to get "his guys" or build a program "his way."
That was the excuse after everyone wanted to fire him after year number 2.
The other excuse was that no new coach would want to come in and coach somewhere with such a short leash.
Gosh, how much more time does it take? I'm pretty sure we have went through several generations of "his guys."
I'm pretty sure he has had the longest leash in history.

We finished 2nd and 3rd the last two years in the conference which makes is pretty hard to fire anyone especially after that coach didn't get fired when he finished 5th and 5th consecutive years. This year will tell everyone where our program stands...

Here is where it stands.
IF you are a high school player who dreams of ever playing in the ncaa's do not bother looking at missouri state since they have not been there in 9 years.
Counting this year because short of winning the valley tourney (impossible for barry) its not going to happen.

Look at the players we had the last two year. Head and shoulders above what we have now. Barry couldnt get it done with them and he wont get it done this year. I felt bad for him when Rowe gave him just the year. He is in a no win position.

The Valley was much tougher the last 2 years then it will be this year. On any given night, any team could of got knocked off last year. His talent may not be as good but the league talent is not as good either.

So it cancels each other out. Any given night this year a team will be able to get knocked off.

I don't blame Alford really, but Bill Rowe more so. Rowe botched the men's hiring after Alford left, then ran Cheryl Burnett off. He could have hired Mike Anderson, but when Buzz left us up a creek Rowe panicked and hired the first person who wanted the job who happened to be Barry. Great job, Bill.

It has taken Barry 9 years to finish 2nd and 3rd. That should tell you something about our program as well.

Doesn't matter...once the administration let things get to that point they would look stupid firing him. We finished 2nd his 1st year also and slipped to 7th his 2nd or 3rd year. When we finished 5th 3 years ago they should have fired him then if they were going to BUT you go from 5th to 2nd to 3rd and you look pretty dumb pulling the trigger then. This year if we regress to somewhere below 4th after being picked 3rd all bets are off.
smsandmsuson - I totally disagree we had more talent last year. If we can just shoot the ball well on the road we will be very tough match up for most teams in the Valley. People look at the Arkansas game and think we suck but they have won 30 in a row at home against non-conference opponents for a reason and we won't see 7', 6'10", and 6'10" on the floor at the same time in many Valley games. There were times yesterday when 6'8" Townes was covering Shane or Spencer. We will be fine...

Why would Rowe run off Carol Burnett?

How many time do you think we will shoot well at home or on the road? Im going to guess not many. Yeah, Blake's poor shooting cost us maybe 2 games each year. Shane's, Spencer's, Fury's, and heck, put Dale in there too, will cost us a lot more this year. No guarantee that Blake would have made any of the shots he took if he played Monday night but I would take my chances with him every single time over the ones I just mentioned.

We shot 41%, 37%, 54%, and 38% from three in our 4 wins
We shot 14% and 16% from three in our 2 losses
As I have said since this summer if we make some threes we will be very good because our frontline is the best we have had in a while.
I think we will always shoot pretty good at home and the way we shot the ball at Winthrop the 2nd half was encouraging. Currently we are the #1 team in the Valley in FG% at .469 and that is after some crappy road shooting performances.
FIELD GOAL PERCENTAGES
## Team G FG FGA Pct
---------------------------------------------
1. Missouri State...... 6 143 305 .469
2. Bradley............. 9 240 517 .464
3. Creighton........... 5 132 288 .458
4. Northern Iowa....... 7 157 343 .458
5. Illinois State...... 8 209 459 .455
6. Drake............... 6 169 373 .453
7. Wichita State....... 7 156 368 .424
8. Indiana State....... 7 161 381 .423
9. Southern Illinois... 5 106 253 .419
10.Evansville.......... 5 100 244 .410
Not having Blake's shooting is the only question mark this year because otherwise we are better or deeper at every position...IMO
