The Redbirds filled their final scholarship for 2009-2010 with the 6' point guard from Chicago.

Bit surprised they didn't go for a big, but signs still point that they are still out recruiting.

It's been an interesting week for Redbird fans. By all accounts from top to bottom, we have an amazing coaching staff with a ton of combined experience so the fact that we were willing to commit to these kids this early in the process to me means that they must see something special with each one of them. More than anything, they must be ideal players for the type of system we're intending to run under coach Jank.

I'm not going to disagree about there being something special about the recruits that verballed. However, it isn't early for verbals. The evaluation periods are over and a number of recruits do not wait to take official visits before deciding. Creighton doesn't have a verbal yet. Look at their recruiting board. Just a joke I'm sure but one poster is wondering if Dana is going to get off the golf course this summer.

I know it's not too early however for Illinois State, this is extremely early. I cannot remember ever having every scholarship accounted for this early in the process. In recent years, we may get one or two commits in the fall signing period however there was always carry over into spring and even the summer before the season. Unless we lose a player or two, we're done recruiting for 09.

After reading that Chicago Sun Times blog, it looks like IL St. is fast becoming a MAJOR player on the Illinois recruiting front. All 3 of the players that signed with the Redbirds this week look to be BIG-TIME and make that program even tougher.

I'm impressed that yet another MVC school has tremendously raised the recruiting bar....not only going after top-notch talent...but SIGNING them. VERY COOL not only for IL St., but also for the entire Valley. Let's keep it going! :original:
