View Full Version : Who is Worthy for NBA Scouting?

"Besides the expectation of record crowds this weekend, the Valley will welcome a record number of NBA scouts in attendance. As of Tuesday, 32 scout credentials had been issued to 25 NBA teams, far and away the most for an MVC tournament."
Clearly O'Bryant, Summerville, and Moss will be considered. Who else deserves a serious look?

My guess is that the majority of these guys are looking at O'Bryant. I think there have been multiple scouts at just about every Bradley game this year checking out O'Bryant. The get the added bonus of seeing other players play, but most are looking at O'Bryant.

Paul Miller and Kyle Wilson deserve looks too. They both have the size and skillset to at least warrant a look.

I would say this would be a good weekend for a kid with aspirations to step it up a notch. I think Jacobsen will be getting some looks.

They are there to look at O'Bryant. There is no one else in the Valley who can play in the league. Not saying that our league does not have talented players but not talented enough to play with the cream of the crop.

I wonder if this will affect anybody's play. Sommerville has mentioned that he has pressed and tried to put on a good show for the scouts, but instead ended up going 3-13 shooting and impressing no one.

I'd say that 90% of them are there to see O'Bryant and Sommerville but I know the Spurs have been to Omaha to watch Tolliver so he's at least got some interest. If Livan Pyfrom can land a couple of 10 day contracts I think Tolliver, while not drafted, can certainly end up on the end of somebody's bench. In fact, I'd say of the two guys next year in CU's lineup that'll get looks it's Tolliver that has a better shot. He's athletic at 6'9" and has shown he can consistenly hit from 15' to 20' right now.
Once Moss returned from his injury there were several NBA scouts at the ISU games in Terre Haute to see him play. Terre Haute paper said six came to one game (vs. UNI maybe?) in Feb. to watch. With better players around him to lessen his defensive burden, Moss will shine.

Miller may get a look, I mean, if Greg Ostertag and Bryant Reeves can play some in the NBA.... :p
Mostly O'Bryant, though. Moss may get a look, too.

I would think they are looking for OBryant, Sommerville, Jacobson, Moss, Miller, and possibly Stout for next year. Thats what I would think they would be looking at during all of this. Remember a lot of teams also have NBA-Euro scouts too, and they could be there as well.

I hope you're kidding. Miller couldn't carry Ostertag or Big Country's jock.

At this point in time, I don't think there is any way that the NBA would be impressed with Jacobsen. I think Moss should make it, prolly in the second round, but then he will overachieve when he plays. O'Bryant is an agile, 7' shot blocker, it's just a matter of time when he becomes a first rounder. Sommerville won't really do much in the NBA, but I'll leave that one to the scouts.
I think they are actually there to see GodShawGod. :D

Other than Patrick O'Bryant, I'd say no one really. Tolliver has the potential at 6'9" but I think he still has to develop more in providing scoring punch and leadership IMO. I think that as the Valley moves up in stature, we'll be able to get recruits that have NBA athleticism, the key here is to be patient.

Ostertag & Reeves were shot blockers and could play a little defense....

The problem with tolliver is that his shot is not a jumpshot but a set shot. that works if you are open but it would not work in the nba. A 6'9 guy who has no jump shot really has no place in the nba...imo.

He does shoot a set shot when he shoots a three pointer but it's a jumper from there on in. I really don't know why he does the set shot from three when just a couple of steps in he shoots it differently. Maybe because he's got longer to line it up since he's not covered as closely, who knows.

Gosms(err.. msu)go,
You obviously have not watched Tolliver play. Yes he shoots a set shot from three-point range, but he has a sweet jumper from anywhere inside the line. Just ask WSU what they think of that 18 foot jumper he dropped on them in Omaha at the buzzer. He also has a pretty effective jump hook from about 8-10 feet in. Besides, NBA plays less defense than in college. After all, isn't that the only reason Korver is able to get his shots off?

I do like Tollivers 18 footer, but Brauers 3pt shot is that much sweeter:D

Mathies has to be getting some looks, he has a lot of talent. He will come in and work hard, he probably wouldn't get drafted but he could make a team or work his way up from the d-league. You have to give Tolliver a look, he is the most TALENTED big man in the MVC, he can do the most, he will put on some size, he will surprise you as well with his talent.

Bryant Reeves was a heck of a player who finished 3rd at OSU in scoring, took his team to the final 4, and actualy averaged over 16 points and 8 rebounds per game for a season or two in the NBA. His career was cut way too short by injury.
I'm guessing by the :p that you are half joking, but I did read on the old VT forum a few years back a fellow shocker fan, whose elevator probably didn't make it too the top floor, saying that Jason Perez could make it to the NBA because, "look at Steve Kerr"
That wouldn't have been you would it?

Tolliver is a very good player. I hope CU fans don't go in the "GodTolliverGod" direction but just enjoy his strong play this year and next year.
Moss' second-half performance vs. Drake is why he is being looked at.

Moss is very talented. His play tonight was awesome.

As long as they are there I imagine the pro scouts will take a look at Miller. Should Paul decide to continue playing basketball I doubt any of the NBA scouts would do anything to discourage him from playing in Europe.
Wilson is another situation. Never occurred to me that scouts might look at Wilson. 6'8" guy from the Valley who can hit from long-range isn't new territory. I don't want to make comparisons between Wilson and Korver.
In the very strange world that is the NBA, Wilson might project as a 2/3 who could post up.

Good catch, bberlain. Ahearn definitely has a shot. They don't play much D in the NBA.

WHAT! What are you high on? Brauer is a hard nosed ball player and I love the way he plays the game but he is not playing in the NBA.

I would guess all eyes are on Moss and O'Briant. But maybe their scouting me this weekend. I heard the Sonics were looking for a middle aged 6'2" fat white guy that can't jump or make a shot even when he's wide open.

6'9" may make you a "big man" in the mvc but not in the nba.
someone who is 6'9" and shoots a set shot 3 pointer in the nba? Really, I just dont see it.
If he was 6'11" maybe....
