UE gets verbal from a kid many of us in Springfield liked, Olathe's Denver Holmes, a 6'4" shooting guard who played on the KC Pump and Run team that had a multitude of top level D-1 signings and has a couple more quality kids still unsigned. Had hoped he might end up a Bear, but we didn't have a scholy to offer being guard heavy already and holding on to the last one for another front court player. Excellent shooter with surprising athleticism, often hit big shots for AAU team despite the presence of bigger stars surrounding him.
Good get for the Aces.

On Paper, sounds a lot like the vanhoose kid,
guess you can always use another shooter, but
I hope we get some athletic 4/5 men
Anyone heard how practice is going? Any of the new guys standing out? How is Peter looking?

As I said in the team comparison thread, Garner and Lacy have been playing really well. PVT is still a work in progress and probably won't be much more than a body this season.

I know that Rick Majerus really liked this guy, which to me says a lot. Missouri State's interest says alot, as well. Marty offered a scholarship to him very early on.
I would agree with the earlier statement on PVT. Both he and House are two big bodies that will just sort of fill up space, and hopefully in time can become at least a defensive presense. I am believing that at some point that House, though he needs a lot of work, will pass PVT.
Let's see, now, if Marty can pull in a big guy. I know he is looking at some kids in Minnesota.

I think you have PVT underestimated, if you are right, the Aces are in for a long , long season
I think PVT has a lot of room to grow, but I think he will be a key contributor this year
He will have to be, and the surprise player of the year will probally be Gomez

I would agree, that Gomez may very well surprise this year. He got into Merfeld's doghouse and never got out of it. That said, realisticly, this is going to be a tough season for our Aces. We are not strong enough upfront to compete, partculary if Hopf redshirts. Give Marty a couple of years, and we will be right at the top. In the meantime I'll still be cheering them on, hoping that they will prove me wrong this year.:aces::aces::aces:

Have him underestimated based on what? You asked how practices were going so I'm not really sure what you are going on here that makes you think PVT will be a contributor. It's possible, but he isn't exactly showing it thus far.

I've heard the coaches were "encouraged" by his progress, will the Aces be anywhere we can watch them play/scrimmage prior to the 3rd?

Aces' Basketball Teams On Display Saturday
It's Basketball Season!
Come see the Aces on
Saturday at Roberts.
It's been months since Roberts Stadium has featured the sights and sounds of University of Evansville basketball, but you'll see on Saturday that the 2007-08 season isn't far away.
Marty Simmons' men's team and Tricia Cullop's women's team will be there for public practice sessions, to meet with their fans, and sign autographs.
It's called Meet The Aces, and the event takes place Saturday at Roberts Stadium from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. The men's practice session will be open for fans to watch from 11 until 11:45. From 11:45 until 12:20 all kids in the eighth grade and younger will be able to shoot baskets on the floor and take part in a clinic with players. Coach Simmons and Coach Cullop will introduce their players and everyone will be available for autographs. Then at approximately 12:20, women's practice begins and Roberts will remain open until 1:00.
Admission and parking are free. Posters and schedule cards will also be available free of charge, and staff members will be there to show fans which seats are available for season ticket purchases. Single game tickets will also go on sale Saturday.
This Saturday is just two weeks away from the first exhibition game for both squads. The women's team takes on Oakland City University at 5:00 on November 3, and the men play Oakland City at 7:05. The November 3 doubleheader is part of Homecoming weekend at the University of Evansville.
