Doesn't look like DS has made an appearance yet. I thought I would kindly invite him to state his opinion of the Drake Bulldogs here, so everyone will have easy access to it.

Didn't want to start a new thread so I figure this thread is as good as any...just fyi
It have been a great year for Drake on the court, and this weekend Coach Keno Davis added a 2008 commitment in 6-foot-7, 215-pound small forward Cory Parker of Aspen (Colo.) High School.
Parker, who chose Drake over Northern Colorado, Denver, Brown and South Dakota State, averaged 21 points, 9.2 rebounds, 4.3 assists and 3.1 steals per game this season.

Is he a small forward or more likely to be a 4? If he is 6'7" and is athletic enough to play the 3 and can shoot, then could be a good player at Drake.

His coach said this about him...
"Parker will fit in well in Coach Keno Davis' system at Drake," said Parker's travel team coach David Matthews of the Colorado Chaos Basketball Club. "He is a very versatile small forward who can score in a variety of ways. He is one of the best shooters in the region who also rebounds, blocks shots and scores inside very well. He still has a ton of growth potential and should have a wonderful college career."

Should be exciting....
He won't get a scholarship freshman year, but if he can shoot and play defense/rebound, then likely a redshirt with a chance the following season to get a scholarship.

He set his criteria for saying appearently the most coveted word in the english language the way some of you act. I guaruntee you he will say that Drake is impressive when that criteria is met (make the NCAA tournament), which they have.
I don't see how he is "wrong" in picking out a different set of circumstances that is completely subjective for every person and then when meeting those circumstances saying so.
Did all Drake fans on the same day at the same time all decide that Drake was impressive at that instant? Or is it much more likely that that occurred at different times for different fans based on goals and events that made them switch their opinion. DS simply set a different set of circumstances, just like every other person did....only difference is, you guys dont like or think the ones he picked are right. So he's "wrong" to you, big whoop.
I wouldn't expect him say he is wrong, simply say that Drake is impressive. If your expecting anything else you are going to be dissappointed.
He may wait till Selection Sunday just to see you all squirm all week....because all of you hate Dawgie and think his opinion is stupid, but start threads and talk about this all the time.....I think he personally has you all by the balls.

Drake has made the NCAA tournament, and accomplished what any valley team should do at a minimum to be considered Impressive.
So Drake fans, I'm impressed with your team, for making the NCAA tournament, anything less would have been a dissapointment and a failure.
I do want to note, that I'm impressed because you made the dance, not because you were a poor team the previous 20 years.
So congrats on a good season culminating in a bid to the NCAA tounament, the most important thing. Teams in the valley may improve season to season, or even win Conf. titles, but if you don't make the dance, none of it matters.

wrong about what? did I say Drake couldn't make the tournament? All I said is they had to make the tournament for me to be impressed. They did, I am. The only thing "wrong" is that you don't like my definition of "impressed." Get over it.

Ive been quiet on this until now but...I was one who even after seeing DU play SIU twice thought they were just a good team but not a good NCAA team...well, I was flat out wrong...yesterday they did what no other team has done since 1998 and that is win both the league and the tournament..and in doing so they made it clear that they were the class of the Valley this year...congratulations to a great team and good luck in the dance....

Count me in as very impressed.
KD has done as great job of fitting the pieces within the puzzle. The players know their roles and they don't try to do things they aren't capable of doing. We watched them from our court side seats and just shook our heads on how they consistently demonstrate that basketball is a simple game when execution, teamwork and good decisions are on display.
We love the saying..."Know your job, do your job." Drake is a perfect example of all the pieces coming together and doing their job.

Oh Happy Days!!!!
By the way, there is at least 1 vote for Keno Davis as NCOY....Andy Katz.
"My top five in order the way I'll vote for the USBWA Henry Iba Award
• Keno Davis, Drake: Picked ninth, finished first. Drake was the story of the college basketball season. It's his first year. He took over for his father. Sound familiar? Yeah, Tony Bennett did it at Washington State (except for the finishing first part). The trend continues. Davis should get the award.
• Matt Painter, Purdue: Painter was supposed to be a year away, but he got the baby Boilermakers in position to challenge for the Big Ten title. Purdue swept Wisconsin, too. Painter has Purdue back.
• Bo Ryan, Wisconsin: OK, the Badgers couldn't beat Purdue, but Wisconsin won the Big Ten title outright a year after losing a national player of the year finalist in Alando Tucker.
• Rick Barnes, Texas: The Longhorns lost the best player in the country in Kevin Durant. Sure, they had D.J. Augustin back, but the development of players such as Connor Atchley and the attitude to play anyone, anywhere and win (see: wins at UCLA and over Tennessee in Newark) should justify a potential coach of the year award.
• Herb Sendek, Arizona State: The Sun Devils were last a year ago. ASU should be in the field this season after sweeping Arizona, knocking off Xavier and beating Stanford. Sendek made a great move heading West.

