MVC fan support of non-NCAA tournament games

MVC fans should be congratulated for supporting their teams in 2009 post season tournaments other than the NCAA.

There were 28 NIT Tournament games held at participants’ arenas. The top 5 attended games were:

16,984 Kentucky at Creighton (Second Round)
12,414 St. Mary’s at San Diego State (Quarterfinals)
9,577 Bowling Green at Creighton (First Round)
8,424 Georgetown at Baylor (First Round)
8,327 UNLV at Kentucky (First Round

There were 15 CIT Tournament games held at participants’ arenas. The top 5 attended games were:

8,118 Old Dominion at Bradley (Finals)
6,114 Pacific at Bradley (Semi-finals)
5,007 Oakland at Bradley (Quarterfinals)
4,472 Austin Peay at Bradley (First Round)
3,119 Belmont at Evansville (First Round)

There were 17 CBI Tournament games held at participants’ arenas. The top 5 attended games were:

12,000 Oregon State at UTEP (Game 3, Finals)
12,000 Oregon State at UTEP (Game 2, Finals)
8,812 Stanford at Wichita State (Quarterfinals)
8,029 UTEP at Oregon State (Game 1, Finals)
7,798 Northeastern at UTEP (Quarterfinals)

So, the self-proclaimed best fanbase in the MVC had fewer fans attend a game against Stanford than CU drew for Bowling Green? Yep, there are no bandwagon fans in Wichita.

The CBI just isn't as important to WSU fans as the NIT is for sCUm fans.

Omaha must have been buzzing from the opportunity to win a post season game since they were playing in the NIT.

I would have thought the self-proclaimed best fanbase in the Valley would fully support their team regardless of which tournament they are playing. Maybe the folks in Wichita had their attention turned to KU and the NCAA's. Oh, wait, there aren't any KU fans that also attend WSU games, right?

8,000 were there which was more than I expected for a pud practice session. I don't think not going to a game doesn't mean they weren't supporting them. KU wasn't playing on any night WSU was playing so that cute theory doesn't even have a chance out of the gate.

If you wanna chance each team's history in terms of average attendance, I'd invited you to do so. I'm guessing WSU has the edge. sCUm has picked it up lately with a brand new rented building with plenty of things to entice the normally stay-at-home fans like alcohol. Also, a chance for sCUm to actually win a postseason game probably enticed a few out. I mean afterall it doesn't happen a lot and the NIT is probably the most watched tourney up there. Still even with all of that, I bet WSU has the overall edge.

Go figure.

It's not entirely self proclaimed. Ask your AD about it. Besides, 8,000 of us are louder than 17,000 of you.

1. were the other 2,000 too busy writing out checks to the AD?
2. The fact you know KU wasn't playing any night WSU was playing proves that cute theory.
3. No alcohol at the NIT games

Hey nub. What's up?

Where was all the sCUm support in the stands before coach GodAltmanGod landed in Homerha? I bet the rotting old civic center busted at the seams every night.. right?

The fact that I knew KU wasn't playing means what? That I have half a brain and can read through a local newspaper? How many sCUm fans knew Nebraska was playing UMBC or New Mexico, etc? Oops..

In regards to sCUm fans' addiction to the drink, I wasn't specifically talking about the NIT game you twat; I was making a general statement that is obviously accurate.

Geez, the NIT just keeps getting worse and worse for sCUm fans. Now the NCAA buys the NIT and there's no alcohol.. Oh well. At least you finally won a postseason game for once.

And FWIW, this topic went south thanks to a sCUm fan. And I thought sCUm fans were perfect angels..

Define nub? Haven't posted in 3 years, yep I'm a nub.

Just like a Shucker fan living in the past:)

I had no clue who Nebraska played, hell Nebraska fan probably didn't know who Nebraska played. I sure as heck didn't know or care when they played. Defensive much.

Twat huh? lol The only thing that is obviously accurate is that we pack in 15k+ a game. Its a tired excuse, don't be jealous we can drink at our lil rented stadium and you can't. :)

Oh yeah and how were the other 2000 Shucker fans supporting WSU when they played Stanford?

If you don't know who Nebraska was playing and you live in the state of Nebraska, you obviously don't pay attention to college basketball outside of Creighton and the Valley.

We wouldn't want to drink at your arena.

Don't ever say "lil" again. Retard.

Of course you don't like talking about the past. sCUm has no past.

Defensive? lol. Ok, next time I'll ignore your ignorant question.

Yes you do get 15k a game. Even though 75% of them there are:
a.) bored NU football fans preoccupying themselves in the offseason
b.) plain and simply there for the booz
c.) it's the 'in' thing to do in Homerha

I imagine they were at home watching it, at a sports bar watching it, or were disinterested in it because our fanbase has higher expectations for our program. Even so, the 8,000 against Stanford was the largest crowd at any CBI game outside the final.

How's the P'unk-Walker situation doing?

First of all, calling Creighton sCUm, that is so cool. Your so cool WSUballer. That is just so clever. I wish i was a cool as you. It most of took you all night thinking up that one.

WSUbballer, you spend you entire day on a message board. Why don't you find a hobby, aka "friends".

You say 75% of people who go to our basketball games are NU fans, attending for the beer, or going because its "in". I would love to see this study you made. Link please?

I know your gonna call me a nub, and stuff like that. Thats because you know i am right.

BTW WSUbballer, get a hobby so your not so angry all the time. I sware you have mood swings like a menopausal lady.

Going by sheer numbers, you are correct.

But if you apply and compare %-attended capacity between these two games, you're incorrect.

WSU-Stanford >= 75% capacity. CU - Bowling Green = 59% capacity. Figures are approximate.

And if memory serves me right, WSU had 6,600 in the stands for the Buffalo game, which is in the 62-63% range....still better than 59%.

I am, needless to say, very impressed with the attendance for the UK game though.......easily over 95% capacity.

If sCUm was worthy of a response, then my job is complete.

Gee, I haven't heard that one before. Yes, I have no friends and I'm on here 24 hours a day. Wait, how would you that I'm on here 24 hours a day.... unless you're on here too?

Oh, I promise you nub. It's not a study. It's the cold, hard facts and it burns every sCUm fan who sees them, i.e. you coming out from behind the woodshed ad commenting about it.

Yes, I know you're right nub. Nubby McNubberson.

Speaking of hobbies, you should try a basic grammar class in your spare time. You sure aren't earning any points here.

Mood swings? ?? Ok? Haaahaa? I was I supposed to laugh?

See ya again next November and we can talk of all the sCUm preseason hype - ultimately ending up in second place finishes and NIT berths.
