Oh whole hopefully the game tonight turns out like ever other Cu SIU matchup which are typically really good.

I thought the arena looked great and I thought the fans were pretty good also. It's publicity for SIU and it's publicity for the Valley. I know they ripped the conference a bit but they didn't say anything that was not true.

Summing up what was said, basically #23 Drake has to win the Valley Tournament to get into the NCAA's..

It just goes to show you that as much as you hope that someday common sense will overcome the money spewed at these idiots, they will never change.
Drake is currently 9 in the RPI. Only a titanic collapse down the strech keeps them out of the dance.

They only say what the majority of the audience wants them to say. I think they said Digger has picked the home team in the gameday games all year. Why? It makes him popular. The big conferences have more fans. Therefor, they get less hate email if the build up the bigger conferences while tearing down the smaller.

I thought it was more the Valley took a beating. One bid league. Didn't get it done in non-conference. Blah, blah, blah.
Yeah, they singled out Drake for some reason. They haven't beaten anybody, and backed that up by saying Drake is 0-1 against the rpi top 25. They didn't mention that Drake's sos is 79 (not great, but better than some "lock" teams), they're 2-1 against the rpi top 50, and 6-1 against the rpi top 100. They also said Illinois State is a better team, but didn't mention that Drake is 2 games up on ISU in league play. Apparently if Drake wins every game until the MVC tourney final, they're NIT bound.

Don't worry Drake. They couldn't pick three bigger idiots to put on that show. That is the reason they are on it. If they said the right thing all the time, they would be boring. That is why they don't ask Lunardi to do it. Or heck, even Gottlieb is pretty knowledgeable, thus, he is not allowed to do Gameday. Face it. If you are a capable broadcaster, you broadcast games, you don't host studio shows. Except for Bilas, the other 2 are broadcast rejects. So, they say controversial or just pain dumb things because it makes people pay attention.
They are just ticked they have to be in Carbondale. Digger and Bilas think they should always be broadcasting from Madison Square Garden. Forget about it. Drake, take care of business and you are a dead lock. I don't care what they say. In your current position, you are a 100% lock to make the Dance probably as a 6 or 7 seed.
And, for all their comments about the Valley, it sure is odd that we are still the 8th best conference. How the hell does that happen? Let them say what they want about the Valley, Lunardi and the other bracketologists know that we are a 2 bid league.

I thought the show came off as well as can be expected. SIU is 9-10. Creighton is no great unit this year either. Neither are at the top of the MVC at gametime, neither have overly impressive resumes, nor does the league in general.
The league is down. They'll talk about the game a bit more tonight. They gave the MVC about as much respect as it deserves, other then not crediting Drake for its record and current RPI.
SIU fans and the small patch of blue did a nice job of atmosphere. Should be rocking tonight.
Hopefully they talk about the 40 some million SIU is putting into the ole arena in the next two years, with portions completed in time for 2010-11.
SIU received a $1,000,000 private gift toward SalukiWay on Thursday. A $20,000,000 committment from the city of Carbondale this past fall and SIU is going to have a pretty nice joint in a couple years. Its already a loud, historic place to watch a basketball game.
Hope the Dawgs and Jays put on a good show tonight and hope the Dawgs get a win so I can drink on Thursday in STL and not focus on the Dawgs until Friday.
I still think a draw that goes thru Drake on semifinal Saturday is good for the team that gets it.

Hubert Davis was interviewed by local TV station yesterday, he commended the SIU Gameday crowd, said it was triple the size of the Florida crowd last week. Even Digger commented that the intensity level was as good as anywhere they have ever been for Gameday.
If you want to experiment with that leaning over the bleachers thing MVJ, I will happily supply a ticket.

It really came off well on tv, the entire day, despite SIU's play this season. SIU fans really stepped up and put on a good show. Heard from folks who are not diehards of SIU or the MVC in general and the reactions were good.
Hopefully gameday comes back to the MVC and puts on a good show in your town. I think it will be 5 to 10 years, but I guess we'll see if the league steps it up and makes ESPN come back with urgency.

I would love for them to give Creighton/Omaha a shot at gameday sometime in the future. I also think Bradley/Peoria would make for a good gameday location - maybe if ISU stays good that will be a rivalry to highlight in the future. That's not to say that no one else would be good, all the Valley locations would be good, but I think Omaha and Peoria would be particularly good location and they are the locations that sort of deserve it after SIU.

