Birds won 8-4 over the boys from UNI. Birds had some defensive lapses but did better taking advantage of UNI's walks and HBPs than UNI did taking advantage of ours. Seemed like the teams combined for about 15-20 walks and HBPs.

Panthers win game 2, 2-1. Great game by both starting pitchers and the relievers for each team. UNI held their errors down and won, something that will be the cavaet to whether they win or lose games. Some solid defensive plays also. Should be an interesting rubber match.

Redbirds take the series 2-1 with a dramatic 8-6 comeback win. Birds scored 4 runs in the 8th thanks to 4 walks and timely errors by the Panthers.

No, just like sharing information with fellow Valley baseball fans. I love reading about what happens in other games so why not get some info. out there for others.
On a side note, UNI will live and die by their defense. If not for numerous errors, they would have taken this series. Some teams can commit a few errors and still win, UNI is not one of them.

Well, I appreciate your time to post this information. Not a baseball fan but I enjoy seeing the outcomes of the games. Congrats to the Redbirds!

Thanks Dome,
I will say, it was a tough series. ISU was picked 8th (although interesting story behind that) and UNI 9th in the preseason. Both teams got some good pitching, ISU just committed less errors. When UNI played solid defense, they beat us in a great pitching duel. You have the offense to compete with anyone, its just your defense that will determine if you win or lose the games. I will say that UNI is a very classy baseball program from what I have seen.

Sorry, that was a bit rood. I was joking. Anyway. I think our baseball program is gonna get dumped pretty soon. We lose a lot of money. We dont play on campus, we play in a minor league stadium in Waterloo, which is like a decent drive from campus. So no students go, and it costs them money to rent out the stadium. Not to mention, we really arent very good.....ever.

I might have seen the future of UNI baseball last weekend in Cedar Falls: NBCA club baseball. UNI's club played Iowa State on UNI's crappy on-campus field (and was getting beat when I left). Too bad; for a couple of years UNI handled Iowa pretty well and seemed to be the top college baseball program in the state.
I was surprised when UNI stated playing at Riverfront, since it's well past its prime. Needs lots of $'s to be decent again. Hope the rent's been really cheap, otherwise the money would have been much better spent on a new campus field.
