View Full Version : WTF?! JAYS' FANS!!!!!

WTF?! Did you Jays fans actually pay $300 for these tickets or something similar that would make the cheap seat all session tickets costing $550 (http://www.ticketliquidator.com/tix/Tickets.aspx?evtid=631923) reasonable?

I was thinking that I hoped that Drake would be seated in Omaha, it's in conference, good folks, etc. No need to try to decide between 11 hour drives and flying.

IT'S THE SAME PRICE TO FLY TO DENVER AND GET SEATS THERE RELATIVE TO DRIVING AND GETING SEATS FROM OMAHA!

One sec while I calm down.

Serious question now, Jay's fans, did they really cost that much to begin with? Because I simply won't be able to go if Drake gets to Omaha, so now I'm curious as to what the heck happened.

Omaha only has the 7-10 games and the 2-15 games. Consequently, unless they get hosed and get a 7 seed I don't see them going to Omaha.

I might be wrong on that, I just saw ESPN had a 6-11 3-14 game there as well.

Where'd you learn that? I have yet to find anything that suggests the seeds are locked in yet, at least as far as which sites get what seeds(I've been looking), and I swear I remember at least one ESPN.com bracketology report from back when we were on the winning streak that had us in Omaha with a 4-5 seed.

I am looking to try and make sure any or all of that is accurate.

I'm going to make a new thread quoting all of this, because I think everyone here assumes we're talking about buying or selling tickets.

Realized that everyone assumed I was selling/buying Omaha tix based on previous thread title.

Are the seeds predetermined for the sites, or is that all up to the selection committee?
http://msn.foxsports.com/cbk/story/7895596/Breaking-the-Bracket:-Who's-in-right-now
I am showing here that Omaha has two 2-15 and 7-10 games. yet it is different at ESPN. http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/bracketology

No one knows what seeds Omaha will get - it's all speculation at this point. Kansas is virtually a lock to come to Omaha as either a 1 or 2 seed. Thus, the opposite side of the bracket will have an 8-9 game or a 7-10 game to oppose the Jayhawks (barring a first round collapse). The other 4 seeds are completely unknown, although if Drake can pull a 4 seed, it's possible that we'd get a 4-13 and 5-12.

As far as tickets go, it'd be best for you to cozy up to some friendly CU season ticket holders with extra tickets in their possession .. hint, hint.

Seeds are not predetermined for certain sites. According to the rules of the pod system, the top 4 seeds are protected for locations closest to their homes (so long as it isn't their home court).

Keno Davis was just interviewed on Omaha radio and said Drake would gladly accept a lower seed if they could get sent to Omaha.

If you want to make some $$$'s on your tix, you should sell them now. There are fewer fans then you'd think who will pay big $$'s for the 1/16 game. They'll wait for the weekend or the sweet 16 weekend.

When Bucknell beat Kansas in OKC a few years ago, scalpers took a bath.

I've been to 7 of the last 8 1st/2nd round sessions somewhere and there are always scalpers taking a bath if they are holding out for big $$'s and waiting for the fans to show up. Guess what, they got their tix or they'll wait out the pricing. Especially on Thursday/Friday games.

I may underestimate the amount of KU in Omaha. Is it that different then OKC?

The nutty EBay prices are often there, do they sell? If you can get several hundred a ticket and want the money, you should sell now. You can still get an upper tank ticket on gameday if you want to go with little of your profits.

When Kansas is playing Cornell and reality sets in, I'm not sure there is the market some think exists, or exists now.

I've actually bought and sold a few tickets here this week, while trying to accumulate enough for extended family relatives who are making the trip in to see KU (several are alums). You can get a decent seat for around $500 for three sessions, which includes six games - it's really not that big of a deal. I may have an extra seat or two when all is said and done for VTers should an MVC team be afforded the opportunity to play in Omaha.

It wasn't that overwhelming in OKC in 2005. Kansas is better this year, but it isn't that different. I'm sure KU travels great to the next weekend, they had a lot of fans in San Jose for the Sweet 16 last year. But, I'm not sure you'll see high demand to pay outrageous prices for a 1st round game with a 15 or 16 seed.

Guess we'll see.

Also, the committee will not give Omaha two high seeds (a 1 seed and a 2 or 3 seed.) They like to spread out the higher seeded teams throughout the regionals so that everyone has the chance of watching a very good team play. Kansas is a virtual lock for a 1 seed, so it is likely that a 4 and a 5 will also be there.

In my opinion, letting Drake play at Knapp Center West would be too great of an advantage for the Bulldogs, especially since they aren't going to be a 1 nor a 2 seed. For this reason, I see the Bulldogs going to Anaheim if UCLA gets a 1 seed. Otherwise, it will might be Little Rock along with Memphis.

Jerry Palm indicated that both Duke and UNC would likely be in Charlotte for the 1st/2nd rounds, so I don't think what you've stated is true. He also stated that KU and Texas could both come to Omaha as #2 seeds if it worked out that way. The NCAA may want to split things up, but location is a key element for placing the top seeds so it's quite possible that two high seeds could be playing in the same city.

