Streaming link is normally found at radiospringfield.com (http://www.radiospringfield.com); it's not there tonight, so the NIT blockade apparently applies to non-televised games too. :ranting:

Oh, this is rich. Little Tommy Penders just said that the quotes were taken out of context, and that "some imbecile writer" in Springfield wrote the quotes wrong, and that the "hatred" in the building was due to some writer who "should be writing for Al-Jazeera". "That kind of journalism is not something that is needed in the United States. If that's what you have to do, shame on you."
"No one has pushed harder for the Missouri Valley Conference than us."
This guy is an absolute lying piece of trash. I can't wait for the entire transcript of this diatribe to end up in the newspaper. What a colossal loser. I hope that we never play Houston again, because there's no reason to allow an organization that could let something like that be spoken on behalf of a university any shred of credibility.

Tom Penders was MAD in the post-game press conference. I wish KTXR had the archive up so everyone could go listen but he basically just called the News-Leader writers amateur hacks because they "stirred the crowd into a frenzy" over comments he claims he DIDN'T make!!! He actually said that NO ONE has praised the Missouri Valley more than him all year!!!!!! Then he went on to quote himself supposedly stating that Conference USA should mirror itself like the Valley, that he said all year that the Valley should get 4 and he hopes 5, blah, blah, blah and bashed the News Leader staff for fabricating a story & misquoting him.
Hey Tom:
I think it was your OWN beat guy who wrote the Houston Chronicle article in which you said:
"I think the Missouri Valley conference is good, but I don't know who's talking about that (five or six bids) and in what bar (the discussions are being held)," said Cougars' coach Tom Penders. "There are at least three teams in that league that I think have a legitimate (claim to an NCAA berth). I don't know about four or five or whatever.
"I don't want to belittle theirs, but I'm just saying that if there are legitimately three or four Missouri Valley teams that are being considered, then there definitely should be three or four from our league."
Uh...that sounds nothing like what you said in the press conference.

I just heard the Billy Tubbs resigned as BB coach there and will stay on as AD.
Ironically, Nathan Bilyeu was originally headed to Lamar on a basketball scholarship. They fired their coach, hired Billy Tubbs, and Tubbs and Nate basically didn't want each other. Lamar let him out of his letter of intent, Nate walked on for his "hometown" Bears, and the rest is history.

I was at the game last night. Penders was booed by everyone in HSC when he was announced. I've never seen a college basketball team (Houston) put all 5 guys behind the 3-point line and bomb away the entire game. They shot 43 three pointers making 12. Their defense averages 20 steals a game and that is why it was such a close game. Barry made a great adjustment at halftime to zone which stifled the 3-point shot. TP was outcoached by Barry for probably 3/4 of the game. It was the loudest crowd of the season and we stood for the last 8 minutes of the game. This doesn't change anything about our feelings for getting left out of the NCAA though.:bears:
