Both teams struggling from the floor in the first half (where have we heard that before?). Both under 40% in FG's. Chaney had 10 points at halftime for the Bears. Panthers have come out with a 5-0 start in the second. They lead 26-23. Missouri State has missed 4 open 3's so far in the half.

37-25 Panthers with 12:40 to go in the game. MSU is shooting horribly in the 2nd half. UNI leads the second half, 16-2 !

WOW--the refs are really letting these guys play--multiple muggings on both ends of the floor (or so it seems)! Under 12 timeout--still 37-25 for Northern Iowa. The Panthers are playing with much more composure on offense than the Bears. Missouri State is starting to panic when they've got the ball. Just slow it down guys, and continue to play decent defense, and you could get back in this thing. No doubt, UNI's shooting has been much, much better in the second half.

Wow! UNI putting on a whooping over MSU tonight. UNI on a 26-9 run in the second half as UNI has opened up a 47-32 lead with under five minutes left.
Now I know MSU is pretty much a lock for the NCAA's, but a lopsided loss might keep the door open slightly for a snub. I hope it doesn't happen, because I can't see a team with a top 25 RPI left out of the field. But since MSU has fewer quality wins than some other Valley bubble teams, you never know what may happen.
Btw, UNI winning tonight is what the Valley needs to keep the "drive for five" (or six) alive. I just hope MSU makes it respectible before the end of the game.
All I have to say is that Creighton may be in some trouble. They have the resume, but they are limping (literally and figuratively) into the postseason. They will have a long week to wait.

Well, somebody's gonna get jobbed by the selection committee. It's just a matter of who it will be. I'm not convinced about Bradley or Southern Illinois getting in just yet. Either of them will probably have to win the tournament to leave no doubt about it, but the loser will not go. That's as of now. It could all change after Saturday's semi-finals. It could change after Sunday's title game, and it could change next week as other conferences have their post-season love-fests. UNI has been very impressive in the second half. They really turned it around, and MSU could not respond. 52-40 Panthers withe 1:27 to go.

I agree. This time of year it's important to not give the selection committee a reason to exclude you. MSU, UNI and WSU are locks. I think CU is in, but we'll have a nervous wait for them. As much as I hate to say it, Bradley and Southern playing for the MVC title with a Bradley win is probably our best chance of getting the greatest number of bids. If that doesn't happen, I'll settle for UNI running the table. ;)

Sorry Bears, it was a great run of 11 years winning the opening round, but I liked the little payback for the loss at the Dome, and the loss last year first round. As was said above I hope the Selection Committee can be objective because MSU is one of the best teams in the country. I mean the Bears were in it nearly all game with their 3 best scorers shootin 0/14. With that kind of bench play you can play with anyone.
The Panthers finally came out of the slump in the second half. Great to see Brooks find his shot again.
Grant dominated as usual. And I really liked the coaching move of putting Jacobson at PG. He really ran the offense and the team well, although he needed to drive more and not settle for so many long threes.
It was a great game and tomorrow holds even more great MVC action.
Congrats Panthers, Bears lick your wounds and get ready to win in the NCAAs.

Good work, UNI. You played at about 50% for most of the game, and did great. McDermott was fantastic in the second half, and coached circles around Hinson.
MSU's in the NIT. They gave the committee an excuse, and they're going to run with it. I should be happy that Hinson and his boys got this far, because they definitely overachieved their talent, but this is probably as good as it gets. They were 20 minutes away from the NCAAs, and absolutely collapsed into a quivering mass in the second half, and the world saw it. It is perfectly clear to everyone who watched this game that the Bears are not an NCAA-caliber club. I have a hard time believing that a team with a top-20 RPI isn't going to get an at-large, but I trust my eyes a lot more than that number, and my eyes saw a road NIT team tonight. Probably either SLU or Okie State.

Does that mean we start seeing the "Fire Barry" threads again?

go ahead and keep thinking NIT... i still dont see it. bears are still one of the best midmajors after tonite. rpi will only drop 5 or 6 spots and we will still be in the 20's.
we are fine. i'm not going to stress all week long over this. you can. i'm not. i'm still confident.

Not unless some SIU fan starts it. Kinda like this one.
Most of the MSU fans are happy. They like him. They buy tickets. Who am I to argue?

I was about to firmly disagree with your prediction. Then the commentators on ESPN just mentioned the possibility of the four teams left in the MVC tourney making the dance, to which one replied that they thought it would more likely be 3:confused:
If you're MSU and CU, I imagine you now cheer for UNI and WSU to win the tournament if you buy into this. The MVC has been too good this year to get snubbed and I find it hard to believe there will be less than four.

The game I saw both teams played hard. UNI played pretty well the entire game and shot well in the 2nd half. When McKowen is hitting 3s UNI usually wins (happens only a couple of times per year, though);) (I mean McKowen hitting, not UNI winning)

Remember,
Creighton has developed some name recognition the past few years. This will really help them in that committee room this week!!
The Valley is going to get a minimum 5. And if other conference tournaments go right, maybe 6.

Last night's game was the most frustrating thing I have watched all year....especially the first 15 minutes of the 2nd half offensively. I just don't know how a team can just fall apart like that. I'm sure folks will be back on the Barry-hating bandwagon, but in order for the committee to leave MSU out they would have to set some new records (best RPI rating never to make the tourney, etc).
The Bears are in.
