godStutzgod? Pay close attention to things like blocked shots and 3-pointers on the other end. Or baskets while sitting on the floor with defenders around you...:lol::lol:

Stutz has connections to Wichita. If K-State, Nebraska, and Kentucky weren't going to get him over Wichita, I don't think SWOMO would have either.
Furthermore, we had Jesus on our side in regards to Stutz so BACK OFF! :original:

Athletic 6ft guards are a dime a dozen in the Valley. Congrats on nabbing one!!111
As far as athletic, coordinated, 7'2" centers with good hands and feet go... well... let's just say they are more rare!
That kid has about as much of a chance pulling that dunk of in the MVC as Stutz does the seated layup.

Last I checked, the MVC is typically a guard oriented league. I haven't seen your boy Stutz play so I won't commnent on his abilities, but he chose WSU over Nebraska and not much else. The best players in Nebraska don't even pick Nebraska.. why would anyone else? Just wondering, did Kansas or Missouri offer the kid? If not, it makes you wonder what issues they see in a 7 footer that would deter them.

That's what I have been wondering. A 7ftr from Kansas City and both Kansas and Missouri have no interest? And based on what Doc Sadler has recruited to Nebraska so far, I'm not sure he is exactly a good judge of talent. Maybe Stutz is the next Shang Ping?

as long as we're on big men and where they actually went to school...how does that 7'-7" monster end up only at UNC ashville?
Is he just tall and has no skill or what's the deal? If your that tall you play for UNC or Duke, or the NBA (although after 1 year). What's the deal with this kid, and why is he at UNC ashville?
I ask, because my point is, just because your tall and "look" good in HS against midgets, doesn't mean you'll be good in college.

I'm not saying your boy will be a bust or anything, but be careful! What was the tallest kid on the other team? 6'4"? We have had some bigger guys that looked like studs in high school get here and not be able to play against 6'9" guys. Again, not here to say he isn't legit, just saying be careful! That's all.

This is a stupid thread, for obvious reasons. However, I read an article on rivals or scout, or whatever, that said Stutz had received an offer from Kentucky before he committed. He was not offered by Kansas or Missouri. Not sure what that's worth, if anything, but any time you can get a 7 footer to eat up space in the lane, if nothing else, it's a pretty good thing. O'Bryant wasn't exactly refined when he was at Bradley, but that turned out pretty well for them!

I understand that he may have "slipped under the radar" of Kansas, Missouri, etc… of course Kansas already has a stable full of big men and he would have been behind their new freshman center. Kansas State and Kentucky also recruited him late... he even went to Lexington for a visit. You don't get an invite to UK unless you have a major upside… they don’t waste their time on stiffs.
Everyone needs to understand that this kid was 6'5" a little over a year ago... he probably wasn't on many lists until this summer and he’s still adapting to his body. The Shockers benefited from his late growth spurt and heads will turn as he continues to develop… I understand that he also has a brother playing at a Kansas Juco near Wichita... not sure if that had an influence or not? Time will tell, but put me in the "impressed" category. He appears to have a “huge” upside for many reasons... Creighton and any other Valley team would be thrilled to have him... even in a guard dominated league.
The Valley is getting better players every year and several teams are loading up with solid talent... talent that usually signs with BCS schools. The future looks bright for the Valley to remain the top non-BCS league.

I think it has also been noted that his father is Regional Director of FCA. WSU has a pretty strong group from what I understand and it was founded or energized by former WSU hoopster Cameron Ledford.
Besides, he really hit it off with Gregg Marshall's 9-year-old son.
He and his family have been to a lot of WSU home games since his committment. It has been mentioned that Stutz's older brother may walk-on at WSU once his committment to Butler County juco is completed.
For a really tight-knit family to have both sons playing on the same team or within 30 miles of each other had to have some serious drawing power.
Maybe that's why he turned down K-State's NBA franchise and Kentucky's Big Blue.

a few notes on Garrett Stutz
He played at a small christian school last year and was only 6'6 and 185lbs. Over summer he jumped to 7' and impressed recruiters in summer ball. He was offered by K-state and visited Kentucky but not sure they offered, think he was plan B. Regardless if K-state (of late) offers and Kentucky brings you in for a visit your not just a tall guy with no ability.
According to maxpreps he is 7' and 245lbs. He has also transferred to north kansas city which plays in the largest class in missouri. He is averaging 21.9pts/ 11.8 rbs/ 3.9 blocks thru 15 games. His point and rebound average has steadly been climbing. One article on him pointed out that he has become more aggressive as the season continues on. He is 41% from 3pt range, granted only 17 shots taken, and 70% from free throw line
Like any recruit he is an unknown until he actually delivers on the floor. I'm certainly not under any delusions that he is going to come in and be an instant stud but he is tall, athletic, seems to be a good shooter, looks to have good hands, and while skinny he certainly isn't the weakest 7' I've seen. It's tough not to get excited about him and if he wasn't such a late bloomer I'm not sure WSU would have had a chance with him.