The NCAA is trying to keep a uniform amount of talent in each of the regional. They first try to get the top seeds relatively close to home. Then, they try to keep a balanced field. If there is only 1 regional close to Duke and UNC, then it is possible that both will be there.

Replace lock in for possible.

I think Drake has a legitimate shot at being a No.4 seed. If that happens, obviously they are a lock for Omaha. Anything less and I still think their chances are good for the Nebraska oasis. While the committee only 'guarantees' the top 4 seeds protection for being close to home, it's quite possible and likely that they still can pair lower seeded teams as regionally as possible. They've done it before and they'll do it again.

It seems like, more than ever, the committee is more concerned about getting teams placed as geographically close to their host sites as possible than seeding the teams right. The last couple of years they've really effed up the whole seeding thing.

I'm thinking Omaha gets Kansas (obviously) and Wisconsin. Not only does the committee try to protect high seeds, but they protect them in order, which means the 4 seeds will get screwed unless they luck into having a close site with a pod still open. Omaha is the closest site for both Wisconsin and Drake, and Wisconsin will be the higher seed. With Kansas and Bucky in Omaha, that leaves Drake at the mercy of whatever sites have a pod open by the time the committee gets to them.

Now if Wisconsin's a 4 and Drake a 5, that may change things, but I don't think that scenario is likely.

Butler was sent to their closest but wasnt given any favors. Drake was sent to Florida.

I truly was surprised to see Drake 2 seeds higher then Butler. Then Butler gets a 7 and is placed on the opponents home floor basically. They dont want them making a run and I think that is why Drake was given a high seed, they dont have much faith in them and therefore didnt worry about them. Just my two cents.

I'm on sabatical. That said, I wasn't banned.

My take on the Omaha regional:

K-State fans whine, whine, whine. I think they really believe that the world is out to get them. However, truth be told, unfortunately for K-State and UNLV, the officials really seemed to favor the higher seeds.

Restroom lines were ridiculous. Concession lines were just as bad. Being at the Qwest Center all day I couldn't avoid buying concessions. I would recommend the Famous Dave's sandwich. The line was long but they moved you through pretty quickly. Regardless of the computerized cash register, the broads selling pop can't remember if you ordered a Pepsi or a Mountain Dew and they can't count change.

Kansas fans are strange. They were quiet unless there was a run.

UNLV fans were the most fun to watch. Wiscopnsin fans smelled of stale beer and cheese. I didn't see a Kent State fan, they must sport some super power that makes them invisible. Is Portland State in Oregon or Maine?

Back to K-State. The dance team is U G L Y. Hint to the team captain: Wearing less doesn't make you more attractive when half the girls are sporting back fat and the others have visible apendectomy scars. It must have sucked being on the same floor with the USC girls. K-State had the worst dance team of all! K-State's band director tried to help. During the timeouts when it was USC's turn to perform, he had his band play anyway. It was a no-class move and I was waiting for a skirmish between the bands to break out. Still, the girls from USC are hot, hot, hot!

Willey the Widcat is a stupid mascot. Fiberglass head and what... Nothing. They call that a BCS mascot? Lame.

That's it, back to my sabatical.

So everyone in Omaha is Catholic?

Wow. Funny.

You were the only one to take the comment seriously and reacted in the same manner.

Way ta go Skippy!

Just about every one in Omaha is Catholic. It's a big Catholic town. In Omaha, you are either a Catholic or something else. Maybe a Methodist.

Or Lutheran.

One of the biggest arguments in Omaha during the tourney was which cheerleaders were hotter - USC song girls or the pole dancers from UNLV.

Too bad we couldn't have had closer games. Wisconsin makes SIU's offense look like a run-and-gun scheme. Based on comments made by NCAA officials, it sounds like Omaha has a really good chance to become a regular part of the rotation, which bodes very well for MVC teams as Creighton fans will continue to buy up all the seats.

Speaking of cheerleaders, my section was worried the 300lb cheerleader from Cal State would dent the floor with one of her jumps. When she came down it was just as loud as when Chalmers face planted.

why are you on sabatical?

Wife was sick of me on the internet. She said I couldn't go a week without it. She raised my competitive spirits. I went the week and kept on going....

SHE WAS WRONG!!!! SHE OWES ME A LITTLE ATTENTION BELOW THE EQUATOR!!!!

It's nice to be right, but I just don't miss it so much. I'll get back in the groove in a week or so. I promise.

Sounds like Omaha has a good chance of getting future NCAA tourneys:

It may not have been a slam dunk, but Omaha's hosting of the NCAA men's basketball tournament last week came pretty close.

Local sports officials said Monday that the NCAA was impressed with the organization at the Qwest Center Omaha and the overall experience for the athletes.

That puts the city in a good spot to again host the tournament's opening rounds.

Omaha certainly proved it could fill seats. Of the eight initial sites, Omaha was one of only a few that sold out, Dixon said.
