Our man COLD has finally cracked!
After preaching all year how horrible it is to watch some of the defensive efforts around the Valley, he now concedes it has helped Wichita and Bradley.
Don't start flaming me, my man ... I'm all for the Shockers right now. Just had to have a little fun with ya!:shockers: :braves:
From COLD on ShockerNet ...
I believe the Valley defense, and more importantly SIU-C's defense has prepared WSU and Bradley well for whatever they will see defensively in the NCAA's. I have already stated over on ValleyTalk how Bruce Pearl's trapping style was taken directly from his mentor Dr. Tom which we learned how to handle this year. As ugly as some of our Valley games have been, they have been a good omen thus far for teams that actually have a potent offense ala Bradley and WSU. It's almost like our two teams have new life breathed into them because they are so happy that they can actually run an offense without having someone constantly in their faces for 40 minutes. We are used to playing SIU-C where their main goal is to not even allow us to get our motion started.. period.
That being said, I'm not a fan of ugly, defensive games.. however they certainly seem to be paying dividends against the pretty-boys of the BCS!
It's truly a great day to be a Shocker!

Cold is correct. His Shockers won on a last second tip in against Drake. The Dr. Tom Experience definitely helped the old Shockers. Teams always seem to play better offensively after a night out with the dawgs too. :jays: :bears: :braves: :shockers: :valley:

I agree that there is a lot of value to having played against trapping and pressure defenses like Drake and SIU. Everyone in the MVC (even WSU) plays better defense than I have seen by non-MVC teams in the tourney; for example, even though Illinois State had a bad year, their defense was quite good.
There is one important point being overlooked which someone (Cold, I think) made. The two Valley teams making a run in the tourney have skilled, big centers (Miller & POB), which is not typical for Valley teams. I think this factor cannot be ignored. For next year, Bradley should be in good shape with POB and WSU has a big question with at least two 6'10" guys (King, R. Bradley) who need to prove themselves; I don't recall the status of the other Valley schools.

WSUfan, you are assuming that POB isnt buffing up his NCAA resume' to make the jump to the NBA. All any of us have heard all year about POB is that the scouts have been following him around the valley. Once all that money gets dangled in his face after this years tourney, will Jim Les be able to "recruit" him to stay one more year? I think that will be his toughest sell to date.

Jim Les has proven that he can recruit his arse off unless he is just a one-hit wonder. I can't imagine he could get this lucky.

He's not ready for the NBA. Then again, if Bradley knocks off Memphis who knows. After his junior year it wouldn't surprise me though if he leaves early, especially if he continues to improve.
