Drake will bring a top 25 national ranking into Omaha for the first of two MVC battles. Less than 48 hours until tipoff.

Expect a crowd of 17000+ plus in Omaha and a raucous crowd - should be exciting.

Any Drake VT'ers coming into Omaha for the game?

Hey after that rough game against Ill. St. we need as much rest as we can get. How about under 72 hours until tip off. Should be a great game. But I not too confident about this the way Creighton is playing. How about a big snow storm to postpone for a few weeks?

Snow is supposed to start tomorrow night, but it won't be enough. Only Wichita gets the big snows.

I'm already excited for this one. Hopefully, CU can hit the threes the way they did tonight and bring home a win. Either way, the turnaround game in Des Moines is the following week. I-80 should be busy.

A thread right after the game? C'mon, can't we Drake fans have at least a day to savor this win?

The game is Tuesday, and that makes it less than 72 hours until tipoff. Drake is tired and beaten up in the backcourt without Young to take minutes, so they need those extra 24 hours.

I think I saw that Creighton has never beaten a top 25 team in the Qwest Center. Is that right?

I have tickets, but I am afraid they might be nosebleeds. I'm riding one of the Drake buses to the game, and am using whatever ticket they provide for me.

It is a heck of a deal: Bus ride both ways, ticket, and some food and beverages for $30.

Creighton is a young team, there is no question about that. However, to insinuate that they do not have any veteran leadership is inaccurate. Last time I checked, Watts/Bahe/Hibma/Dotzler are all seasoned veterans that are suiting up for Coach Altman's squad. If Drake wins, it will not be because of their experience as Mike suggested.

This was brought up in the Wichita Eagle a week ago. It's a big deal for teams to come into a hostile atmosphere of 10,000 + they're not used to and get a win.

As far as SIU goes, they have to learn to win a road game other than in Evansville first.

I'm feeling calm today and I expect to tomorrow . My meds are time released though and sometimes they run out too soon. Like around 8 p.m. One of three things can happen at that point. 1. The Bluejays have faced the Bluedogs more than any other team. You would think it would be a rivalry.

In my mind, it is.

One of my worst memories in following the Jays is being at a game in 92 against the Bulldogs with Rick Johnson manning the bench for the Jays and Rudy Washington coaching the Bulldogs. Mike Amos was the big Bluejay that year and we had a point guard named Jason Bey who could really turn it over..real good.

The Civic was famous for it's crappy lighting at the time. I sat in the nosebleeds, with pops and my cousin, who I had to drag to the game and struggled to see the players out on the floor.

There was a couch in one of the enzones where a lucky fan got to sit during each game and munch on Godfathers Pizza.

The Jays had a 7 point lead with 20 seconds left in the game.......and lost!!!!

Dana came to town, the Civic was fixed up and the rest was history. Rudy even beat Dana a few times initially before he left the Bulldogs.

Now the Bluedogs are ranked in the top 25 and 17,000 plus will show up in the well lighted Q, with no couches.

I was driving home from the bar last night after the game and a thought struck me and i wanted your take on this. Are CU and Drake fans disapointed that their teams seem to have plateaued somewhat over the last 3-4 years? No offense meant here as you two programs are really the two teams that showed all of the rest of us the way. But looking at results over the last several years makes me wonder how i would feel if i was a CU or Drake fan. Would i be happy just making the tournament year after year in drake's case with mixed success? Would i be happy if i was a CU fan and made the tournament some of the time and almost never left the first round?

I realize that WSU is new to the game as far as winning and running with the conference banner, but do the things Drake is doing right now make you wish that CU or Drake had advanced farther a few years back when they were clearly the "class of the valley?".

To put what i am saying in statistics rather than words here you go.

CU Postseason under Altman
NCAA tournament farthest advanced: 2nd round
NCAA tournament appearances: 6 in 13 years

Again im not trying to flame anyone here i am just curious if CUfan or Drake fan is satisfied with where their programs are at in relation to where they expected them to go/be 4-5 years ago when they were dominating the valley year in and year out. Also if the stagnant trend continued over the next 5-10 years (Making the NCAA tourney half the time and losing 1st round most of the time) would you continue to want Altman and Davis as your coach? I think i would be frustrated because you have had some excellent teams that have not advanced in the tournament as far as they maybe could have especially in CU's case.

One final disclaimer i am not trying to start any trouble on here i am honestly curious as to the average fan of these two teams feelings on the state of their programs right now as opposed to 4-5 years ago. You guys have been the class of the valley for a long time and continue to be right at the top.

MoValJohn .. I've acquired a taste for your BS but that was really a f'd up post. Ya DA prack.

Drake has a ton of respect for Creighton. Altman is a beyond what CU, or any Valley program could ever want in terms of a class act. He has made a mark on the MVC ... beyond any other coach, past or future. So I"m not interested in any smack with any Jay fans. They have a basketball team that has obviously "found" itself in the last couple weeks or so. I truely believe that for Drake to have any chance in this game, the Dogs will have to play their best game of the year and have a lucky bounce or two. They are Gods ... They are Creighton!

You know I had really good tickets, but I've decided not to go now because I'm so discouraged. All of those Blowjays are right. We have no chance. We're going to be ranked for a day and a half and won't be able to stand it. We'll come in all tight and shat and won't be able to shoot. Heck, we might as well call the game now. I think his post was just a little tongue in cheek reprise from one of the Shocker faithful during the early part of last season in which almost the exact same argument was put forth: backhanded compliments but the jist (not jizz) being that WSU had a more successful program based on one post season as compared to CU consistently making the tournament. After winning 5 straight, Jays now head to Carbondale and then back to Des Monies for a Drake rematch. If Dana doesn't figure out who the hell he's going to play (his lineups tonight made no sense at all), these next couple could be ugly.

Nice game tonight for Drake, but to quote Dennis Green or at least I think he said this "THey are who we thought they were, and we let 'em off the hook."

I am impressed with the way Drake managed to have the answer every time Creighton would get control. We will get you in Des Moines we would rather beat a top 20 team on the road rather then a top 25 team at home.

I was also impressed with the amount of people that traveled to Omaha on a Tuesday night even though a few in my section could not believe how high up in the Qwest they had to sit.

Anyway congratulations Drake on the win and here's to hoping for a similar game next week with a different ending.

Nyghtewynd
01-22-2008, 08:29 PM
IMO, Creighton must win at Drake to receive at-large consideration. That's two losses at home, their best win is against a St. Joe's team that no one really considers to be high-class, and they may finish third or fourth in-conference. They may have one more regular season loss at most, and it can't be to Drake. IlSU and DU are the first two possibilities, and the Valley isn't getting three.

jayfan04
01-22-2008, 08:37 PM
I think if the Jays run the table at home and lose maybe 1 or 2 on the road and get a good BB game on the road and win that they still have a chance for at large possibilities. They would still be somewhere like 22-6, 22-7. These next two at Southern and at Drake will be the biggest games of the year for the Jays.

On another note, I met up w/ DU, McBull and a few other Drake fans at Embassy Suites before the game. Those A-holes can drink! Beer cans everywhere! McBull was doing Rumpleminz body shots off DU's buttcrack, all the while, these two hookers were entertaining each other. I don't know why DU chose arseless chaps and a blue wifebeater to wear to a game. Disturbing, but not as disturbing as McBull wearing nothing but a jock.

Anyway, it was a good time, thanks guys.
