Per the great suggestion of cpacmel, let's use this thread to write a quick note, a long letter, or whatever you want to the Commissioner letting him know how much we appreciate all he has done to pump up the Valley this year....especially not backing down to those who would like to belittle the league.
If you would, please also send a copy of what you post here to elgin@mvc.org. I really think we need to let him know that we are very happy with how he has represented ALL of our schools.
Post away!

Doug:
There are commissioners, and then there are commissioners. While I've been a critic of you whenever the subject of television packages come up, that's pretty petty when it all comes down to this: you are about to become one of the first commissioners in history who has lead a conference from mid-major to major conference status.
You have turned the Valley into a large-scale entity with high-quality basketball and a genuine feel that we Valley fans are a part of something big. While we maintain our humble roots, we all feel that we have the capacity to be nationally recognized, and I'm eternally glad that you feel the same way too and are willing to do what it takes to do so.
May you continue to be our commissioner for years to come. You're doing terrific job. You've made me a believer.
Now let's work on a great TV package, eh? (just kidding)
Thankfully yours,
Marc W.

Dear Mr. Elgin,
I spent many years doubting whether you were leading this conference in the direction it needed to go. I was an unrelenting critic of yours during much of the entire decade of the '90's, which coincided with some of the worst years I have endured as a Shocker fan and alum.
During the past few years, and particularly in the past week, any lingering doubts I clung to have completely evaporated. You have done it all for this league, from defending it to marketing it and everything in between.
Never have I been more proud to hold degrees - and season tickets - from a Missouri Valley Conference member institution.
Thanks for being on the sidelines of our NCAA tournament games, and supporting our league and our schools as they carry the MVC torch into competition against members of other conferences.
Your efforts - and those of the entire MVC staff - have been sincerely appreciated.
Very best of regards -
Ken N.

Great stuff guys.
WEDNESDAY March 22nd is being declared Doug Elgin Appreciation Day.
Like Bearmaniac has said above, I am suggesting everyone send Doug an email on WEDNESDAY just to say THANKS.
Thank him for whatever you want.
Personally, I am going to thank him for NOT LETTING PEOPLE LIKE PACKER AND NANTZ RUN OVER THE CONFERNCE and getting CBS to cover the Championship game.
It's a very informal thing, but we really want to flood Doug's inbox with positive thoughts and thanks you's.
Elgin works hard and the only time he hears from us is when we are complaining about something.
Let's show HIM we appreciate his effort.
THANKS.

Hey everyone.
You probably have heard, but if you haven't today is the day we are encouraging all the message boards to send Doug Elgin an email thanking him for doing such a good job.
You can say whatever you want in the email. I thanked him for standing off for us as a conference, when Media guys were ripping us to shreds.
I also thanked him for getting our name out there.
Please take a minute today and send him an email, thanking him for something.
Too often he only gets the negative emails from us, about officials and TV deals, etc.
I appreciate your time and effort on this.
Thanks again
Cpacmel
