Probably a good idea for the sake of the Redbirds and Bluejays to make a "wish list" of teams to root against.
First one is San Diego, playing Gonzaga right now.
Oregon, Maryland (just because they're Maryland), and Kentucky or Florida are others. Syracuse? What if aTm loses on Thursday? Maybe Turg can help our conference by slipping up and opening the door for one of us to slip into the dance, too.
Feel free to contribute to this list as the week goes along. The ESPN talking heads were talking about the MVC at risk of only getting one bid between games tonight.
Let's give the Redbirds as much support as possible this week.
:redbirds: :jays: and :valley:
Hope this will take everyone's mind off of the grueling weekend and give us something to look forward to next weekend with a little more optimism.

San Deigo St, Oregon, Arizona St, probably Arizona, Syracuse, UAB. Losses by all of these teams would be good.
Personally I find it really had to believe Ill St. won't get in. Creighton is a longer shot.

Bubbles bursting tonight.
South Alabama gets bounced. Would be a travesty if they dont get in IMO but not a good loss for them at all.
Gonzaga down at half in the WCC championship.

Illinois State is as good as out now. They pulled a Hinson.

Lunardi had them as a 9 seed, I find it hard to believe they fall from a 9 to out. Harder to believe that than ISURed not getting in. But it for sure doesn't help anyone on the bubble.

TAS's tournament primer:
ACC:
Virginia Tech vs. Miami is a probably 4/5 matchup. Cede the bid to Miami and root against VT.
Maryland vs. Clemson - like I need to tell you.
Big East:
Syracuse vs. Villanova - Someone has to win, which is unfortunate. Villanova probably has to beat G'town to make it too. Syracuse might now. Therefore, go Villanova.
Big 12:
I don't think Baylor can fall all the way out of the bracket. Still, go Colorado just in case.
Texas A&M vs. Iowa St - Go Iowa St. A&M is a borderline case. They would get Kansas St next - if that game happens, cede the bid to KSU and root against A&M
Big Televen:
Michigan St vs. Ohio St - This appears to be pretty cut and dry, IMO. You know what to do.
CUSA:
UAB to lose, to anyone. A loss to a non-Memphis team would really make sure.
MAC:
Time to root for Kent St. Face it; they're going no matter what. Part of me wants to see this league get an at-large bid considering the massive amounts of screw jobs over the past 10 years from this conference.
Mountain West:
UNLV vs. New Mexico (probable semifinal): Cede the bid to UNLV and let's hope NM gets knocked out.
Pac 10:
Arizona, Oregon, and ASU will all have games against upper division teams. Each probably needs to win their game to make it.
SEC:
Arkansas is going to get Vandy in their first game. Hmm.
Go against Florida, who needs multiple wins.

appreciate you entertaining postseason hopes (NCAA) for CU, but Ill. St. is the only team that needs to be worrying about who wins and loses.

I will be rooting for Kent State. The MAC does not need multiple bids. I have no problem whatsoever continuing to screw the MAC. The MAC is our midwestern competition for best non-BCS. We should always, always root against the MAC. We don't ever want all those large Ohio and Michigan schools figuring out how to play basketball. Let them toil away at FBS football and continue to be a one-bid. I have no sympathy for them. None -- you know in terms of sports ... obviously I feel bad for NIU.

Pretty sure they are an 11. Also, if you look at the scroll thing they are 2 teams away from the last 4 in. If I were Illinois State I would be worried. They have a solid 2nd place finish to hang their hat on, but nothing else really sticks out. MSU's resume was close to this one with a better RPI and some top 50 wins. Its gonna be tight, there are always some upsets in conference tournaments and the BCS teams always get a bump with a much better chance to move up because of the quality of teams.
On a side note, Zags down 5 with 8:30 left.

Horrific night for bubble teams. Zags down 10 with less than 5 left.

At this point, based on the noxious crap coming out of the mouths of Des Moines residents, I'm beginning to think that it's time to cheer against Drake.

Misstated what I meant. SAU gets popped would have been better. I still think they are in and definitely in over ISU.

South Alabama's RPI is currently 39 and SOS is 128.
Illinois Stat's RPI is 34 and SOS is 70.
They did beat Mississippi State which is impressive however the rest of their resume isn't impressive at all.
For some reason, RealtimeRPI went down on me just now however I'd be curious to know their conference ranking as well. I'd hate to see 3 West Coast Conference teams and 2 from the Sunbelt with only 1 from the Valley.
Our resume isn't that bad.

Honestly we all just need to hope that the mid-majors get the knod over the big schools this year. All of the big schools have extremely similar resumes all of the mids have better resumes but arent in the big conferences.
Something interesting, Lunardi never brings up ISU when talking about bubble teams hurting but always talks about VCU. I think that is a good sign for ISU.
Extremely hard to give WCC 3, SBC 2, MVC 1 and quite frankly dont see it happening.

Have you been saving all of your smack talk for the past 39 years? Silly one year wonder

Yo, canbeatthejays3straighttimes....I hope the "one year wonder" description is meant for DT only, and not the Bulldogs. Because if so.....I may be forced to start a thread for the first time on VT.:naughty:

Yeah, Lunardi definitely has the Birds in. Others do not. But, as we have seen before, we have teams in when the Valley tournament finishes and then everyone else holds their conference tournament and we are forgotten about. I have no doubt that by this weekend, Lunardi will be talking about ISU right on the bubble mark. But, Lunardi is usually pretty good. If he keeps them as a solid in, then I really like their chances.

If the MVC gets one team in after IlSU Hinsoned themselves, at least that will end the high-major talk. High-majors don't get only one team.

...Jays will definitely be NIT bound. New rules state that if you accept the NITs offer, there is no backing out.
