Yeah. I can see WSU going 4-14 in basketball. You are talking about women's basketball. Right? As for men's basketball, I'm going to go WAY out on a limb and say (based on what I have seen from Gregg Marshall's coaching, the team's improvement so far and the talent available on the team) that WSU wins the conference title if Ehimen Orukpe gets here in time to play and actually plays.

Before everyone dumps on me (and feel free to do so), I have covered myself to some extent. (i) It's December 2 and no sign of Orukpe has appeared; if WSU does great without him, I can still claim credit for a good prediction. (ii) If Orukpe shows up and Marshall thinks the season is going into the dumps, he might redshirt Ehimen (and so I'm covered. )

WSU is starting to play "ugly defense" (ala SIU). The Shocks started out unable to score but this seems to be improving. So far, the Shocks seem to play very good zone defense. Ramon Clemente and J.T. Durley look like they will be good; the frontcourt problems for WSU that everyone talked about may not be a serious issue. I'm hedging my bets because Orukpe's height and rebounding might turn out to be the missing link. So far, Mantas Griskenas is not playing as well as I think he will. Of course, if Phillip Thomasson starts playing badly (like last year), this will hurt the team. The guard situation seems fine with PJ playing tough defense and Gal & Matt playing better defense (& offense). Aaron Ellis is still a question mark but he seems to have a lot of potential. Graham Hatch???

If WSU seems to have a weakness, it is a lack of proven depth at point guard. Matt Braeuer played 34 minutes versus Appalachian State, UIC and Monmouth and 37 minutes versus Baylor. (I can't find the box score for the Wyoming game.) The next serious test for WSU should be on Wed, Dec 19 when LSU comes here but there are 3 other games (Maryland Baltimore County, Texas Arlington & UMKC) which will hurt our RPI before the LSU game. By the Sat, Dec 29 game versus Drake at WSU, we will all have a better idea if WSU will do well or poorly this season.

I would think the next serious test would be against the two teams that come to town this week with a combined 13-1 record. I'm not saying they're world-beaters, but they don't appear to be the teams that many think they are. At this point in the season, these games are going to help our RPI.

As much as I would love to see Drake do this well sometime, how reliable is a source that can't even add correctly when doing their predictions? The predictions have Drake winning 16 and losing 2 in the conference; however, when the record is typed at the bottom it says 15-3. Nice job Mr. Pomeroy.

You might want to read the footnote at the bottom, which states

**Projected record is based on chances of winning, and therefore may not conform to the cumulative game-by-game predictions. This accounts for the unexpected results that will inevitably happen during the season.

I agree, looking over the games they've played so far I wouldn't be surprised if at least 1 of the 2 (TX Arlington or UMBC) come out of Koch with a win. Heck, this year those 2 teams might be better than LSU anyway!! I like our chances alot better against LSU than I do those 2.

if Ehimen Orukpe gets here in time to play and actually plays.

I don't know why anybody would think he's going get here in time and then be able to play. I'm sorry in this day and age this stuff doesn't happen overnight and that's what it would take at this late point.

WSU will be just lucky now to get him here for next year (I'm thinking there is going to be a third-party BCS under-the-table payout and he will be re-rerecruited and will attend a BCS school).

Hope I'm wrong on this, but that is what my gut is saying.

You just have to pick on the girl who hasn't commented in a long while.....I see how it is.

Thanks. I didn't see that part and was confused as to where they got their numbers.

Agreed.

I hate to be Mr. Negative, but I do a fair amount of work with the Dept. of Homeland Security (the successor to INS). Basically, if the application for a Visa has not been made w/ DHS yet (and according to the most recent story I saw, it has not), I don't see how it will be processed in time for EO to play prior to February. I hope I'm wrong here (or that the story indicating that the application has not yet been made is wrong), but DHS moves very, very slowly...and unfortunately no preference is given to students or student-athletes.

Another potential question is whether EO has passed the NCAA Clearinghouse yet. I posed this question on Shockernet and got no response. Does anybody know whether this has happened yet?

Drake's predicted record is about as likely to happen as WSU's predicted record.

This game prediction looks interesting. For some reason, this result would shock me a little.

Those predictions have WSU winning just 3 more games this season and losing to UMKC.

Wyoming losing every game the rest of the season.

Take another look at these in mid-January. Right now, they are as rediculous as the RPI.

Yep. Last season, at this point, they had Drake losing every game left on their schedule, and finishing something like 5-26. Not nearly enough data yet for these numbers to be accurate. But, later in the season, the numbers he provides are very accurate predictors.

Thats probably because nobody really knows (or those who do are not saying). If I recall correctly, Marshall said something to the effect that getting these scores starts the ball rolling - until that happens nothing can be done (but maybe I mis-heard).

I can honestly say that no one knows. All we know is that he has taken some exit exams and waiting for the results. Now unless these are the same thing then :shrugs:

I've given up on him coming this year. And as I stated earlier that the frontcourt isnt really a problem like it was last year. But to this point has been good but there is still alot of season left to be played.

WSU looked in charge in the second half to me. I guess it will have to be Texas Arlington that gets the win in Koch because UMBC didn't get it done. I had a great time at the game. I still say LSU is a key game, if only for the media attention.

I was actually more impressed with UMBC on paper than TX Arlington so I actually felt we would maybe lose tonight. Glad to see I was wrong :). LSU will be ok, but really probably won't gather a whole lot of attention as LSU isn't getting much attention as it is. But I agree, it'll look better with a win over them than UMBC or TX Arlington. I still don't feel they are very good, but will look ok on paper if the Shox should win.