No doubt, Wichita would also be good, but I wouldn't mind showing off the 17,000 at Qwest (maybe against Wichita) or Carver full of Red in the rivalry between them and ISU Red. But, I could certainly see a Wichita - Missouri State game being the setting for Gameday as well, although I don't think that rivalry is as heated as some others.
It would be nice if we could get a non-con gameday broadcast. Qwest as the setting for Creighton v. Xavier for instance. That would be a great non-conference matchup to highlight nationally.

While the roundhouse is a great place to watch a game and it is always packed with screeming fans, Game Day usually only goes to where two good to great teams are playing.
Also, the Knapp Center needs to have a game televised on something other than Mediacom so more people can see just how hard this team plays!

The sightlines for TV games in Wichita are atrocious for the viewer. If there's ever an MVC game on gameday again, it had better be from the Qwest. That would shatter the impression ESPN gave about our league's teams playing in relics that hold under 10k fans.

Whoa, Knapp would make Gonzaga's home court look "big time". It's been a couple of years since I've made the trip for CU-DU, but Knapp reminded of the CU student Kiewit fitness center, but with bleachers.

While the Knapp Center may not be very impressive empty, when it is full (as it has been almost all of this year) it is as loud as any other court. About 1000 students come to each home game, and all of them and some would be at the Knapp for College Gameday, guaranteed.
By the way, I hope you have tickets to the game Wednesday, if you are coming, because they are sold out (even student tickets are gone).

About a week ago, there were a number of us who posted on TBC that there were lots of tickets left. I could have bought hundreds of tickets off the Drake website... a couple of the entire sections behind the backboards were entirely available. I'm sure CU will represent, but wish it would have been a weekend game to allow CU to take over Knapp again.

Are they doing assigned seating for behind the baskets in the upper sections? Usually, whoever gets there with their general admission ticket first gets to sit where they wish, but could be different for today.
And there is no way that Creighton fans will "own the Knapp Center" this year.
Obviously, they haven't been paying attention to the Drake attendance this year!

Like WSU, Drake has to prove that they're consistently good to be even deemed worthy of being remotely considered as to being a GameDay host. One nice year outta 30 doesn't bring GameDay to your school.

I understand that Southern has been a very good team in the past and was projected to be the same this year, but they aren't. This was a middle-of-the-road Valley team playing at home against a quality Bluejay squad. This matchup almost always brings a good game, but College Gameday is almost always at the site of one of the better schools of the year, not one that has been good in the past.
If Gameday was going to go to a MoValley game this year, the match-up wasn't the SIU Creighton matchup. A better choice is the Drake-Ill SU or Drake-Creighton. ESPN wouldn't have seen that early in the year (heck, no one would have), but there are better MoValley matchups this year.

And that's the point. I hate defending SIU in any way possible, but they had to pick a site for Gameday well in advance.. I think as early as September.. They just don't pick the sites on a week by week basis. No sane person at ESPN would ever have put a Gameday involving Drake in the month of September. Hell, it was hard enough to even get SIU-CU.. and I'm guessing the national audience was low and not impressed.

It could have been Drake vs. ISU and could have been a final score of 103-99 and played flawlessly and most of the country would not have been impressed.
During Bracketbuster weekend last year I was hanging out with around 20 friends (none are Valley fans, almost all went to BCS schools from Vandy to U of I) for a bachelor party and forced them all to watch SIU-Butler. That was probably one of the best games I have seen in a long time. The overwellming opinion of everyone there was that it was a boring game with a bunch of athlete's that couldn't have competed on their respective schools level.
These are all casual college basketball fans and my guess this is the opinion of most fans nationally as well. Nothing the Valley does impresses them because of the names of the schools on the jersey. Maybe we should just be happy that the Valley did get Gameday rather than pissing and moaning about where it was.
I think the crying that goes on here about the Valley getting respect happens way too much. I know that SIU has a good program, same with Creighton, UNI, Bradley, WSU and other Valley schools. I don't really care that some a-hole from South Carolina thinks that the Gamecocks are a better basketball program. We all know the truth and it shows almost every year come tournament time. We can compete with anyone.
