Blue Valley West’s Ubel picks Huskers

Blue Valley West basketball player Brandon Ubel has one more varsity season remaining, but he has already picked his next basketball court. He committed to play college basketball at Nebraska, saying: “It just felt right. I was sold right away.”

He said he also had offers from Drake, Illinois State and Utah State.

Ubel, a 6-foot-9 forward with perimeter shooting ability, averaged close to six points a game as a junior but came on during the summer AAU circuit.

How good could this guy be? Drake and Illinois State were battling two obscure midmajors for him.

A 6'9 high school player averaging under 6 points a game? Hmmmm....I guess that is why I am in the stands and others do the scouting and coaching.

He backed up Texas Tech recruit Robert Lewandowski as a soph. I didn't follow him last season.

He's shown A LOT of potential over the summer playing AAU. And that does a lot more for a recruit than his HS season. Just look at the kid from SIU. Apparently he has nice touch and range and can step out and hit from 3. I'd never heard of this guy until he popped up on Rivals under WSU after he verballed to Nebraska. But he has good size.
