Slid into K.C. on a blustery March day in the heartland. What do I see, NAIA banners in the old barn across the street from the Radisson. Open the fish wrap and ole Lorenzo is on the front.
"No.7 OKC, 23-9 Lorenzo Gordon, a burly 6-7 senior forward from St. Louis has attracted attention from at least 13 NBA franchises. Gordon who averaged 23.9 pts p g transferred after one season at Ill. St."
How good was this guy?, why did he leave? I remember seeing him thinking, man I don't want to see him for three more years.
Just thought I would drop a line, get to squeeze in another "final four" to get my bass'e'ball jones.
Curious to see if they serve beer at NAIA events. (the Qwest will not serve beer at the NIT in Omaha-Miami/CU)...Later

Do you have a link to that story?
Gordon left because he flunked out of school.

The reason he wasn't suited up for the birds' this season is because there's this little thing called academics that goes along with the hoops. That's the part that got him in Normal.
His absence absolutely killed ISU this season. With his post offense alone they would have been a problem for everyone on a nightly basis with the way the rest of that team was playing defense. Instead, just look at the record.
Moser's really had some bad luck there with Gordon, Justin Dentmon who verballed but then went preps and to Washington and then J.P. Batista who was close until choosing the Zags'. And there are a few others.

Are you sure it wasn't from NFL teams? Haha, he's better suited to be a tight end, like Pollard was after playing basketball at Bradley. He's more like 6'5", although he can put the ball in the bucket. He was booted out of here though for really bad grades.

Amazing, how Gordon gets kicked out of ISU for academics, but thugs like Iverson (Georgetown) don't.
I guess this makes Ill State a more prestigious school than many highly regarded east coast institutions?
I think I'm going to show my boss my diploma and hit him up for a raise.

He had around 30 points, headed to the final NIT championship game Tuesday night against Tex Wesly.
He couldn't hit anything further than 6' away but looked strong as a bull. He reminded me of a Mike Grimes/Larry House from a few years ago.
I don't think he rested the whole semi-final game.

That almost sounds like a place that serves breasts instead of wings.

It's quite a titillating experience.

With Gordon, we lost him to academics. That's the worst thing about a JUCO transfer, is that they don't have a lot of time to build themselves up. Gordon is not a bright person.
As for Dentmon, he signed an LOI here, as did Dodie Dunson. The one who verballled and left was Je'kel Foster who went to Ohio St. We were in the final 2 for Batista, but he chose Gonzaga.

Just think if Dentmon hadn't blown up at the state tournament, he probably would still be in Normal running the show. That is right on the LOI - faulty memory I suppose.
The other huge loss for Moser we tend to overlook was Marcus Arnold, a guy he actually had. That's back during the house cleaning days, but he didn't expect him to bolt.
Seriously, has anyone been as snake bit as Moser over the last couple of years with gaining and keeping talent.
That may be changing with Hill and Eldridge. Should he ever get some guys there lookout in Normal, it's not going to take long.

Unfortunately, someone told Arnold that he would be better off playing SF...well, after Arnold took it to Illinois in their own house, Weber decides to bring him aboard and he gets mostly mop-up minutes now but definitely not at SF. He could have been a potential POY in the Valley if he didn't pick up fouls easily-which he still does.

Arnold does play about 8 minutes a game for U of I and will never be more than a role player.........

Lo Go failed to seal the deal, OKC is the National NAIA runner up in dramatic fashion.
All he did was post up, no dribble-penetration. He's not tall enough to post up in the big boy league, he did play great defense, but had no offense outside of 6'. He will probably be a Dev. Leag. all star Euro trash journeyman...bit I like his style...ust wish he was about 4" taller. Seems like a cool cat.
Time to head the In & Out burger, for a few beers, laughs, what have you.

excerpt from the KC Star
Although Hunt averaged 20.6 points in the tournament, teammate Evan Patterson was selected the tournament’s most valuable player. Though Patterson had just 14 points on Tuesday night, he did smother Oklahoma City All-American Lorenzo Gordon, holding the NAIA’s second leading scorer to just 10 points —14 below his season average and 15 below his average in the first four games of the tournament.
Texas Wesleyan, playing a matchup zone, fronted Gordon, who is 6-7, 240 pounds, with Patterson, 6-7, 225 and a guard — usually Hunt — who would give him help. Gordon took just nine shots and was so frustrated when he received the ball down low, he usually kicked the ball outside to a teammate.
“Gordon’s a load,” Patterson said. “He’s a great player. He outweighs me by a couple of pounds, but mentally if I could keep battling and battling and battling him, it would work out for us at the end.”
