Tough loss for the Bluejay nation, but you have to be very proud of your team for dealing with and fighting through the injury bug that hit you this year.
Your guys certainly deserved a better fate than to have the refs steal a game from you.
In any case, I expect the Bluejays will be back next year as strong as ever while contending for the MVC Title and should be back into the Big Dance.
Way to battle this year! Very inspirational.

couldn't believe what i just saw...
it was the worst officiating i have ever seen at the end of a game
with 2.6 to go - call a very very very questionable blocking call on watts - should have been a charge or no call at worst
miami makes one of two - jays get ball
inbound johnnie gets it short of half court - gets off a decent three look - while he is being tackled - literally
no call - altman who is always composed chased across the court after the officials
it was brutal
jays didn't play well - but to be in it - and get absolutely jobbed - i am sick

Creighton just got royally screwed. I am so angry right now...I have never seen Coach Altman or any of our fans react like that. I like to think that we are good sports and for fans to throw stuff...wow. I feel so bad for our guys...to fight back like that and then have two very very bad calls made that ends their season...
Oh and the Miami player who shoved one of the CU dance team girls...that was not necessary at all. I hope CU files a complaint.

03-20-2006, 09:35 PM
Wow! That's unfortunate in that it takes a bit of the luster off of a historic week in the Valley. Good to see that Altman took this tournament seriously, in that there are a lot of teams that want nothing to do with the NIT. That said though, it was still a great season by Creighton, and they will only be a lot stronger next year.
Well, still plenty of bball left, and let's hope that Missouri St can continue to carry the NIT flag! At least they are winning the close games!

No less than 50 plastic bottles and other things are thrown on the court at ref that made a block call on Watts after the play was over for about 2 seconds. Ball had already hit ground and players were fighting over it when he called the block. And then didn't make a call as Mathais is fouled so hard he does not even get the final shot off. Ref is escorted off court while being pelted by 5 cops as he has Dana Altman, some of his assistants, and Jimmy Motz chasing him. Local radio is saying fix may have been in. They gave names of refs and said investigate any connection to the ACC. IT WAS THAT BAD. AND THIS IS WITH NO BOOZ. No booz and that reaction.

Ladies and gentlemen.
Most of the time I don't want to hear it about refs. It generally comes from fandom's myopia. That includes from Creighton fans. Most of the time we're full of hot air about refs.
I cannot even describe what happened there. This is beyond awful and, yes, how Dana acted is probably all you need to know about how amazingly awful this was.
I can't even put this into words. You don't end a kid's career like this. This was officiating violence.

i can't even begin to describe what happened. let's just say that in all my years, i have never seen cu fans react like that. normally we are good sports, but people were throwing things...
yes, the jays did not play their best ball the first half. but to come back and have officiating decide a game like that...it is heartbreaking. i feel so bad for our guys. after watching replays on the news, i don't necessarily think that cu fans are in the wrong here. both calls were very iffy. either way, stuff should not have been thrown...we are better fans than that.
i just want to thank the rest of the valley for their support in the postseason. good luck to bradley, wsu, and msu in your games! may the shots fall in your favor and may your refs will be better than ours were tonight!

As a non-Jays fan...he was certainly not tackled. It was a very close call. Personally, I think it was very stupid on the Miami defender to try and get in front of Matthies and probably would have awarded the shots to him. The defender should have let Matthies get off a running shot that would have a tough chance to go in. It was horrible defense by Miami.
As for the block/charge call, you can clearly tell in the video that he shuffles his feet and body bumps the guy...sorry but that's a block.
However, I think it is pretty bad when you're throwing garbage on the court. That's just bad...

Yes, in the super slo-mo he's shuffling his feet, but is he moving toward the offensive player? Is contact made before the shot is taken? I don't think it should be a block or a charge, it's a no call... let the players decide, especially in crunch time.
Even if you determine it is a foul, I don't have a problem with it if the ref calls it right away, but he waits for the shot to miss before he blows the whistle, that is where I take exception.

Just watched it--the block/charge could go either way i guess or be a no call, but how can you not call the foul at the end?? The fact that the refs we're running as fast as they could to get off the court even before people started throwing stuff says to me they knew they got it wrong.
--edit: actually I just watched it again and I can't figure out why he doesn't ge tthe shot off--the defender's let arm isn't anywhere near his arms, and the right arm doesn't touch him. Maybe he got bumped, but it doesn't explain why he loses the grip on the ball like thath--I think he was trying to draw the foul and figured he had a better shot at getting the foul than making the shot. Not saying he wasn't fouled with the body, but there was definitely some embellishment there. HArd as hell to see it at full speed though.
