Very much deserving, congrats Coach T!!! And in the words of Coach Turgeon, "Not bad for a team picked 5th!"

Altman coached without last season's POY, didn't he?

I would have to say Turgeon did a great job this year, he kept his team playing that same ball all season. Dana and Mac each had strong seasons, but both have had some rough patches as well, but I think it had to be between Dana and Turgeon, as is the conferences way who ever wins regular season title gets POY and usually COY, not that Miller or Turgeon is undeserving, the both have done very well this year. Congrats to WSU and Coach Turgeon.
Also had to think Jim Les would be in there, pulling together the Braves to make a run, but probably too little too late for COY.

Turgeon also coached without 4 starters from last year's team and managed to win a championship by 2 full games with a team picked to finish 5th. Get over your sour grapes already.

Turgeon replaced 4 starters, was picked to finish fifth, and kicked off two players during the season (granted one was a walk-on). The Shox won their first valley title in 23 years, and they avoided the bad conference loss and were the most consistent and best road team in the league. Dana did a great job and had to overcome some obstacles, but CU still has alot of talent behind the two that were hurt. The Miller pick might have been a result of the Shox winning the championship, but Turgeon deserved this award, hands down.

Yeah, but how do you give COY to a coach that has been sniffing Mark Turgeon's behind for the last 3 years? :o :o :o :o
This season wasn't a cake-walk for MT either. With players being released from the team (key 6'6" reserve guard), a walkon getting substantial minutes in several games...
You can't punish Mark Turgeon for being an excellent recruiter and team manager thus not suffering bubble-bursting losses like Creighton did this year. :o :o :o
It's a great day to be a Shocker!
It's a great time to win the Valley during possibly it's strongest season in history! (Founded in 1907, the Missouri Valley Conference is the nation's second oldest Division I collegiate athletic conference.)
It's a great time to be Mark Turgeon, the Valley's BEST coach of the year!

Then give him the Steve Alford Most Likely to Wish You Hadn't Recruited From the Bottom of the Barrel Award.

By the looks of the voting tally, I would say MT got all but about 4-6 of the eligible votes for first place. Only 9 of 40 did not give him their 1st place vote. WSU coach(es) and media could not vote for MT, and that accounts for 3-4 non-MT votes.
Talk about a landslide!

You are absolutely right. Darren Brooks was not on CU's roster this year.
(I'm going to feel really stupid if my recollection is wrong!)

i still think altman is more deserving...
jays were a matt breur missed three pointer from winning the conference - if the season had played out as it did - with mb missing that shot - jays win the regular season as they had the tie breakers against wsu then...
i do recognize that MT is a fine coach - and had an outstanding season - but wsu truly didn't have to change gears 16 times during the seson as DA did.
DA has had many fine seasons coaching the jays - but those of us that have been following and watching jays hoops for a number of years - recognize this for what it was - his finest coaching job to date.
as it is - congrats to coach T...

Creighton was also a Tolliver missed baseline jumper (which would have forced OT) from perhaps a three-way tie for 4th and 4 games behind a 15-3 WSU.
Ifs and buts.
Lost 4 starters, picked 5th, wins by two games. The way the season played out, you can't really argue with the selection.

Well, you can argue, but you just look really stupid doing it.

Great logic!!!! how bout thinking this way however
-one last second shot away from being swept by the shockers
-Tolliver being 3 times the player he was last year and porter steping in makes up for the loss of Funk (although only funk can get away with the "bull drive" for the bucket and 1)
-Maybe that loss to Ill ST wasn't a good coaching move
-All shot made during a game count, even with 1 second left
-ALSO TRY PULLING YOUR HEAD OUT, I FEAR YOU MIGHT SUFFICATE

His finest coaching job to date was only good enough for a distant second-place finish? Really?

cmon - isaso - you're smarter than that...
yes - it's his best coaching job - to get what he has gotten out of this very flawed, beat up team - is nothing short of amazing...it's his best job
it's a helluva lot easier to win when you have a kyle korver leading you - and a three year starter at pg - and no impacting injuries...
that wasn't the case this year
as i said - congrats to MT - he did a fine job - but to completely dismiss the job DA did this season (as some of you shocker folks have done here) - just shows how little you know about the game and the impact a coach has.
