I am writing a column for ISU's campus newspaper on how the Valley has validated itself as a major conference, but I need some help. What was the reason for Patrick O'Bryant's suspension earlier this season?

He got overpaid for a summer job he worked. The money has/was all paid back to the company.

Basically O'Bryant was put on salary during his summer job at a local company. He went to a couple of basketball camps and what not and missed some weeks of work and they didn't adjust the salary those weeks to show he didn't work. He got suspended because of the extra benefit rule. As soon as BU found out about it, they reported the violation and he and Will Franklin both paid all of the money back. From what I understand, it was some guy at the company being lazy and not wanting to track hours worked on a weekly basis so he put them on salary to make it easier on himself.

BU didn't find the mistake. The NCAA auditor did.

A lot of people dropped the ball on this.