Nice to see some size coming into the Valley.
UNI certainly has a stable full and will be adding a couple more next year. Lose Coleman, but have two 6'10" fresman (one redshirt, one true) and Koch's "little" brother (he's also 6'8" but has more size than Adam at this point and may not be done growing) to go with Adam, Eglseder and O'Rear.
Now if we can just get Drake a post player that likes to play inside so they will stop shooting all thos edang threes.

I keep hearing the Sycamores have an athletic stud from Chicago coming in by the name of Carl Richard, but I can't find any video. I haven't the time to dig deep, maybe someone can.
Marquette was recruiting him, but passed after coach Crean went down to see him. He committed to WSU as few days later. I don't know if there is any connection. MU really needs a center who can step in and play next season. As a result, MU went after a post player out of Texas who committed to them the following weekend, I believe. He is much more physically developed than Stutz.
That said, I must say that after watching video of the kid, Stutz appears to have significant talent. He reminds me a lot of Randy Breuer. He has a nice shooting touch and is surprisingly athletic. He is very weak and could use a redshirt season to get stronger. I believe that he is the kind of player that you take as a project. I think Wichita State got a good one.
As a sidenote on his recruiting, this is from a Kentucky recruiting blog this fall.
I am always hesitant to give my personal opinions on the players that Kentucky recruits for a variety of different reasons. Some are matters of taste and decorum and some are simply a realization that I dont want anything I say to ever have an effect on what a kid decides to do with his college decision. Having said that, sometimes kids strike me in various ways. It is no secret that I was a big fan of the personalities of Jai Lucas, Patrick Patterson and Marshall Moses. You may not know, but it is true, that I wasnt always excited about talking to JJ Hickson or Anthony Randolph. When you have multiple conversations with someone, you cant help but get a feel for how they react and their personalities….and often that cant help but have an effect on how you view them as a recruit.
With that being said, I found Garrett Stutz, who committed yesterday to Wichita State, to be….well….unique. In conversations with he and his family, I often felt like I was talking to Ned Flanders and the boys and I sort of wondered if it could actually be real. Dont get me wrong, they were nice…..but also a little sheltered and I questioned how Stutz might react to the spotlight of UK basketball.
Then today came news of this quote (via TCP) from the Wichita Eagle: “I was like ‘Wow, I think God’s trying to tell me something here. I think that was the final sign. God was leading me to Wichita State.” When I saw that quote, not only did I find it bizarre, but it didnt surprise me one bit. To Stutz and his family, God decided the outcome of a basketball game….involving two teams in a pre-season tournament (the kind God really focuses on)….in order to tell Garrett where to go to school.

By the way, UK has so many recruiting dollars, it would be hard to say that any of them are "precious".

UK was waiting on a 5-star player (plan A) who wasn't going to commit until the 1st day of the signing period. Stutz, who visited UK during their midnight madness (or whatever they call it) was plan B. Well, plan A committed to Florida State after Stutz committed to WSU. Had Stutz still been available, he was next in line to get the offer. So UK was hoping Stutz would wait on them. He didn't.
At least, that's how I understand it to have gone down.

Stutz's dad is a coach. It's reported that Stutz's fundamentals are better developed than most HS post players. From the couple of videos I've seen, that seems to be true.
Stutz is also reported to be checking for the first day he can show up at WSU and start conditioning work, strength work and get on the floor with the summer games and players. There's tha appearance he will have a good work ethic.
If Orukpe, the 7' Nigerian, ever shows up, there is speculation that Stutz's ability to play away from the basket could move him to the PF position. Quickness and mobility could become issues with Stutz at PF. That's supposed to be the reason he was "Plan B" at Kentucky.

Too answer your question, you need to understand a little bit more about the station. Matt is not the Creighton play-by-play guy. Matt is not the color guy. Matt is not a member of the broadcast team. So no, Matt won't even be there to ask a question. Matt has parlayed his role on the afternoon show to include a pretty good gig; he gets to do a pre and post-game show "live" at a local bar. He gets to eat and drink for free! But no, unfortunately, he won't be a part of the media surrounding Marshall.
I know this disappoints you, but I also wonder why you would even think that a head coach would want to carry on a grudge with a member of the media. Furthermore, a media member outside of his market area. Why on earth would Marshall care other than there was a blurb here and there on a few local message boards. I'm pretty sure both of them are over it, too bad you can't let it go. Furthermore, Isn't Marshall busy coaching a team? Does Marshall have so much time on his hands that he can obsess over what a local Omaha (not Wichita) guy said? If that's the case, I think we can add a few reasons beyond injuries as to why Wichita State has struggled.
Wow.
