This is a minor point, I suppose, but I find it telling--and annoying, of course--that yesterday's victory by Wichita St. was written about in terms of disbelief. I don't think it was just making a play on the Shockers' name when the headlines read, "Wichita St. Shocks Tennessee"; other headlines used words such as "stun" and described this as an upset of major proportions. I find this really irritating because:

(1) Is it really such a shock for a #7 seed to beat a #2 seed? Shouldn't be--look at today's Georgetown-Ohio State game, in which a 7 knocked off a 2: why do I have this sneaking suspicion that game won't be couched in terms of a major upset?

(2) The best team in the #6-rated (RPI) conference beats the #1 team in the #5-rated conference, and it's a BIG SHOCK?

Dumb. Ingnorant. G-r-r-r-r-r-r.

Yes, I know how tiresome the whole "we don't get any respect" line is getting, but...Sheesh! We don't! What tools the talking heads are, eh?

We'll have to try and take the same path next year, so we can convince them......just need to win games like this more often. Unfortunately our mascot - Shockers - is used too often when we win big games. Even when we're favored to begin with.

The 'Shocks' when used in connection with a win like the one over Tennessee doesn't really bother this fan too much.

Unless you change your name to Bashers, get used to it.
Newspaper people are stupid. They look for the easiest puns for their headlines.
If Wichita were to win three national titles in a row you'd find some headline using "Shock" in it.

Yes, I get that they like to use "shock" in the headlines, as I mentioned in my first post. But go beyond that, to the lead, and you find words like "stun," "upset," "surprised," etc.

And sure enough, I didn't see so much of that re: G-town's win over OSU.
