recruits I didn't want anyway, and I've said as much).

I don't think I've said anything here that your average grown-up can't handle.

As far as Roberts, he is a typical Valley juco recruit. Jim Les has definitely shown an affinity for long athletic types. One of my fondest memories from BU over Kansas a year and a half ago was watching KU try to figure out how to pass over/around a roster full of 7-foot wingspans. It was hilarious.