Probably not. But for the record, I became impressed when we beat Duquesne at the Knapp on a brutal winter night with few fans making the trip in. We were something like 4-1 then. I knew that we would be special. HOW special was a game by game story that needed time to be told.

Here's what is most impressive to me = I never thought a fan base with no success during their lifetimes could approach the arrogant a-holeness of WSU's fanbase after their little one year in 20 success.
Drake fans {not all} are catching up very quickly.
At least pretend to have some class and humility = the fall back to sh**ville can land you in the 8-9 game where your coach gets tossed pretty quickly and you won't find anyone with compassion here.

I could see them talking smack about individuals who said derogatory stuff about Drake....but what's with the uninformed smacks on Ruffin (obviously they haven't read the recent stuff about his case) and Les. I don't remember anytime either one of them have said anything bad about Drake. Only thing I can think of is sour grapes about BU being one of only teams to beat them at home this year.
I get the Bilas, and Digger stuff, and the ISU fans (the ones who were being aholes...not all of them). Bagging on Falker because their guy didn't get it (I've never understood the idea of tearing someone else down just because your guy didn't get it).
If that's what's considered fun.....whatever.

Curt Smith wasn't very tall back in the day but I guess that doesn't count since he played at Drake for a year.
Perhaps if they read the article on Boo Richardson that Yahoo did last week and learned of some of the personal tragedies and long odds he has overcome to get where he is today, he wouldn't be a target for classless, immature commentary.
Then again.......maybe it wouldn't matter. Stay classy (some) Drake fans!

Wow....now that is a sad thread. I know that just represents the way a few select people feel, but it's things like that, and some of the garbage that is posted on here, that are going to cause people to start disliking and stereotyping your whole fan base. Which is a shame, because the few Drake fans that I've met seem pretty cool. I guess success will do that to any fan base though....you're always going to have a few a-holes making everybody look bad. Good luck in the tourney, and hopefully some of your more "exuberant" fans will tone it down a bit! :bulldogs:

You go through a season where every team you beat says you're not that good.
You go through a season where national pundits call the team you've beat twice the best team in the Valley.
You go through a season when every game, you pundits pick us to lose.
You go through a season when you beat a team they say the refs took it away.
You go through a season where a mistake at the scores table entitles WSU fans to acuse you of cheating.
You go through a season when you run rough shod over your conference, average a 20 point margin in the conference tournament, beat three teams on the way a third time and still you get no respect.
Then win it going away and have to read comments from sore losers like DawgieStool, LincolnJay, Danny Crooksie and Brave 2001.
We won. We're celebrating. And if those guys feel like we're flipping them off, they're right.

Where have I been a sore loser. We didn't even play you guys in the tourney. I'm as happy as anyone for Drake this season. I hope they go as far as they can in the tourney. I'll be cheering for you all the way.
Look, I don't know what your problem is, but it seems you (and a small vocal minority of Drake posters) have a problem with anyone who doesn't drink the blue kool-aid and announce to the world that Drake is the best team in the nation, they are going to win the national championship.
Every post I have made about Drake is level, backed up by statistics if applicable, and I provide a rational explanation for my opinion. If that means I don't always pick Drake as the winner for that particular argument it doesn't mean I don't respect Drake or think they aren't any good. If you can't see the difference... I don't know what to tell you.
As far as arguments go where its strictly my opinion....I have never once said anything bad about Drake or its fans as a whole. I will not back down on the fact that I don't understand the need for some of your fans and you to tear down other schools, players, and posters just because they disagree with you and now you have won the conference. I didn't calls those fans idiots or sore losers (like you), i simply said I don't understand it.
This Drake against the whole world attitude is frankly getting a little old. Almost every poster on here has given you props and respect (there are some that haven't), so quit playing the whoa is Drake card.

No offense to you personally, but this is nothing to what happened on this board several years ago when the SIU student paper mentioned VT and the board was overwhelmed by SIU students who were for a large part less than informed and less than gracious.
Not saying that some of the Drake fans recently haven't been obnoxious, they have. But, it's certainly not new for ValleyTalk....and I use SIU just as an example....there have been other fan bases on here too that were way, way over the top in the past.
