View Full Version : Apologies to the Drake Nation

While I have not said so in the past, I have always thought Drake was a paper tiger....er, paper Bulldog.

Adjusting for garbage points at the end, Drake only beat the Shockers by 3. With a few seconds remaining, the Shockers had the ball and could have tied the gamewith a 3. After all, the Shockers are a poor team.

I have been waiting, since December 29, for confirmation of my keen and analytical insight about Bulldog basketball. Nary a shred of confirmation came about. The Bulldogs just kept on, keeping on.

The Bulldogs victory over the mighty Creighton Blue Jays in Omaha last night confirms in spades that I was just plain Wrong, Wrong, Wrong about Bulldog baskball.

I apologize.

Go Bulldogs!!!

You mean like the guy on the Bradley board that said yesterday: "Mark my words.......Creighton 74........Drake 61"

Coincidentally, he started his thread on his board that way, but hasn't replied to it since the game ended. You mean like that guy? He'd rather run away from it than own up and admit he was way wrong.

RDR.........nice work. Drake is a darn good club.

i don't know what you are apologizing for. The entire board was wrong with their picks and where Drake would finish. If you're wrong, you're wrong, it's nothing to be sorry over.

They are predictions, not set in stone, and to apologize in my opinion is the wrong course of action. You did nothing wrong, nor did anyone else by predicting Drake low at the beginning of the season, especially since those predictions were based on a new coach, a returning team that hadn't proven they could win close games or get over "the hump," and a single game hadn't been played yet. I'd say you, and everyone else, were justified in their pre-season predictions.

I have a respect for Drake I Didn't have before, and I will admit as many have they were wrong about their pre-season predictions, but I'm not sorry for making those predictions, its part of the game and why we are fans.

He's not talking about pre-season predictions....he's talking about his thoughts after having seen Drake play in Wichita on December 29th....and not being impressed with the 'dogs at that time.

Ricky, classy post. For what it's worth, there are a lot of Drake fans who had similar thoughts to you. They're proving us all wrong. I'm just enjoying this magical ride, however long it lasts.

Speaking of Jimmy Naismith here are his rules, they have been modified a little.

13 Rules of Basketball (as written by James Naismith)

1. A BasketballThe ball may be thrown in any direction with one or both hands.
2.The ball may be batted in any direction with one or both hands, but never with the fist.
3. A player cannot run with the ball. The player must throw it from the spot on which he catches it, allowance to be made for a man running at good speed.
4. The ball must be held by the hands. The arms or body must not be used for holding it.
5. No shouldering, holding, pushing, striking or tripping in any way of an opponent. The first infringement of this rule by any person shall count as a foul; the second shall disqualify him until the next goal is made or, if there was evident intent to injure the person, for the whole of the game. No substitution shall be allowed.
6. A foul is striking at the ball with the fist, violations of Rules 3 and 4 and such as described in Rule 5.
7. If either side makes three consecutive fouls it shall count as a goal for the opponents (consecutive means without the opponents in the meantime making a foul).
8. A goal shall be made when the ball is thrown or batted from the grounds into the basket and stays there, providing those defending the goal do not touch or disturb the goal. If the ball rests on the edges, and the opponent moves the basket, it shall count as a goal.
9. When the ball goes out of bounds, it shall be thrown into the field and played by the first person touching it. In case of dispute the umpire shall throw it straight into the field. The thrower-in is allowed five seconds. If he holds it longer, it shall go to the opponent. If any side persists in delaying the game, the umpire shall call a foul on them.
10. The umpire shall be the judge of the men and shall note the fouls and notify the referee when three consecutive fouls have been made. He shall have power to disqualify men according to Rule 5.
11. The referee shall be judge of the ball and shall decide when the ball is in play, in bounds, to which side it belongs, and shall keep the time. He shall decide when a goal has been made and keep account of the goals, with any other duties that are usually performed by a referee.
12. The time shall be two fifteen-minute halves, with five minutes rest between.
13. The side making the most goals in that time is declared the winner.

Derived from a thread entitled "Apology", 12/04/06:

Look, lets get something clear. I like all of you guys, I really do, you provide a great place to pass the time, you all seem genuinely nice for the most part. This is a message board, that's all. It's supposed to be fun, opinionated, passionate, etc. etc. I try to keep to that. This is not life or death.

Also I do think I'm 100% right when I say something, its called confidence. If it turns out to be wrong, I'll deal with it then. I have, I've said I was wrong about SU and LSU games, I've said those were impressive wins, and I've said that WSU is now the favorite in the vally. But that's all you are getting out of me, and the only crow I'm eating. They are only predictions, not facts.

I'm not gonna change who I am or everything I believe, because I missed a few game predictions. I'm just not. I will change my mind on individual teams, and I have, as evidence by saying WSU is now the favorite in the valley.

I would like to sincerly apologize to anyone that I've truly offended or caused to leave valley talk, that was not my intention, never was. I am however still going to be very opinionated and confident. If you can understand that's just the way I am when you read my post, it will go a long way. I like this board, I like talking and arguing valley basketball with ALL of you. It's great fun. I hope you think so to. Again I'm sorry if I've offended anyone or caused them to leave valley talk. I just was trying to keep things from being a bore, I hope that can be appreciated. Sorry for any inconveniences.

Sincerely,
Dawgiestyle.

I was apologizing for my presentation of my opinon, not the opinion itself, and you know that to be true.

ps, although I like the new design of the board, and the effort put into it, its freaking slow!

All of us were wrong about Drake. I'm still rubbing my eyes when I see what Drake has accomplished.

I'm very please for Drake and their fans. Talk about a long long wait.

I know. It's just funny telling someone not to apologize after you started up an apology thread as well. I also just wanted to rehash some good memories. Memories of you with your tail between your legs, down on your knees, begging for forgiveness. Good times!

I think the speed is the same as it was in the older version.

You just can't stand for a feel good story to feel....well, good, can you?

If some manner, you must make a petty statement to diminish the joy of others.

I believe your chronic propensity to do so says a lot about your character.

Again, another one that falls in the trap of assuming character means jack squat on a message board of anonymity where there are no true consequences.

I'm not saying your analysis doesn't apply to the real world, it does, but Valley talk or any other message board is not the real world.

What the hell is that about? I'm a Drake fan. Of course I feel good. just exactly what does it say about my character. It was just another way to say don't worry about it, we were all wrong.

Oh, is that true, Mr. Z? ..

don't want to know, or care to know....I know if we all really WANT to, we can find out who each person is...but I would think most of us had enough brains not to try and find out....

I know our names were displayed on the NCAA tourney pick em last year...or you know my Saluki talk name, which I freely gave out.

Thanks RDR for the classy post. We (my travel group of bulldog fanatics) appreciate the respect you and other Valley fans are showing our bulldogs this season. It truly is great as a visiting fan to have opposing fans acknowledge the effort, hustle, good play from the bulldogs, especially after just losing. :thumbup1:

The Valley has a lot of classy fans, we've seen them firsthand in Wichita, Peoria & Omaha. Didn't make the trip to Evansville, they might be nice too, just don't have firsthand knowledge.

Nice post RDR, to be honest, I kept on thinking that it had to end after the next game myself. Keno has just ended up proving to be a better coach than anyone thought, and the players are proving to be a better team than I even dreamed.
