The Valley is going to need one to bring home all the new recruits! The question is, which Valley team lands the first "blue-chip" recruit of the 2006-2007 season? This post-season run has given Valley coaches so much ammunition is isn't even funny. Better lock in your season-tickets now friends, I'm predicting a surge in Valley attendance next year! And T.V.-time is going to continue to trend upwards!

The Valley is becoming more "hype-able" every single day.

I personally want to thank Dr. Tom for preparing us for Bruce Pearl's pressing-style defense. During the prelude to the game they discussed how Dr. Tom was Pearl's mentor.

As long as Dr. Tom is breathing and coaching at Drake, Drake will get better! Dr. Tom is a wiley old veteran and will definitely have a plan in place to help Drake reap some of this Valley love!

The Valley is becoming the "NEW" Conference USA.
Will the BCS teams now schedule us, or even be more scared to play????? Can't use the lame excuses about it being a lose/lose situation. I am interested to hear what the new excuses will be, I am hoping they will just start wanting to schedule some more Valley teams. Will ESPN play some more Valley games now??

I think the BCS teams need to start scheduling Valley teams. Avoiding them can only hurt their reputation. They have to understand that losing to a Valley team will not their recruiting or post season chances!

And yes, I can't see less than at least eight Valley games (not including Bracket Buster games if we even still participate in them) being shown on the [I]main[I] ESPN networks.

Heard Elgin on ESPN radio, and he said what the Valley needed to do was not to schedule BCS teams, but to get the top mids to play each other more often.

Hopefully, scheduling the so called big guys will become easier for everyone in the valley. Also, next year could be another banner year with most teams returning with a large portion of their teams intact.

thats not what Elgin said... Elgin said if the BCS schools do not want to play, its not a big deal. The Nevada's and Missouri States can just play each other more often.

Elgin never said the mid-majors shouldn't try to schedule them, because they should... but if they don't want to play us, it wouldn't kill the MVC, CAA and all the other Mid-Majors so long as we play each other.

What most likely will happen is scheduling BCS games at neutral sites IMO.
BCS schools don't want to play away games in extremely hostile environments. But they might play Wichita in Kansas City, UNI in Des Moines, Bradley in Chicago, SIU in St Louis, etc. Much like they are trying to do when playing other OOC BCS teams.

They can play Wichita in the new Downtown Arena here in a couple of years. That's about as neutral as KU playing neutral games in Kemper.

I absolutely love the idea of Valley-sponsored neutral-site doubleheaders. Take two Valley teams and have them both host BCS schools, back-to-back. One ticket for both games.

Creighton/Wichita hosting a couple Big Ten teams in KC;

MSU/SIU hosting Big 12 teams in STL;

Bradley/ILSU hosting SEC teams in Chicago;

Drake/UNI hosting Big East teams in Des Moines;

INSU/UE hosting ACC teams in Indianapolis.

I am convinced this is what killed MSU's bid. Air force "played two big east teams" albiet very low quality ones - thus meaning they had "beaten a bcs team."

I agree with his comments, though, that if bcs teams dont want to play, we can schedule others - i just dont know if it will count come tournament time.

Bleeds Maroon, actually, I like that idea a lot, a Valley doubleheader. Except a few fans, most schools' fans would probably stay and cheer for the other Valley team.

Besides doubling the ticket sales, that's the other benefit.

I think that even Illinois State and Bradley fans could root for each other's teams against a couple of BCS opponents. I know I could root for the Ugly Dawgs in that situation! :grin:

Bill Rowe made a big deal about the Bears "hosting a Big East team" this year. Unfortunately, that Big East team was South Florida, which is a Big East team in name only. The Bulls couldn't beat TAMU-CC in the semis of the Cupcake Classic.

That's why the scheduling worries me so much. Everyone and their mother knew that South Florida was going to suck this year. Well, *almost* everyone...

After visiting Shockernet today I was worried Coldblooded went missing...I didn't see any posts from him there (at least in threads started or last to post.) I was worried he was in shock, in a stupor or both...or even worse, heart attack for what's gone on the past few days. Good to see you're still alive Cold.

Obviously WSU and Bradley are going to be able to drive this run home out on the recruiting trail, but this has the opportunity to benefit even the rest of us in the league.

I know for those of us that's followed Creighton's recruiting, we've had some shots at some really well-regarded kids but have fallen just short. CU's had the very highly regarded coaching staff, the fine facilities, enviable fan support, streak of postseasons, etc. What this helps us, and everyone else in the league do, is show to recruits the benefit of playing in a strong league such as ours. You're going to be playing tournament quality teams throughout the league schedule. Our teams make the postseason in bunches and are more than capable of making serious noise when they get there.

The rising tide raises all boats. IMHO, for Creighton and the rest of us, there are no negatives to what the Shockers and Braves are doing right now.

Thanks Eddie! I really have very little work to do right now. The guard has changed a bit here recently in the Valley and those that used to cause unsufferable irritation are busy licking their wounds.

Remember, C0|db|00ded is just a function of a basic law of physics: "For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction".

I want to see more big men in the Valley next year and that goes from top to bottom!

Cold, if that was actually true, you would have a whole lot of reaction coming your way. Unsufferable irritation is definitely experienced both ways with you.

That being said, you have been much better about giving the Valley props in light of your team streaking at the right time in the NCAA's. I mean, even though you didnt do it here, Joey had you quoted saying that SIU prepped you for ugly defense in the tournament. Before your Sweet 16 giddiness, I doubt you would ever type something like that.

One thing no one can take from the Valley(or WSU) this year: The first 4 points of the entire tournament were scored by none other than Paul Miller. Now that is cool.

Oh, I get all the reaction I could ever desire.. and then some. Unfortunately those of you that haven't been around ValleyTalk as long as I have, cannot grasp the big picture. C0|db|00ded was created in response to unbearable SIU-C fans from long long ago. Now that SIU-C has started slipping into the abyss that RDR has so aptly pointed out the chirping has quieted. C0|db|00ded's long walk into the sunset is clearly in view.

Nothing C0|db|00ded ever says is an accident. C0|db|00ded knows that he has many fans that follow his work on VT as well as ShockerNet. The fact that you are surprised that I would say such a thing shows you really don't understand C0|db|00ded at all. Between some of my "performances" I have given SIU-C congratulations and consolations (like when they laid an egg in Alaska). I have always been a fan of Bradley and Creighton basketball and that has nothing to do with "Sweet 16 giddiness". I do disparage (or poke fun at) Creighton slightly due to the "physical law" I made mention of earlier. Creighton fans can at times rival SIU-C fans in regards to arrogance and stupidity.

In conclusion it's been a great year for Valley basketball and the fun is just getting started!
