Appears that Missouri State has gotten a late 08 recruiting commit from a
PF from Taft High School in California. Dominick Brumfield has reportedly agreed to join the Bears for the upcoming 08 season. He is a 6'7, 210 lb power forward . Hard to get much info on him as he seems to have moved around abit, played AAU BB in Arkansas this summer and had some interest from Arkansas earlier.
Leaves Missouri State with one 08 scholy open for now, and we should hear on the Spencer Laurie elgibility by the coming week.

If Spencer Laurie doesn't get the extra year, do Bear fans expect the scholarship will just be saved for next season?

Thank you!

We have made the transition from being not very athletic to being VERY athletic in a short few months. Hobbs, McFarland, Mayhew and now Brumfield are all extremely athletic and much needed additions. We will be young in places but fun to watch.

Now wait a minute, we've heard for years on this very site that the Bears had some of the most athletic guys on Planet Earth which why they would always be so good in the conference.

It's hard to say at this point DoubleJay; if Spencer doesn't get his elgibility we actually will have 2 scholys still open as best we can determine. Although no announcement has ever been made, many of us assume that based on how many scholys have been referred to as open by the staff, that Will Creekmore and another player[ Ryan Jehle is most often conjectured] are not on athletic scholorship, but perhaps some other form of aid.

We will have 3 additional scholys open for 09 [ we had 4, Jerome Jones has taken 1] so if the other one is not filled[ 1 would have come open with Spencer being a sr] we will have 4 more still open for 09.

This has been a really productive start by this staff; although we lost 2 of the 3 previously committed recruits under Barry[ Holdman/ Bell-Holter] , they retained 6'10 Rhine, and have added 2 quality HS seniors, 2 prep school kids & 2 D-1 transfers, plus getting a much coveted first committ for 09.

We also have two rs kids from last year[Weems/ Creekmore] so as TN said we will be very young. The two D-1 transfers[ 6'11 Caleb Patterson from Colorado, and 6'1 Adam Leonard from E. Kentucky] will become elgible next year and give us some added experienced depth for a still young team.

Bear fans are extremely impressed that this amount of recruiting was possible in such a short time so late in the process w/o having to go with short term fixes via the juco route.

Wasn't the case last year which is why we had a crappy year but still managed to finish above your beloved team

Coach Martin and staff are to be commended for an outstanding recruiting job - late start...2 defections, and all. Well done.
