Should Bradley forfeit all those games they won after he was "cleared" to play by win-at-all-costs Les?

Whats a "sage".......
BTW...LES had nothing to do with DR getting to play. That decsion came straight from the top....and , for the record, a woman is at the top.

Whoops! That's not what I said at all!
I remember now, I said "G U I L T Y"
I was about the only one. Then Braves fans got upset. Then they said I'd never live it down if I was wrong. Although I've spent the last 16-18 years surrounded by people that work in various aspects of domestic violence, from investigating, to treating victims to prosecuting, they said I had no basis for my opinion. They called me names and dug their heels in. It was too important that their star player played and his reputation wasn't tarnished. So what if a girl got a fat lip and bruises around her neck, this is Bradley Basketball dammit!!! So rather than fighting a mob, I said I said that I'd archive it. I did and then I dropped it.
I know sports are important to people, they are to me, but maybe we should be a bit more concerned about the safety of women than the outcome of a basketball game.
Bradley fans feel free to bomb away, I can take it.

I remember thinking you'd be vindicated by this decision. What fan base wouldn't want to believe their best player wasn't a POS?

In reality, I haven't been vindicated, it's a bad day any way you look at it, a woman got beat up. I would rather be wrong and have no woman battered. But when I first read the reports about Ruffin, I read them very closely and things didn't add up in his favor.
The problem is when it's your guy there is no way he did it, right!??! That's not just at Bradley, it runs the spectrum. If this was a Creighton, Drake, Southern Illinois, or any other guy for that matter, much of the fanbase would have reacted the same as Bradley fans.

In all fairness though, you and I know, at least I have come across a few, that some women are uncontrollable when they freak out, and the women, for the most part, know they can get away with a lot in that type of situation.
And some guys just react without thinking when attacked. Granted, Ruffin may have overreated in trying to control things, but many women put themselves into bad situations to begin with.
I don't advocate violence against women in any way, but some women do provocate it.

Mo...do you understand that if your daughter decided to flip out and beat on her dad and in your defending yourself OR in your attempt to "control" your daughter you grabbed her leaving marks and injuries you could be charged with domestic abuse and or battery.......
Danny didn't get pi$$ed and decide to beat the living shat out of some girl. He got in a situation very few of us ever are in and had no life experiences to draw upon as far as how to handle it. He was wrong for placing his hands on the women but NOT being in the situation I cast no judgement or at least as little as I can.
Had this been a true case of abuse no judge would have ever given him court supervision.....
Your entitiled to your opinion. I won't "scold' you as a BU fan. I respect peoples wide variety of views on this topic. This isn't about basketball to me allthough it is to some I'm sure. We all tend to defend "our own".
He put himself in a bad sitation and now he'll pay the price. He should have never let her in.
I'm still mystified why he didn't get a real lawyer.

None of that would happen because I don't put myself in that situation with my daughter and I have never put myself in that situation with a woman. I don't tollerate psychotic behavior from my daughter and I don't need to grab her to get her under control. Furthermore, I wouldn't date a psychotic woman. And yes, I know guys that have and you can see these psychos a mile away.

Hmm, this is a pretty sweet deal. 9 months court supervision? I'll divulge something for the sake of comparison--my only run-in with the law (from the wrong side of the table) was at the age of 20, when I pled guilty to underage drinking and was given a whole 18 months court supervision, a $400 fine and 20 hours of community service.
The thing about court supervision is, if you complete it successfully, you were technically never convicted. You can get it expunged, and the court will wipe your slate clean.
Would you take this deal, to avoid a trial, even if you liked your odds at winning?
Still some unanswered questions for me....

But never for MoValleyJudgeJuryandExecutioner, right? All he needs is a few article snippets to pass judgment.
If Ruffin used excessive force, he got a good deal. If not, he still got a pretty decent deal, one that I think a lot of falsely accused people would take.

Money was of no concern....alll those Bradley fans that only care about the fact he was a star would have paid for everything. In fact a few of us are going to perform his community service for him. I'm working hours at mothers without partners clinic....

First off, it was about Mikovio insinuating that based on his punishment for underrage drinking and comparing it to what Ruffin received, that underage drinking is worse than what Ruffin did, nothing else. I disagree. Based on age and income, I would say it's not. At 22, I could come up with $500 a lot quicker than I could come up with $800. I also had a lot more free time to do community service. As it is now, I could pay a $2,000 fine a lot easier than I could pay a $200 fine and try to come up with 80 hours for community service.
That said, wouldn't boosters paying fines violate some NCAA rules?

I guess since we equate a sentence with the heinousness of a crime, murder isn't that big of a deal. Afterall, it is possible to commit murder and only receive probabtion- even in Texas.

You can lead a horse to water...
No, that's not the point at all. The point is that Ruffin was charged with an offense generally considered worse (or, one that would spark more public outrage) than underage drinking--domestic battery--yet bargained it down below what an average underage drinking conviction will warrant.
Why do you think Ruffin got such a sweet deal? Because both sides knew that the jury could go either way. Neither side wanted it to go to trial so they found a compromise--one closer to the defense's demands than the prosecution's. That indicates to me Ruffin had the upper-hand.
BTW, about half of that fine is to pay the clerk's office (which means it's non-negotiable). And how do you know Ruffin's broke? Given his full scholarships he's less broke than I was after 7 years of college, I'll tell you that much.
Ruffin graduated, so the NCAA isn't gonna do squat.
I'm on the fence about the Melchiorre thing. It was 50 years ago, and he was caught point-shaving for a handful of games. I think he's the only #1 NBA Draft pick never to play. I think he's paid his debt, and then some....

Nope, I got your point. But I also understand the confusion you were intending to make by throwing in the underage drinking thing. It was pretty transparent, even coming from you. The fact of the matter is, you can't look at a sentence and determine the severity of the crime.
As for the plea, I think long ago we both agreed that this was how it would probably shake out. But I would question that Ruffin had the upper hand, it seems to me that it was about the standard plea deal for this type of first offense incident. Ruffin gets off lightly, the conviction can be expunged and he doesn't risk losing on a larger count. The prosecution wins because they can concentrate on more important things, they don't have the expense of taking this to trial, no risk of losing to a sympathetic jury and the courts have one less case on the docket.
That said, Ruffin did something wrong, he didn't hurt her too bad and the sentence is a good wake up call. He has the opportunity to put this behind him and at the same time, understand that he needs to keep his hands off women. As for him having money, he doesn't have the loans that I did, but I'm sure he probably doesn't have a large nestegg, either.

You disappoint me MVJ. Just when I thought you had a pretty good grasp on MVC history you post something like this? At Bradley its possible to have a job earning money and do community service at the exact same time. How you ask? Because no one expects you to really show up at the job Bradley sets up for you, yet they'll pay you anyway. If you need more background on this revolutionary program. read up on Patrick O'Bryant.

These were just accounting and timekeeping errors. Happens everywhere. A few minor mixups in accounting brought Worldcom and Enron down.
That said, I have never before heard a comparison attempted to equate a Minor in Possession charge with a battery charge. It was the strawman of all strawmen! Then again, MADD might take issue with me. That is, or they just might be a little conflicted.
