Fun stuff to read, but I don't take much any of that seriously. CM looks to be a good choice for MSU, but so do all coaches when they first get hired. And though Keno left Drake, I wouldn't be so qucik to discount them. With the MVC's best player returning and the foundation they have laid down, I don't think they are ready to surrender to anyone

Have no idea what the near future holds for Drake, but certainly the article suggests a similar expectation to the ones most of us have at Missouri State for ZO and his staff. Of course summer expectations are always high and often fade quickly with the reality of Nov/Dec. I appreciate the fact that this suggests a down the road payoff. The short term, this coming year, couldn't be a bigger uncertainty. Last years coaching changes and the immediate results couldn't paint a broader landscape of possibilities. But there are some obvious differences beyond a new coach and "sparkling new arena" that should start to be obvious by no later than the 09 season.
ZO and staff have already established themselves in both the St Louis and KC markets with 3 signees to date and at least being listed as possibilities on a number of 09 kids. We've gotten 2 quality D-1 transfers and turned down opportunities for a couple others. The number and level of recruits we are targeting seems higher which has already resulted in a projected 09 roster that is significantly taller along the frontline, quicker and more athletic on the perimeter than most recent Bear rosters. The 09 frontline already looks to go 6'11, 6'10, 6'9, 6'8, 6'8 compared to recent teams that had 1-2 players in the 6'8- 6'9 range and a penchant for 6'5-6'6 power forwards. And that's with 2 scholys still to be let for 08 and at least 3 more for 09.
Floods tornados and hail notwithstanding, it's been a pleasant Spring in this part of Missouri.

We don't know how good Drake will be this year...doubt we'll have a repeat of last year, but we think we've got some pieces. Josh Young and Bucky Cox are the foundation. Heemskirk returns and is playing well thus far in the summer league. Templeton mixes up on the inside and can really hit the three. Our question mark is point guard. Can Josh Parker or Craig Stanley create the chemistry we had last year? They are both certainly more athletic than Emmenecker but it would be hard to be as heady. The other question mark is Houston's replacement, who that will be and how they will do. We don't IMO have really good prospects for that...unless Phelps can find a diamond in the rough over the summer. We could be anywhere from first to fourth.

Surely it's understood the author is speaking of '09 and beyond, and not next year. Next year will be a down year most likely, but it is quite nice to hear and read, others seeing what fans of Missouri St. see.

To be picked out of every school in the country on the way up as one of two to buy long-term is encouraging to read needless to say. Just looking at the caliber of athlete we're bringing in already shows the future should be brighter in Springburg...:bears:

The question is not whether you are more athletic than your team last year, but whether you are more athletic than your competition???

Plus there are a lot of other factors that determine a real good baskeball player than athleticism.

Poo-poo all you want, but others are starting to see what MSU fans see.
