I am going to have to go with Mckenna at Indiana state as they have the best chance to pull off a "Drake" like year.:fear:

If by "best chance" you mean because ISU routinely finishes at or near the bottom of the league (a la Drake) then I would agree with you.
Frankly, I can't see anyone but Altman winning this year. Perhaps Martin has a chance to pull one out of a hat in Springfield.
My guess is that unless MSU, EU, ISUb, WSU, UNI, or BU finish in the top 2, then Altman is going win because DU, ISUr and SIU should be decent and I can't see any of them beating CU (in the standings).

I like the sentiment, but with all the newcomers, we're still a year away. Keep your eye on 09-10...

I think if not this year, in the near future it will be Marty Simmons at Evansville. Obviously the Purple Aces can improve greatly making his chances better, but I thought his team played harder and with a different mindset than past years. The Aces were tougher defensively, had more athleticism and I like some of the young talent he's bringing in. Often you see a change in attitude before you see on the court success, and that's what I saw in the Aces last year. While justifiably Keno got most of the attention at Drake, and the success of Jank at ISUr was more tangible; I really thought Simmons , other than Keno, showed the most to me of the new coaches last year, and Keno's situation was tough to equate to a new coach given his history there.
I think those automatically relegating the Aces to 10th in the Valley might be surprised this year, although it might still be a year early for a real turnaround. Long range, I also like our guy, ZO; he's a tough minded dude who's got good young coaches around him. He is attracting a differnt type and level of recruit to Springfiled , so now it becomes an issue of his preparation and in game coaching. By 09 we will be a significantly bigger, quicker and more athletic team than any I can remember. You know in any job you don't really realize what you're not doing till someone comes in and shows you what you could've been doing.

Let's try a fill-in-the-blank exercise here:
I also like our guy, Marshall; he's a tough minded dude who's got good coaches around him. He is attracting a different type and level of recruit to Wichita, so now it becomes an issue of his preparation and in game coaching. But we know Marshall is a proven D1 coach based on his 7 NCAA Tournament appearances and multiple conference titles. By September '08 WSU will be a significantly bigger, quicker and more athletic team than any I can remember(since the days when WSU was ranked #1 in the nation and advanced to the Elite 8). You know in any job you don't really realize what you're not doing until someone comes in and shows you what you could've been doing.
(Granted, what we were doing before was good enough to win a conference title, advance to the Sweet 16 and be ranked #8 in the nation, but I'm just sayin'.)
How about that? I even spelled everything right.<!-- / message -->

Marshall has one bad flaw.
He coaches Wichita State. The Valley can't stand that.

As long as Dana has been around, he probably has to win the league to get the COY award. If someone else wins the league, their coach will be the top candidate.

And you wonder why fewer and fewer people read/post valleytalk everyday.
On topic: Altman because he's the best coach, and he'll have the best team.

It also might have something to do with today being the 23rd of June and absolutely nothing is happening in the Valley. That, or we could start a thread about shoe sizes in the Valley. Better yet, we could discuss which player has the largest feet, nose and hands.

So why, with his big whatever, is Altman never able to get beyond 2nd base? In fact, he's only briefly visited 2nd base once in his entire career. Little 'ol Markie Turgeon nailed 1st base and 2nd base and slid into third on his first at-bat.
And bberilam - No, I don't wonder why fewer people read or post on VT every day. I'm concerned that you actually track that count though. Seriously, get a life. There's more to human life than being a hit-counter. Al Gore invented electricity and silicon for that reason.

Why are you getting so worked up? The kid (I'm guessing) has 10 posts to his name...jays11 may actually be referring to his age in his name. We don't know these things.
It's obvious to anyone who knows hoops that the Jays will be very good next season. Will that translate into a Coach of the Year win for Altman? Depends on how far the team goes I'd say. I wouldn't call him a lock but w/ the talent he has he should have high expectations...if those expectations aren't met then someone else could and should slide in to win coach of the year. After what happened at Drake last season, you just never know who might win it.
I'll agree w/ a previous poster regarding Coach McKenna...probably won't be this coming season but the season after he could be there in the end. Barring injuries, defections, etc...the Syc's only lose Jay Tunnell to graduation next season. RJ Mahurin takes his place...RJ will be a solid replace for Jay.

Okay, here's the rub, I'm like the most prolific poster on the board. I haven't kept too many secrets about where I live or whom I support. If anyone READS Valley Talk before posting, and moreover, feeling the need to start flaming threads, they would know that I DO NOT live in Wichita. Furthermore, they would know that I don't even live in Kansas and am NOT a Wichita State fan. And who on this board thinks I'm uptight? There are people that don't like me, but I'd be hard pressed to find many, if any, that think I'm uptight. I do some fishing and occasionally catch a few people, but I'm not uptight. What's even more funny, is the fact that Mr. Know It All jays11 has already called out Dawg_Tired as a Saluki.:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:
So I do a little fishing and I land jays11 for not knowing with whom he is debating and even the fanbase of the people in which he's arguing!!!:lol::lol:
I hardly got my hook in the water!:lol::lol:
At this point, any Shocker fan can feel free to tell mr jays11 the city and state in which I reside.
Talk about losing any and all credibility before you even have a chance to earn any!:clap::lol::clap::lol:
