After the WSU vs. Indiana State game last night, when the WSU players had finished shaking hands with the Sycamores, they headed off the court for the last time after a frustrating year. What happened next was simply awesome in my opinion. WSU's entire fan base (and there were a lot left in the Scottrade) got on their feet and cheered for their players as they left the floor. I thought that was proof positive that they have a tremendous group of fans. Even through a tough year they sold out Koch routinely and they really supported their team in St. Louis. I just thought it was really classy and worth mentioning here. More fan bases should be that appreciative of the effort of their team (win or lose). It pains me to say it, but Go Shocks!

That's the way it's been for 50 years, going back to the days of HOF coach Ralph Miller and All-American Cleo Littleton.

I appreciate the kind comments.

"It's a tough year........" (to paraphrase the originator)

But for the most part, our fan base applauds the efforts of the kids on the floor this year.

Thanks Panthers. I spoke with HCGM after the BU game in Wichita and he went on and on about the fans' response at the end of that game.

For those that weren't there, BU came out and blitzed WSU for 20 minutes and were ahead at least 20 at half (20 makes it sound closer than it was, it could have been 50). The kids came out and managed to get it to 8 (I think) at least once before finally giving in and losing by 13 or so.

The crowd, still mostly there at the end, gave the kids and coaches a standing and thunderous ovation as they left the floor. Gregg watched in amazement at the time, and days later still commented on how unbelievable it was that there was that much support with so little to show for it.

I told him that our fan base is passionate, and that what matters to us most is getting that passion back. It is why our fan base loves Matt and it's why we love Gregg. And in some ways, it's why so many other fanbases dislike us.

Good luck in the tourney.

I thought it had something to do with all the really classless fans in Kansas supporting Kansas State.

So it takes class to cheer your own players?

Really classy when WSU fans throw "shocker" hand signs at every camera.

Do you know that there aren't 10,000 shocker fans flashing the shocker sign? It's mainly a student thing and it's supposed to be a "W"..

I personally think people make too big of a deal out of it and complain about it just for the sake of complaining.

My understanding is she feel and busted her lip when he was trying to get her to leave a house or something or she was trying to get him to leave or whatever.

I think you'll notice that I never posted anything negative or anything at all on that thread about Ruffin, at least I don't recall posting anything.

I simply threw that out there because D-bag braves fan had to throw his two cents in.

Coulda been.

You're probably right. It's more likely there it was a hick SIU fan since they're overwhelmingly swarming St. Louis.

Well so much for posting an appreciative thread about one of our fellow schools and their fans. I'm still impressed with the level of loyalty and support by WSU fans. UNI can't even get 500 students (out of a student body of 13,000) to come to home games.

No one said that the WSU fans weren't upset with the loss, but they still gave their TEAM a thunderous ovation after a loss. I'd love to replace that passion with the "we'll show up and watch the Panthers when they win" crowd in Cedar Falls.

I agree with Panter, Great Support Shockers! True fans are the ones that are supportive, even when you are not winning. You had a tough year, but you will get better. Coach Marshall will do great things at WSU!

It's pretty sad that somebody makes a nice comment and some morons come on here and start bashing the positivity.

Good Job Shocks and Good Luck next year!

Umm, jealous, yeah, thats it. I'm glad WSU has had 48 straight sellouts. That's awesome. As a BU fan I'm ok with attendance in Peoria.

Okay folks, this pissing into one another's cheerios must stop at least until the end of March Madness, which is hopefully sometime well into April. We all know that my dad is better than your dad, etc. etc. but for the moment we must come together as family to cheer the Bulldogs and hopefully the Redbirds to another MVC double take into the Sweet 16 or even better, the Elite 8.

Go Valley!!

Go Shocks!!!!

My Crew was at every game. The crowd and applause Shocker fans gave their team and their coach before, during and AFTER the game was amazing.

I only wish that when Marshall came back from doing his post game radio show he would have acknowledged them. I can understand he was still pretty angry at the officials, but that would have been nice to throw them a wave.

I have sat among Shocker fans for the last 2 MVC tourneys and have left very impressed with them as fans and as people. :notworthy:
